Quote: Guys, the only one to blame is the killer. Papers do what they have to, report news. As gruesome as the photo is, it focuses attention on a real public health problem. Most subway platforms have a hollow space underneath. This victim could possibly have saved himself by crawling under the platform or run the opposite side. Papers report he was plain drunk too, which explains he just stayed there like dumb.
Certainly the only one to blame for the death is the murderer but do you honestly believe the photographer and publisher had public health in mind? The photographer could not save him but totally did a douche paparazzi move and tried to profit from the murdered mans misfortune. You can see it from how the picture was taken that the photographer wanted a good picture and not to just record what happened or flashing the train driver.
A more proper action would have been to flail his arms or run towards the doomed man even if it was impossible to save them man. And clearly the photographer did not panic or was a victim of the bystander effect.
Something I have been thinking about though. If he was drunk, falling on the tracks and then clinging onto the edge should have taken some time. Yet not a single person was near him when the picture was taken. The average person who saw a drunk man fall down on the tracks would naturally worry and walk over there even if there was no train incoming. Not run like the wind but at least get over there to check the situation out.

it's funny how the photoguy takes all the heat, while there were people closer to the man and nobody helped him either.

Well yeah they were just apathetic, too cool to save a guy's life, the reason why the photographer gets the heat is because instead of helping the guy, his thought was on making a quick buck.

I would've taken a close up shot of the guy, I mean any idiot can make a distinction between the three main scenarios.
1. Stand and watch like the rest, nobody else is helping him, why should I?
2. I'm going to save that guy, no matter what.
3. Ima make a quick buck, the guy's dead anyway, there's no reason why I should feel guilty, besides, this sexy picture is going to make him famous!
Just an FYI, I accidentaly swallowed some washing up liquid (don't ask) I shoved my fist down my throat to throw up, didn't work. If anything happens, I totally did not commit suicide.

At least I would not make a photo of him.

Noted.
You take a photo of yourself before dying, ok? If there are no pics, it did not happen.
PS. I never knew you liked washing up gel.

And a second death by shoving occurs in the span of a month in New York subways. I guess we'll have to ban subways to stop the senseless violence.
Clicky
Quote:
Police searched for a woman who killed a man by pushing him in front of a subway train and released surveillance video Friday of her running away from the station.
Commuters, meanwhile, absorbed the news of the second fatal subway shove in the city this month.
....
The suspect in Thursday night's killing had been following the man closely on a Queens platform and mumbling to herself, witnesses told police. She got up from a nearby bench and shoved the man, who was standing with his back to her, as the train pulled into the platform. He was pinned under the train as it pulled to a stop, police said.

I do not think his post was particulary bad. It was just a small mockery of people who want to ban anything remotely capable of hurting people. The joke might have been tasteless from a certain perspective but still only a minor joke and we should be able to joke about bad stuff once in a while as long as it is not directly incensitive to somebody.

Quote: I point out flawed logic
You really think your oversimplification is pointing out flawed logic, don't you. Although it has been shown to you what a non-sense that is with examples in two other threads by many people, you still spontaneously ignore anything that falsifies you and repeat the same argument again(which I'm sure you happen to believe is very very smart and flawless).
Guns cause the death rate to significantly rise, that is proven by statistics. And unless you are living in the wild in a cabin and unlike knives or subways, that's practically all they do. Giving an assault rifle to a regular home owner is not a practical solution to anything, if you're into shooting as sports use a marble gun (i'm not sure if this is the right english term btw, the guns that shoot little marbles) and be done with it.

Maybe they could build some kind of fence or wall in subway stations that makes it impossible to 'fall' down on the the tracks while not making use of the train less effiecent.

Unless this starts happening ten times a day, there's no way they'd spend all that money to build fences just because two people died.

Very true... Maybe if USA gave up on one or two war ships they could build those fences.
Good for Paris.
