2012 Legatum prosperity index

What do you think? I'm usually skeptical towards such rankings. I don't know what criteria are used there .
For instance, Poorland should be higher in personal freedom - there's arguably much more freedom here than in France, which is strangled by ACTA-like laws. Yet, France, and many countries similar to it is rated higher. Heck, I don't have to pay if I wish to pick mushrooms in a forest here, too.
On the economy however, I guess it's more or less accurate. Of course, economy doesn't seem to be adequate to a common person's wealth. An average Chinese obviously doesn't have as much cash compared to average American, despite China being rated higher
What I find missing (and crucial) for that kind of ranking is the purchasing value of a single hour's work. That would obviously make US very high again, and Poorland would fall to 100th position or so.

Last time I heard, you can't just go and pick them freeely from a nearby forest because there are no forests that aren't private in France

I don't have to pay the local forest owner to take a stroll there, for instance

Social Capital is basically GPD+ some correction for actual wealth distribution.
But some of the measurements has some serious issues. For instance, I don't get how education is setup. None of the measures are obvious, for instance: Norway should in no list rank better than Finland. At the least from a result standpoint. From a "getting a shot at education standpoint", Norway don't have entrance exams for their universities, Finland does.
As for exaplinations? There is something starting from the 42nd-50th page of the PDF, but its extremely vague. From what I can get out of it, its a neo liberal agenda with acceptance of free flow of immigration between states. But with a lot more complications, so such a label would be wrong. It doesn't help that they got a lot of data based on legacy sources, or that they on several points chose to ignore the "accessability" critieria most rankings have, yet prioritize it on other points.

Quote: Yep but you pay 100% of your income for renting 10% of space I have for half price.
Think of it! When you get jobless and homeless, in Poorland, you can at least pick up the free shrooms. In France, you die
+1% freedom!

You can't die in France, homeless can still perceive something like the double of your monthly Poorland income for free. Sometimes they die from mushrooms, true, but is because meat ignorance.

If you are born in this world and the chance being born somewhere in the planet was equal, then there would be a 8 out of 10 chance that you will be born in a country which does not offer anything for you to live. No food, no water,no money.
However, people in poorer coutries give birth to more people but thats because people are material there.
The more of them there are, the more "Work" they could do.
That said, more children == more money for the parents at the expense of the life of those children.
Of course, you would be stuck in such a country and probably die trying to make up for the necessities of life, yet at the top of each country are parasites that suck on the little wealth the population has.
The odds are stacked against you if you would live in such a country. If you were to emmigrate, if you could, you would have to hear and bear the bickering of the natives of that country complaining how your sight or skin or face makes their fairyland dirty and again this is if you are lucky.
Of course, if you are luckier, you get born to live in fairyland land.
The lush dream of developed countries will fall when there will be a shortage or a crisis.
Once that bubble explodes, we will have war. Actually, we have war everyday. But there will be a time when more than 2 countries and 27 proxies participate in a war.
I wonder how the natives of fairyland countries would feel when suddenly bread costs around 100 dollars per 0.5. Kg and they cant afford anything to eat.
Actually, I would gladly welcome such a situation. Thats because for a change, every piece of human tissue would be equal.
Once I read a thing that said "Humans are social creatures".
I was very angry at this because the word "Social" is a definitive as as describing the shape of a cloud
I think that we are a parasitic organism. We use our intelligence to take advantage of everything but of course, people dont see it that way. Much like mites suck blood and have special organs to do that, we have special tools to suck milk, kill millions of fish, deforest entire regions, kill millions of humans, vivisect live humans ans so on...
That said, that index is BS. Everything you see there should be multiplied by a factor of -100 and that would correspond to 1/1000000
of the reality we are living in.

This sounds like the typical bickering of someone who never tried to find any solutions to his miserable life due to x or y born location. What has this with the luck of being born there or here? Learn something valuable and travel, offer your skills to the one who gives you the best income and the right to dignity.

It's a mixed kind of thing. For instance, I'd really like to leave Poorland, but at the same time I don't want to wash dishes in UK or something. And without several years of experience in the branch I'm working in (railroad science), I'm sure I'd just wash dishes.
So, unconditionally I could indeed leave, but it wouldn't give me a damn at the moment I'm stuck here for several years at least.

You don't need to be Einstein to be considered outside. Only with your english level you would be very appreciated in countries as France, where nobody can speak or write correctly, neither french or english. And of course, my remark was toward Seraphim who can't hold his hate for "rich" countries.

And this sounds like someone who takes a post completely out of context.

Its a goddamned index that tries to mark or graph countries.
Obviously, a subject like "Poor vs Rich" is unavoidable in a thread like this when the THREAD is about an index of "Prosperity" among countries.

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe you should do the same things before the first comma on your sentence.
Quote: You don't need to be Einstein to be considered outside.
You should attempt an immigration attempt on Australia with a fake passport from chechenya. Then, if you manage to do that, you should offer your skills to them. I am sure people will be willing to wait in lines to give you work.
Sarcasm aside, the point is that you are wrong. One is supposed to be highly skilled in order to be considered in "Developed" countries. Perhaps not einstein, but a Ph.D would suffice.

That is not true. No sane individual would consider somebody else who probably has less experience, has no permanent visa (Visa troubles) and could be "Potentially" dangerous.

Well, I leaved my poor country at the age of 12, and alone. Then I studied in 4 different countries until I found one which suited me (now I will certainly move again). So believe me, I know what I am talking about. People who complain about their unlucky birth location, I eat them at breakfast.

How awesome, How did traveling at 12 give you so much authority and insight to basically nullify someones message?

The perhaps you should take a joruney to Balkans and try to survive there with 500 dollars only. And before you say, no illegal work.

Now, if I was to take this literally, I would certainly be dismayed,
Since this is a metaphor, I wonder if you ate me for breakfast?
Let me remind you on one thing, my initial post was not aimed at you.

Seraphim, I am coming from Balkans, so I know perfectly how is going there, having family to feed and such.
About english in France: I am not improvising, I had korean students for several years and there is no convention about scholarship with Korea. I know for sure they had their only income from english lessons and working as english translator with business companies. And their english level was below DF's one, not speaking about terrible sushi accent. English lessons are about 20 euros here.
