Quote: But what's the editor in this screen then?
This is the new editor that is under construction and can only read existing maps now. We use WoG editor with GrayFace patch and a small patch that makes it load HotA.lod. And hex editor for coves as main players' towns, new heroes, bonuses in campaings. Heroes and towns availabilities are hardcoded in dll.

In order to create a new HotA map editor I assume you need to reverse engineer the .h3m file format as well which as far as I know contains information about heroes, their classes, towns and such? I stumbled upon an incomplete document in both English and Russian the other day which contains strings for the .h3m format. I have it bookmarked on my PC and I can link it if someone is interested?
I myself have no use of that document since coding is not in my field of expertise (I only know basic C++) but I thought that if I'm right about the file format maybe HotA crew or someone else would have use of it in their task to create an advanced editor?

We have a description of h3m format but any additional info can be helpful, thank you.

Then I suppose none of this will be of any additional help to you but let's hope so. Glad to help in that case.
An incomplete English description of the .h3m format http://corexii.com/h3m_description.english.txt
.bt files and .txt files of h3c and h3m templates http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/heroes-rebirth/heroes-rebirth/H3C%20and%20H3M%20formats%20description/h3c_and_h3m_formats.rar?r=http%3A%2F%2Fsourceforge.net%2Fprojects%2Fheroes-rebirth%2Ffiles%2Flatest%2Fdownload&ts=1345578958&use_mirror=freefr
Information about additional file formats http://wiki.enleth.com/homm:file-formats (Google labels this site as dangerous for whatever reason. It shouldn't be a problem though.)
I hope this can be of any help.
