SEGA/Creative Assembly get Games Workshop license

From Destructoid:

"SEGA has inked a deal with Games Workshop in order to start bringing Warhammer games into production. Creative Assembly, the studio responsible for Total War, will be working on the fantasy tabletop IP.

THQ still has the rights to Warhammer 40,000, at least while it remains in business, so SEGA won't be bringing us any Space Marines or Necrons just yet. Expect all sorts of Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven though.

No games have been announced, with SEGA stating there won't be any projects until, "Beyond 2013."

Pretty sweet deal. Warhammer is a strong property, and the Total War guys do good work, by all accounts. Should be some good stuff heading into the next generation of consoles."

================================================

Here's hoping we can get a great new Warhammer game.  It should be interesting to see if we can get a Warhammer Total War game.  It seems like a very smart move given the setting.

Couldn't agree more. With Omega that is.
I don't mind THQ's versions of WH40K. I thought the original Dawn of War was very enjoyable, as was Space Marine. DoW2 wasn't as much of a hit for me, but then I never quite got the hang of how it works. It very much lacks tutorial.

I've enjoyed all of THQ's Dawn of War games.  I have put hundreds of hours into both Dawn of War series.  Space Marine was OK but lacked replayability.  I've put about 7 hours into that and have not had much desire to go back.

I don't have a problem with the 40k games, they have been great.

I do have a problem with their (cripple of a) publisher though.

The last and only game I ever liked from THQ was the original Dawn of War and its expeansion pack Dark Crusade.

Dawn of war 2 was so horrible, it made me mad when I played it. They needed an expansion pack to handle all the bugs and glitches of the first one.
The campaign was boring, the multiplayer repetitive, no skirmish.
And then they had the guts to call that game an RTS... It was a bad RTT with eye candy.

I cant comment on COH because I hate WW2 games,I never played it.

DoW2 was never called an RTS.  It was always a RTT.

I went into their forums when it was released, I extensively read reviews and all the garbage, before I tried it.
It was marketed and labeled as an RTS game and NOT as an RTT.

Looks like I was wrong.

Despite what the genre would be, I found DOW2 to a fantastic game.

What exactly did you like in that game? The graphics were ok but thats about it really.

No base building,"Space marines takung cover behind some wood planks?" and no morale system as in the old game. You know, they could have implemented moral and supression...

Ah, never mind...

Simple.

Graphics.
Gameplay.
Music & Sound.
Replayability.
The Last Stand.

Looking at my hours, I put 98 into DoW2, 25 into Chaos Rising, and 70 in Retribution.

Since I did not have the originals on Steam, I can't tell you how many hours of my life I've wasted on those.

If they made it a total war game, it would be nice if they threw in the lesser used human nations as factions (Tilia, Araby, etc)

I think if they were going to do non-Empire/Bretonian human factions, they would probably clump them together as the Dogs of War, as they should be.

For a proper war game, the armies I'd want at a minimum would be:

The Empire
Orcs & Goblins
High Elves
Dwarfs
Skaven
Warriors of Chaos

I'd love to see the rest but to be realistic, I don't see them being added until an expansion hits.

That seems about right.
Though if that is the case, I do hope they won't try to amalgamate the Orcs, Skaven & WoC into some far-fetched impromtu alliance to oppose the usual Dwarf-Empire-High Elf triad.
Though I'd love to see the Lizardmen.
