Quote: I was going to list all the name changes according to the specialties but then i noticed they don't always change into the same thing. It's not random too, lets say you give your dragons "Attack all around" specialty. The dragons can be now called Ferocious, Circular or Whirlwind Dragons.
I suggest to change the script so that each specialty has a single name. This way we can easily recognize them on the battlefield. Besides some of the names are really stupid like +18 Damage= Sharp and Pointy Dragon. What are they pencils!
Ah yes, Sharp and Pointy Dragons...my favorite kind! The powerful wizard who lives there has a sense of humor, don't ya know?
I gave them multiple names for flavor and variety, but it's true, a single name would be more recognizable and better from a game strategy point of view (easier to plan logically if you know what's what and don't have to memorize three times as many names).
However, possibly the bigger problem is that two changes only show the last name, so there's often no way to identify exactly what abilities a creature has if its been enhanced twice. If I recall correctly, the amount of space available to list special abilities is extremely limited (more than it looks) and I'm pretty sure name length is fairly limited too, so some other mechanism would need to be developed. Either that or limit each creature to a single enhancement type.

Names are fine, with the unlimited number of upgrades possible it was obvious that names were going to be funny. I just miss the "Horny ID" from upgrade growth. Obviously if monsters suddenly multiply it means they are horny, no? Horny and hung pitlords sounds fine.

Unlimited upgrades has nothing to do with it, as fnord pointed it out, the names dont stack, so you never see something like ferocious watery savage frenzied dragons. I' m all for sense of humour but a joke is funny only once yet you play with sharp and pointy dragons all the time. Anyway the few funny names isnt a big deal, one mame to every speciality would be practical, thats all.

Well yes then how you do if you take one ability, name changes, then you take a second one, then a third one? Which ability should show in name? The last one obviously, but then description is incorrect, it should include the fact that more than one ability was bought. Hard to manage. Names never bothered me, abilities working is all that matters to me. Just a pity AI can't manage it, towers are a waste of space for him.

i agree with you on that one but that's another issue, and as far as i can guess its harder to solve in terms of scripting. The one i was talking about would be easy to solve, just subtracting the extra names.

*laugh* Indeed! Well, you're welcome to edit the ERT file to add some new favorites!

Hmm...unless you're using some mod that removes it, the AI should be using the Emerald Towers.
Granted, they don't get to make as smart choices as a human player but they do get a free random upgrade for the hero's most powerful stack.
Or has this stopped working for some reason?

I don't recall the limit on name length but I think even if really long names were possible, they'd probably wouldn't fit in the window or something.
But that would be funny to see ferocious watery savage frenzied dragons!
Anyway, it's easy to fix it so they all have the same name even without changing the actual script code...just edit the ERT file so that all three descriptive words for one ability are the same.

There is no problem with towers, they work for AI but of course it does not any good, as well as altair of transformation. AI should have priority on no retal, attack around and damage, because they only decide the battle. And with altair popping here and there, all AI armies get changed to god knows what, and then his faction special bonuses are gone.

I dont have homm3 with me right now, i'm not home. I may do that when i get home but if i remember correctly no erm file is named emerald tower, so which is it? And will it cause any problems if i play multiplayer and my copy is the only one like that?
Thanks for all the wonderful scripts btw, they rock.

Well, that's true. But at least they don't have to pay for it!
But I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for someone to edit and set it to those abilities for the AI to receive first. The Altar is another matter, but there's a fairly good chance that whatever creature type is upgraded for the AI will be one their town(s) produce (since it's their strongest stack), so they're likely to still get a benefit from it later.

In 3.58f it's script44.erm and script44.ert.
I don't remember for sure what happens in multiplayer but I think it's only the host's scripts that are used. So in that case, it won't cause any problems but you would have to be the host to see the changes.
And you're very welcome for the scripts! I don't remember how to do ERM scripting now, but I'm glad that I could leave some fun stuff for people to enjoy (aside from a few small problems here and there).

i was singling out the names of the specialties in the emerald tower script today as i mentioned above. then i noticed there are some specialties in the script that are not in the game. i checked the tower using Original Scripts mod and still, some of the scripted stuff is not in the original emerald tower too. Any idea what these are:

All of them are in. They will not show in the list if the creature you want to modify already has that ability, ie titans will not be offered immune mind and no close combat penalty because they already have them.
