Poll Question: Life on Mars?
Post your prediction as well as answering the poll. I'm pretty sure this will be resolved within the next 5 to 10 years.
I'm predicting choice 3 "There's been life on Mars since early times".

Since there's been water there for a long time, chances are there's been life as well.
What would be interesting is if we would ship some organisms that live in the deep arctic, and see how they survive on Mars.

My guess is there was - maybe even humanlike, intelligent - life there once, but a catastrophe (giant asteroid/WMD/aliens, etc) wiped them out, and the planet didn't recover from it...
Yet...

Thank you so much for starting this discussion, FoG!
________
So, life on Mars, eh?
People have been wondering if there is life on Mars. Many though that there are the little green people, some have thought of beings far different of humans - beings of vile and unfriendly nature..
Many movies have been made on that topic, many stories of UFOs crashing on Earth have been told, many alien sightings have been reported.
Are those true, or not, we still aren't sure...
AFAIK, one of theories is that the life on Earth came from Mars when an asteroid hit the Red Planet, spreading it's chunks with primitive life forms and sending them towards the Blue Planet (the Earth, duh!).
Mars could have supported the more advanced life forms, but there was a natural disaster (another asteroid, but much bigger, I think) causing the climate change, resulting in deaths of all species.
There is ice on Mars and it is belived that in the deeper layers of the planet, a lot closer to the hot, liquid core, there still is liquid water and, possibly, life.
That, however is not certain.
There have been and are ideas of colonising Mars, thus returning the life if there was one in the first place, but the current thechnology still can't allow us to send humans permamently.
There is the Mars' "egg-shaped" orbiting around Sun, which doesn't allow us to go to Mars whenever we want.
We can't forget the solar winds, too - the radioactivity will kill us.
Mars doesn't have an ozone layer and the UV rays can cause skin cancer.
The worst thing is that we can't tell our people on Mars that they should take cover on time because the signal from Earth travels 14 minutes to the Red Planet and the death travels a bit faster.
The force gravity on Earth and Mars is different and a long term staying on the latter can cause some serious problems in our body.
And last, but not least, is the lack of breathable air.
There is a little plan on how we can fix that and the plan is: Heat up the planet.
We build factories on Mars, start producing CO2, warm up the planet with the greenhouse effect, grow plants, and prevent them from dying.
The plants will eventually create an atmosphere with breathable air.
Oxygen mixed with Hydrogen will produce water, water will make clouds, clouds will create storms, storms will create ozone and ozone will protect us from UV rays.
Plants will grow and the animals will have food.
The conditions on Mars will change them, resulting in new species. HECK, new races!
Eventually, the life on Mars will flourish again and it'll be all because of the Humans.

Unless NASA cleaned Curiosity really well, there is life on Mars. Yes, rovers on Mars have brought several bacterias on them (accidently), so there IS life on Mars. However, those bacterias cannot reproduce, so we haven't spoiled Mars "flora and fauna" too much. Concernig life on Mars which does not originate from Earth, I belive it could have existed.

I know, Ok. I just think it's somehow strange to edit.
EDIT: I've almost clicked Post reply again after seeing NoobX's post.
@NoobX: Yes, of course it's interesting. You can imagine how aliens would have looked like and such stuff. (I often think how would Mars look if we colonize it. Or any other planet. If there was some intelligent life, how would we react? Would our greed prevail and tur aliens in slaves? Or opposite? We all like mysteries, and other, unexplored places are perfect for provoking our imagination.)

I dont understand why is the option "There is life on Mars" excluded from the poll answers-maybe:
a)author of the poll expresses his strong disbelief.
b)try to narrow the discussion(maybe other thread is out there)
c)author cant imagine form of life not immerging from protein?

I think the third option means "there is life on Mars."
Anyway, I strongly doubt there is any life on Mars; there may have been some before, considering that there is ice on the planet, but not anymore. NoobX, where did you get the idea that life on Earth came from Mars? I've never heard that idea before.

Mars had been a life of 100 million years, but there's too cold, so the life went out. But as soon as we get the exact information.

Honestly I am such an idiot. I clicked on the wrong one. That's what I get for voting in HC before fully waking up.
However, I've always believed that was some form of basic life on Mars, as there probably is on other plants/moons too. I mean Mars still has the tiniest of atmospheres, plus they believe water once ran freely over Mars, so there is bound to be some trace of bacteria's etc.

I think we have enough disasters here on Earth,so we readers dont need to read about other disasters-this dont help us the tiniest bit!

I guess author is fascinated with the reasons we humans die and not with how protection helps us.
Quote: We build factories on Mars, start producing CO2
99% percent of Mars atmosphere is CO2.
Why we need to produce more?
What would the factories do at all?

I support the dream of NoobX for life on Mars we bring!

The bacterium is the basic form of all, example space bacterial. I think NASA is looking organism and plants. I can not say the tardigrade. Normal yes Mars will come back to life in the future, because the Sun will grow in size bigger. Another needs a lot of water, it could create an atmosphere. But the cold.
