Favourite Element!
Ladies and gentelmen,
To occupy ourselves whilst we wait for some news/expansion,
I would likt yo ask you a question:
What is you favourite school of magic and a fqvourite elemental? And, why?
I will start!
Favourite schools are Light - love Celestial Armor and Heal, and Earth - for Poison Cloud and novelty Eartquake.
My favourite elemental is Light, love the way it looks and its blinding/sunburst abilities!
Your turn!

Dark and fire. Mass curses, dark elementals, fireballs and inner fire, what else is there to say Special mention, inferno. Most fun spell in H6 hands down ^^

I usually play with Yume (Sanctuary Magic Hero, Tears ("Serenity", "Tsunami"), +10% to the "Ice Armour" effectiveness), and the most important elements for my strategy are Earth ("Regeneration, Mass", "Petrification"), Water ("Frozen Ground", "Summon Water Elemental", "Water Magic III") and Prime ("Time Stasis", "Arcane Exaltation III", "Magic Affinity III", "Meditation").
I really enjoy all the Elementals of "Heroes VI". But the most useful for me are the Water ones. I like them for having the "Ice Bolt" spell (it allows my Hero to save one extra ability point) that inflicts the "Frozen" effect on a target regardless of the Elementals' stack size.

Favorite: Air - for lightning offensive spell (especially with Sanctuary boost) and for best Elementals in the game (their chain lightning attack rules)
Dark - for Agony, Life Drain and Dark Elementals
Notable mention: Earth magic for regen + Earth elementals + cloud (and pertrify is nice too)
But the best thing in Heroes 6 is that every element/magic school is interesting...

Surprising answers!
1. Whats so good about dark elemental? I think light is better in every way..
2. Elvin, never quite liked Inferno.. Seems to be low damage compared to fireball/meteor shower
3. I'm yet to try the whole water magic with Sancruary.. Dont play them much, how does ice armor compare to effectiveness to stone skin? I suppose stone is is more effective for champions/elites due to % defence gain.
Have yet to see the potential of air/fire elementals. Air is aoe damage dealer, and fire is half melee suitable?

Just tried Fire Elementals - pretty powerful blockers, no melee penalty, plus Fireball on retaliations, was impressed. Air Elementals managed to hit once and were then destroyed by a stack of Jaguar Warriors..
I just realised that Stronghold hero can summon all 5 elementals in a single combat! Might try that as a strategy...

Inferno jumps from target to target long after it was cast, provided that the stacks are close to each other. It can mess you up and cause a panic reaction if you don't know how to deal with it. Burn baby burn
And dark elementals not only dispel buffs but they also apply weakness. Add no enemy retaliation and they are a pain in the butt. Light elementals are currently broken as their blind works like time stasis

Since, when I use magic at all since I'm more of a might guy, I go for wholesale destruction, my favs are Fire and Air. Though Water comes a good third as a Sanctuary Flood Conjurer can be pretty devastating as well.

Water Magic for me, being the most balanced school, with both Tears and Blood builds being able to benefit. But then, I'm a Naga guy, so this shouldn't surprise anyone.
Favourite Elementals? Tie between Earth and Air, Earth is a very nice living obstacle, while Air coupled with Daze is a most pleasing sight on the battlefield.

I wouldn't do that if I were You, Stronghold summons are weaker overall(No Arcane Exaltation!), and You'd run out of mana faster than You could believe.

Air's usually get one attack (still their damage output per attack is the biggest imo because they attack multiple targets), before enemy closes in on them. It's a matter of strategy, but I usually use elementals (every type) as cannon fodder (I throw them into the middle of enemy army), so it doesn't really matter if they're blocked. Darks are also useful because of their no retaliation. On the other hand, when defending against a siege the Air Elementals shine the brightest...

Yes, I meant all 6 I actually managed to win with this tactic, just summoning more and more elementals every turn. Most of them have magic damage as well. I almost ran out of mana, and yes without this 10 spellpower points from prime magic was a bit weaker but I put a lot in elemental masteries...!
Will start to use fire and air elementals more, they are not too bad..

Nice!...
Btw, been playing some Stronghold - all elementals on Tears hero did not go so well against other Magic hero... Stats are quite low on my hero.... Prime magic really makes a difference...
Then, only way to dispel is Purity, which is on a long cooldown.
After that I bought Agar(Blood Stronghold mage), but the problem is, to make your abilities, shamans and cyclops effective you need to pick three masteries up(earth, air, fire)!!!

Stronghold magic is a bit peculiar: You have to build around its limitations. Pure magic is not really an option, while pure might isn't even possible - You have to go hybrid. Mass Inner Fire, Luck, Leadership, Assailant/Defender, and Purity are a good foundation, Toughness as Tears and Archery as Blood(Maybe both against blood mages) generally come in handy, Storm Arrows is a bit situational, but can work wonders(For example on a Reinforced Goblin/Centaur stack), and the Idols can wreak havoc all by themselves. Ideas to consider are Frenzy(For a well-timed extra Cyclops attack) and Retribution Aura(Tears Mages can really mess with the undead with a charging Cyclops this way)

Magic Stronghold is quite complicated... And gives me a challenge, I want to learn how to make him effective. See, the tears mage is more straightforward - you got regeneration in Earth, Burning Determination in Fire, put points in these schools will benefit the only two magic creatures in your lineup. Then, summon fire elementals to block enemy shooters and let it defend. Only problem is, you also want to use these reputation spells, so you really only need to have about 3 other active spells.
The blood mage, Strormcaller, is much more complex. I mean, really, lvl 30 Stormcaller has the same might attack as his magic power?? (18) really?! Then, you want to use Fathers Sky Wrath straight away or its useless. And Idol of Storms on your second turn. And only then you'd use ypur other blood spells - puppet master, frenzy, maybe some Chain Lighting? To make them effective though, you need to waste a lot of points into these elemental masteries.. On other hand Stormcaller warrants the use of Jaguar Warriors instead of shamans due to his high attack power.
By the way, putiry is 1 per combat type of spell and ot does not diapell puppetmaster.
