War of the Roses
While making a sweep of any decent games, War of the roses caught my eye, seeing how I'm currently studying this period of English history I checked out the game.
Quote: War of the Roses is a new IP that transports players back in time to the battle-ravaged, dynastic civil war era of 15th century England where ownership of the throne of England was brutally fought over between supporters of two rival branches of the Royal House of Plantagenet - the house of Lancaster (the reds) and the house of York (the whites).
A team-based multiplayer melee combat experience, War of The Roses sees players and their band of knights going toe-to-toe with their opponents using authentic and visceral weapons of the time period including broad swords, long bows and battle-axes.
Built on a stunning graphics engine which vividly portrays the fighting from an up-close-and-personal third-person perspective, War of the Roses features a rich online multiplayer experience. Players will get the chance to lead their warrior through a rich progression system, gaining upgrades and unlocking new content on their path from filthy peasant to unstoppable armored killing machine.
Features
Large-scale Multiplayer Battles
Battlegrounds training mode recreates famous War of the Roses Battles with historical introductions
Extensive Persistence System
video
The fact that it's a multiplayer only is a little unnerving though, but the concepts are pleasing. Signed myself up for the beta

Mount & Blade with 200 people battle siege in huge castle kinda beats that in terms of epic medieval combat.
Though this one is probably more polished... and M&B2 is far away.
Looks pretty cool, albeit a bit too gory for my taste. That scene where he stabs the guy repeatedly in the face with the estoc just looked like weird fanservice.

I want it to be brutal, but I hope that it'll be balanced, I can already picture my ass getting skewered by a shower of arrows. >.<
And I hope that full-plate armour has an 'impenetrable' effect, and only when it's struck at weak points (eye guards, armpits, throat) is the user damaged (fatally).
Anyhow I'm not getting my hopes up 'till I've played the beta.

War of the roses is much much more in depth as Mount and blade.
Chosing fighting styles the material the weapons are made of even if you want your visor up or down at the cost of less visibility.
It is quite awesome.

Platemail, meet maul. Maul, meet platemail.
I'm not sure how realistic you'd even want it to be, because IRL, encountering a guy in platemail with a standard sword just downright sucks. It was actually the norm to use a thick broadsword and use it as a bludgeoning weapon. The sword wasn't even sharp, but it was still popular because the evenly distributed weight makes it easy to block with.

So war of the roses is like mb warband but with better graphics and more customization?
And the other one ad posted looks nice but i don't like 1st person with sowrds, i just suck with it. In mb i only used 1st person for ranged combat, but i prefer close melee

WotR has no singleplayer at all but is still a very good game. I would describe it as...
Mount and Blade MP + SW Battlefront + A LOT of customization.
Melee combat is like in MB but in general slower but looks and is more realistic.
Armors are MUCH more realistic. They do not just give armor stats but work more like armor would in real life.
There is no healthbar but you get a hunch of how damaged you are by the blood on the screen and you can use bandages to heal your wounds(but you are very vulnerable while doing so).
Killed players lies wounded on the battlefield and can either be executed or ressurected.
Bows and Xbows have unique ways to reload and unrealistically high accuracy for the sake of fun gameplay. If the ranged weapons had less accuracy then ranged combat would be useless and boring.
Classes and spawnpoints are much like in Battlefront.
There are 8 classes, Footman, Crossbowman, Longbowman, Foot Knight and 4 classes that are open for complete customization. Want to play as an armored archer with shield and axe? Go ahead but you are going to reload slower with the heavy equipment. The heaviest and strongest is not always the best. And the customization of each item is not to be underestimated.
Personally so far I have favored playing with Crossbow, hammer+shield and switching between heavy and light armor depending on map and gamemode.
I really recommend this game to anyone who is not discouraged by the lack of singleplayer but having a friend to play with would make it more fun. And you can expect the game to not end as it is. WotR is sure to continue to expand one way or another.

I have read in various places that there is a high dualwielding spam rate and that the game is yet to be balanced right, is this true?

You can not dual wield in WotR but I can understand that the game may be slightly unbalanced but definitly not a problem. Even though some types of classes can be annoying to fight it is always up to yourself to adapt and counter. Cavalry man keeps charging and you can not him in melee? Switch to archer and shoot the horse or hide behind cover. Foot knight keeps side stepping your arrows and rush you? Switch to heavy armor, hammer or run away to an ally before he gets too close.
Money and experiance unlocks new equipment and perks but from beginning to end it is all about skill. A high leveled player will only have the advantage of adaptability and gameplay experiance so it is very fair play.

TB made a very good comparison video between WotR and AoC and came to the same conclusion as I did.

Chivalrys melee combat looked more like hack and slash with runescape graphics but we all know that gameplay and simplicity rather than graphics and complexity often win when it is about having fun and melee combat in WotR can be frustrating sometimes. The melee animations in WotR usually look good but could have better follow through between the animations to look smoother. Those objective gamemodes in Chivalry looked really fun and WotR really need more interesting gamemodes than the usual kill enemies or conquer areas. I also think that the review gave WotRs mounted combat too much credit. The horses are much smoother and easier to control in MB than in WotR. It is also very hard to actually hit an opponenent with your weapon when riding by.

Impressions of a noob:
Pros:
- Archery is very satisfying.
- The sound effects are astonishingly well done
- The music, especially the main menu theme, is quite nice.
- Maps seem well designed and varied.
Cons:
- Strikes in combat have very little feedback, lacks weight. If it wasn't for the damage numbers popping up I would have trouble knowing if I even hit. Seemingly inconsistent flinching mechanic contributes to this as well, making it very hard to know if an attack will actually interrupt the enemy.
- UI is very non-immersive and intrusive, with icons all over the place and combat feedback filling the screen with every strike. Couple it with KILLSTREAK! HEADSHOT! messages and it feels quite like Call of Duty: Medieval Warfare.
- The execute mechanic breaks up the speed of combat and feels unnecessarily violent (4 stabs to the face in 1st person, really?). I don't see the point.
