Need some advice on hero movement
Not on logistics or pathfinding but on general hero placement when moving.
I think what I am interest most in is how to make the best out of diagonal movement.
1 question that pops to mind. In the "diagram" below where shoud I position my hero? If I want to go from Curent -> pick Resource -> go to Future position? Do I get grab the resource directly? Do I position myself on 2 and grab from there?
R
123
F C

It depends largely on what terrain the resource and 1,2,3 are. Search "Library table of contents" topics, there have been quite a few discussions on this. But basicly, if I remember correctly, the only thing that matters is the terrain type you are moving from? Or was it the one, you are moving to ? Anyhow, if the terrain is same everywhere on your diagram, the diagonal move costs something like 1.41 times more than non-diagonal move, so just add together the movement points and you have the answer.

If it means.. I recommend that you use the rent a hero and give a faster creature. When they are an artifact to be negligible. So play the more important role. Remember that the enemy uses to view air and earth. Therefore, you can change the artifact at the WOG.

Lol'ed at replace artifact . Such a clever trick. But I do not play Wog .

There is something I am missing because I've watched some vods and they all move "unexpected" when they pick resources. They seem to dislike diagonals at all costs, and position themselves as to make an action from a straight line.

If you pick up resources, you just lose movement. So there's no point losing more by picking them up diagonally.

Sometimes I forgot to pick up on this from the raid between the resource. I noticed that the amount of shift is worn very little, but the 'gratis move' does not exist.

Optimal path for picking resources depends on where is your hero, what is his destination, where are resources and also what terrain you are moving on.
In the following situation:
R
123
F C
if non penalty terrain the best way to pick resources is by moving your hero to each resources and pick them perpendicular. Thats becouse your hero is 1 row below resources and you go to F point.
But for example in other situation, like:
R
123
F C
the best way to pick resources is go below resource 3, take it perpendicular, go 1 tile left and take resource nr 2 also perpendicular, then take resource nr 1 diagonal, and make diagonal move to F. This method is 17 movement points better than if you were picking all resources perpendicular. The whole movement takes 926 points so 17 points is not many, but at the end you may get extra 1 tile to go this way.
I always pick resources diagonal in the following situation:
R
F 1
C

K I think I've got it. in your case for resource 1 you prefer 2 diagonals to 3 straight. (141*2 < 100*3) Makes sense. I would so much like to see a video where someone makes a demonstration with some comments .
