It still hasn't broken 1 out of 5 stars on Amazon. EA is getting chain raped.

Quote: No thanks.
Seriously, though - aside from the DRM issue, which is reason enough for me to avoid the game - why does every game these days try to force me to interact with other people online? I know that's a draw for some people, but not for me. At least give me the option. But this Sim City seems like it is designed around the idea that it takes a village to... well, raise a village. The allure of Sim City has always been to create a sprawling metropolis that had everything in it you can imagine. Now I gotta rely on some stranger to help me make a city that can actually function?
Pbbbbt... I'd rather play solitaire than this game.
WTF? They completely killed the entire fun part of the game?
I don't want to create a friggin' small town that only does one thing. I want to create that HUGE metropolis with those gigantic space-thingies that rooms 50.000 citizens each! I want to go big, and then bigger than big!
That totally sucks. Online interaction and interdependancy is fine as an option. But I don't want that as the only option. Major major MAJOR disappointment. I had so looked forward to this game, because from the previews, I actually got the impression that this was for once a sequel that got it right and stayed true to the predecessors, but I guess one should have read the writing on the wall with all their talk about creating a casino city, but I naïvely believed that was just some sort of specific scenario.

That's the cancer of modern gaming, I'm afraid
oh well. Back to lovely single player games.
THe only MMO I tolerate is World of Tanks. And that's because the cooperation with idiots there can be reduced to bare minimum.

SimCity nightmares increase
luuulz. So apparently the algorithms of the game are having severe issues as well.
Poor Sim City. Do you know what bothers me more than the DRM and this newly revealed pathfinding nightmare? EAs goal to "make it more appealing to common people". Ugh. Low expectation mother****ers. **** you EA.
Why do they believe that a classic, intensive Sim City wouldn't be appealing to people? Especially for a brand that carries with it the love of so many city-builder nerds? When I was like 10-years-old and playing Sim City, half the time my city would ****ing burn to ground, and you know what? I thought it was awesome.

Diablo 3 has hacked within a week of release and Simcity has been too. As always DRM winds up only hurting honest consumers who will pay for their game.

omg EA is so stupid. "You can watch the individual daily activities of Bob Smith, it's soooooo personalized".
What the ****? I don't care about Bob Smith. Bob Smith can go **** himself, murder his children, and jump off a cliff for all I care. I want to build a city. How hard is it?
I can just picture how all of this ended up happening within the corporate culture too. I've seen it before. Probably 2 or 3 misplaced project managers is all it took for these stupid, senile decisions to be made. They probably gave some bull**** speech about revolutionizing the game and half of the smarter, common sense underlings just sat there helplessly while these vapid, unteachable, pseudo-cutting edge morons destroyed the game.

Yeah, probably some chief head designer of project who had some "great" ideas of how to revolutionize the series and bring it out to a whole new audience. Which he might have succeeded at, but he certainly also alienated the entire old fanbase from the game.

Developer commentary and blog posts made no secret of the fact that citizens are going to behave like that. It's press releases that were misleading.
Bonus: in the first video I linked, cars change as they park at homes. At 00:11, you can even see a motorcycle change into a car! Apparently they don't keep track of what the vehicle was.
One of editors of Rock, Paper, Shotgun is really mad at SimCity, EA and Maxis. I think it's because he cares for the series. They've posted a number of critical updates about the game already. You can click here for updates with SimCity tag:

Looks like SimCity is the straw that broke the camel's back. EA's CEO just got the boot. We can hope Evil Arts changes its ways under new leadership.
Clicky
Quote:
Electronic Arts (EA) CEO John Ricitello will be stepping down at the end of the month, the company announced today.
“We thank John for his contributions to EA since he was appointed CEO in 2007, especially the passion, dedication and energy he brought to the Company every single day,” said Larry Probst, who will be serving as Executive Chairman. “John has worked hard to lead the Company through challenging transitions in our industry, and was instrumental in driving our very significant growth in digital revenues. We appreciate John’s leadership and the many important strategic initiatives he has driven for the Company. We have mutually agreed that this is the right time for a leadership transition.”
EA has been having some rough times recently. Despite publishing huge franchises like FIFA, Madden and Battlefield, the company has developed a spotty reputation amongst video gamers, even earning the Consumerist’s “most evil company in America” title. Business practices like pay-to-win games, microtransactions and elaborate digital rights management have struck a chord with many gamers, and it isn’t a good one.
In addition, last year’s Star Wars: The Old Republic was one of the most ambitious games ever made, but failed to make an impact in the competitive MMO market.
Most recently, EA’s SimCity launched to crippling server problems that rendered the game unplayable for nearly a week. A leadership transition could help the company change direction, but the brand has its work cut out for it if it wants to rehabilitate its public image.
