Describe and/or poke fun at HOMM creatures
(Hopefully a legit place for this thread…)
In this thread, you describe what the design (or animations) of various creatures throughout the HOMM series are/might be influenced by, or what they remind you of. Have fun with it.
Heroes 1
Ogre- A caveman
Dragon- Spyro the Dragon’s Dad (or Mama, maybe)
Heroes 2
Steel Golem – The Tin-Man from Wizard of Oz bulked up
Air Elemental – The Earth (or Fire or Water) Elemental with a cloaking device turned on
Greater Druid – Someone in a bath robe with a hood
Heroes 3
Lizardman/Warrior – A green Jar Jar Binks (or is it correct to say Jar Jar Binks looks like a tan Lizardman/Warrior ?? )
Black Knight – Batman lost his cape and bat mobile but got a cool sword and horse, not to mention a new set of eyes too
Heroes 4
Troglodyte – A blind frog-man with a stick
Dragon Golem – A 4-legged mechanical spider
Devil- The Red Skull (Captain America's nemesis) goes medieval and thinks a pitchfork serves as a suitable replacement for his left hand
Heroes 5
Peasant – The most well-fed peasant out there
Treant – A huge, freaky puppet thing you’d see at an Arbor Day parade or festival
Lava Dragon - Volcanic Godzilla (what can I say though, I LOVE the concept and design… this is coming from someone who generally prefers the classic NWC creatures and looks)
Storm Titan – Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80’s with an unfortunate choice of fashion after falling in a bucket of radioactive goop (at least H6’s possible Titan resembles a traditional NWC Titan again)
Heroes 6
Ghoul – LOTR’s Gollum, as a bondage slave… with claws
Breeder – A fleshly alien version of the plant monsters called Ochu from the Final Fantasy series (looks like it came straight from a horror-science-fiction setting you’d expect in a DOOM game, ya know? Not something in a FANTASY-based setting… I feel similar with some of the other creatures in H6’s Inferno town)

Respect to Lizards? Bwahahahaa, there are no creatures as pathetic as those slimy sons of snowes. Just look at them, they think they're the kings of the woods, but no, they can't even scratch their backs without our help. And those ears, HA. What do they think they are, Elves? If so, get your lazy asses to AvLee where you can be with the other pretty princesses. I agree, though, they might surprise you with their bows from afar, but if they get close to me they'll find my trusty flail embedded in their little skulls so fast they won't feel a thing.

You probably even don't know, how many creatures were influenced not only by D&D but also by other various sources.
Let's try to complete some superheroes teams first.
X-Men
1. Scott Summers - HoMM2 Cyclops
2. Warren Worrington III - guess who from HoMM3
3. Bobby Drake - HoMM3 Diamond Golem
4. Jean Grey - guess who from HoMM1-2?
5. Wolverine - something big, furry and with claws from HoMM3 Stronghold
Fantastic Four
1. Johnny Storm - Fire Elemental from HoMM3
2. Invisible Woman - maybe not woman, but Air Elemental from HoMM2 fits this place
3. Thing - Earth Elemental from HoMM3
And now something from big screen:
Hammer Film Productions proudly presents:
Count Dooku, Saruman or just Christopher Lee as:
- Mummy in HoMM2
- Vampire in HoMM2
Night of the Living Dead:
- Mutant Zombie in HoMM2
Lord of the Ring (general, not from Peter Jackson trilogy)
- Halfing as Hobbit in HoMM2
- Rok as Eagle in HoMM2
- Archmage as Gandalf the White in HoMM2
Wizard of Oz (1939)
- Steel Golem as Tinman in HoMM2
Clash of the Titans (1981)
- Medusa in HoMM3
Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
- Skeleton in HoMM2
- Gorgon in HoMM3 (also D&D influence)
- Giant as Talos in HoMM2
And of course HoMM5 not so proudly presents:
- Haven as a rip-off from Warhammer Bretonia
- Sylvan as a rip-off from Warhammer Wood Elves
- Dungeon as a rip-off Warhammer Dark Elves
- Fortress as a rip-off of Dwarves

Ogre Magi (HoMM3) - Ogre Magi (Dota/Dota 2) - they both have a spell that can be used to buff allies' attacks (in HoMM it's melee damage, in Dota it's attack speed and movement speed).
Also, the OM in Dota is a Pokemon ripoff (in both Dotas the Ogre Magi's name is Aggron, which is also a third-gen Pokemon, although it's in no way related to the hero)

Quote: You probably even don't know, how many creatures were influenced not only by D&D but also by other various sources.
I did know before about H2 Cyclops (X-men Cyclops), H2 Golem (Wizard of Oz Tin-man), Fire Elemental (Fantastic 4), H3 Gorgon (D&D version, not Greek myth kind), and H3 Beholder (obvious D&D). Also, the H2 Skeleton too... besides Jason and the Argonauts, it also most certainly has an originator in another old film, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I just ended up providing most of my own interpretations in the initial post of this thread.
But the others you revealed I did find enlightening. For example, I didn't even think about H2 Zombie's (now-obvious) connection to Night of the Living Dead, haha...
Couple other things...
-It seems to me the appearance of the Wizard Hero from HoMM2 looks more to be directly influenced by Gandalf the White than the Archmage unit, wouldn't you say? Or maybe I'm thinking too much of Peter Jackson Gandalf (Ian McKellen)?
- Is it a stretch to think that H3's Pit Fiend and Pit Lord were influenced by Calibos from the original Clash of the Titans?

Rofl, the Warhammer replication is worse than I thought... I knew about both Elves and the Dwarves lacking originality and character, but now I realize how much Haven is a mirror image too...

How about the sounds creatures make? For example - gremlins homm3, when injured will sound disappointed or sigh as a sing of being misunderstood.

Night of the Living Dead:
- Mutant Zombie in HoMM2
this is why the mutant zombie is my favorite character from the Heroes games. what else is possibly cooler than a MUTANT ZOMBIE? oh wait, a TAP-DANCING MUTANT ZOMBIE....
<------
but, back to topic: fairy dragons? really? i suppose they're gay enough...

Come to think of it: in H3 the innuendo of the battle moves of Psychic Elementals and Magic Elementals is terrible. They look very impressive when they are standing still but once they attack one is dry humping you while the other is exposing himself...

Ok, older graphics and such aside, I could at least say that, in combat, most of the noises for HoMM1 and HoMM2 made sense.
I mean, yeah, some of the mass-effect spells caused the most hilarious "startled" expressions, but for the most part, nothing was unexpected.
Except for the HoMM2 Vampire for an attack.
He files over, strikes the enemy with his hands, and in the most stereotyped cliche/caricature voice, says, "Blah!"
That always gets a laugh out of me. In fact, the whole reason I dug up the game after years was to show it to my girlfriend - specifically how the vampire's voice is comical during his attack!
I swear, it's like they used the same voice actor who did The Count on Sesame Street.
I love it, but it's just too funny!

What disapointed me in HoMM5 is Dungeon is too elvish. I miss Trogos & other freaks of Dungeon.
Fortress otherhand is kinda boring they have great units like Thanes, Rune Piests & Lava Dragons but I would prefer more HoMM3 Fortress.
