Price of Loyalty: Wizard's Isle
I'm having some serious trouble with scenario two in Price of Loyalty: Wizard's Isle.
Hoping someone on here can help.
I know the first big goal is getting the hero out of the jail behind the aqua barrier gate, but to get to the aqua tent I always run into powerful yellow wizard heroes. The yellow armies on this scenario are the biggest day one armies I've seen in P.O.L. outside of the final two Price of Loyalty campaign scenarios.
I'm so confused because I can't seem to find a way to survive long enough to sneak in either direction (northeast toward the aqua tent or southeast toward the jail itself) without being utterly destroyed, but if I stay home to build up an army, I'll be invaded by the end of week 2 by yellow armies three or four times my size.
Last play through, after being so completely frustrated by trying to get to the aqua tent and survive, I stayed home three weeks only to be met by a yellow hero with the equivalent of seven weeks worth of troops (40 steel golems, etc.)
Can anyone lend me a hand with a strategy that works? I feel like I've tried everything, including spending all my money on suicide wizards to break down armies with spells. Nothing seems to work.
Thanks in advance!

(snip)
I remember winning by attacking as soon as possible. I'll see if I still have a savegame. I went after the yellow player (desert necromancer) first. It involved a bit of luck teleporting to the right portals. And don't forget you don't have to walk back and forth to trigger a portal - just press space when you're on it !
If you want to be cheesy, you can block liths by leaving heroes on them. This smells of an exploit to me so I didn't use it.

You only block your own heroes (or allies) that way, if an enemy runs into the portal while you're on the other end, he automatically attacks you, so there's no exploit.

That's how it works in Heroes 3 I'm pretty sure, but old strategy guides for Heroes 2 says it blocks. I haven't actually tried it. Maybe it was patched ?

Yes, I'm talking about Heroes 3, no idea about 2, I only played it once or twice.

So far I haven't had any luck going after the desert yellow first - if you take the lith to the desert on day one, there are already two medium sized yellow heroes roaming about that area. Worse, the yellow wizards always know when you've left your castle, and they head straight for it when I head east.
As far as blocking the lith, in H2, I don't believe you are automatically attacked, but in this particular scenario the enemy has such a large troop advantage, they choose to attack me at the other side of liths rather than retreat.
Judging by the shoddiness of the only strategy guide online relating to this campaign, this was always a hard one - I never got the expansion back in '97 because I was still playing the individual H2 scenarios when H3 came out! Now I'm paying for it =)
Today I'm going to mess around with decoy heroes and see if I can sucker the desert yellows away long enough to split up their garrisons...that's really the only way I can see of winning this map right now - moving my entire base of operations into the desert, abandoning the western section of the map until I have more troops/time...
