The Simplified Guide for the Newbies
The idea of this thread is to point out what to do when you join the community. This is a guide, not an Introduction to the HC thread. Follow these simple footsteps to become a well known and respected member!!
1. Join the community
This is one of the easiest things. Just click on this link: Register and you can become a member in a matter of seconds.
*note that the avatar selection is huge, so it might take you a little longer*
2. Start posting
It is simple! Find a forum you're interested in and find a thread that draws your attention. Be sure to read through it so that you don't ask the same question again, or repeat what is already said. Try to be original and polite, for your first posts can decide how will the members look at you in the future.
3. Get to know people
This place is huge, so it is logical that it has a lot of members. Some of them are nice and polite, most of them are here only for Heroes discussion and then there are the bad members who don't like anything about this community, but they still join it. Such members start to SPAM ((**post nonsense, junk, insults, etc.**)) and flame the HC. You shouldn't become one of them, for the punishments are severe.
If you are planning on staying here, you might get some friends along the way and if you do, you're in the game.
4. Quality?
Yes, quality. This forum is specific for it's quality points aka QPs. I'm assuming that you've already read the FAQ and that you know what they do. If not, click here.
You earn the QPs by posting very helpful/funny/witty/well thought post. I recommend that you read them.
5. Quantity?
Quantity aka Post Count. It is represented by the yellow stars under your username. The more posts you have, the more of the yellow stars you will gain. They are easy to get in the beginning, but as you gain them the required number of posts for a new one will increase.
There is a bug that makes the yellow stars invisible, but it doesn't occur that much. One of the examples is the member wog_edn.
The yellow stars aren't anything more than a bunch of of pixels and they don't do anything important, so you shouldn't start hoarding them. 
6. Don't wander off the path of good...
... or you'll get yourself a penality. A penality can be given by the admin or a moderator. They can also give you the opposite - a QP and you'll be very happy if you get one. Again, I'm assuming that you've already read the FAQ, so I don't have to explain what they mean.
7. Get a custom avatar!!
The picture under your username is called an avatar. You can check the avatar gallery to see if you can find a suitable one, or you can go to the Turban Tribunal ((**the community-related subforum**)) and request a custom avatar in the New Avatars Recap thread.
You can only request an avatar if you have two yellow stars or above that.
8. Have fun 
That's right, have fun!
Do you feel tired after a long Heroes-related discussion? If you do, then join the Discussion Boards. Here you can talk about your life, politics, religion, play games and even SPAM ((**you can SPAM only in the Volcanic Wastelands and you should be careful not to insult someone or post the PG18+ material**))!!
Watch out not to wander into the Other Side of the Monitor with a bag full of jokes and SPAM, because "it's only for serious discussion".
9. Finish reading this guide...
... and experience the Heroes Community!!

Well really anyone who is currently on can help you. Give links and such to sub-forums or specific threads if you have any burning questions, that sort of thing. Also since we are an international community, if something about the language or terms used confuses you there will most likely be someone from your country that can help translate anything you don't understand. Feel free to send people messages over Heroes Community (Messenger systems are fun!) and we will do our best to answer any question you have.
You can ask for a custom Avatar here. Feel free to just skip to the most current page, since who reserved which avatar isn't so important or interesting.
Please note: The non game sub-forums have their own set of rules (some written, some not). Please read the FAQ and conduct threads in each sub-forum if you are going to participate in discussion there.

I'm afraid that there is a lack of newbies. Most of the members I see for the first time are either bots or members from '09 with 1-6 posts.
Kids don't realize that HoMM is one of the best TBS's of all time.

Ghost is a finnish Heroes 3 fan who is using google (or other) translator to post here. And finnish is the most complex language I heard, hence the alien result. He also posts a lot in mapforheroes as he likes the game. Same style.

oh i see that there is a lack of newbies so as a newbie i decided to drop by, through i don't really see a lack(or a bit maybe?) of newbies, most people i see around hold the infamous 'tavern dweller' flag.
as for 'bad mannered tavern dwellers' they are either bots or spammers.
hey mr.crag hack, we got some bad mannered barbarians over there, go take care of them -------->
