Currently working on replacing the snow trees. I have 45 in the lineup, all made into defs that I am fine-tuning atm. I'm having to check for duplicates as I go. I have plenty waiting in the wings in case I need fills. Have 3 done so far; shouldn't take long because the fine-tuning is relatively easy. I also have the unicorn dwellings to remake w/ the new trees, as well as the other defs that contain snow trees. The dead ones I don't have to worry about, since they look good as-is. After all these are done, I'll only have the rough trees left to do. And I'm going to use tailored versions of the new trees to make those.

Ok, I have 20 done. I'll stop here for today, and pick it back up late tomorrow. Should have a screen by Monday. I also prepped 2 sets of web and dead trees for arachnid territory(for a map).

have 20 snow trees left to do, then i can work on the clusters and the other def replacements.

took a break from the snow trees yesterday to play a game.

got up to 38 snow trees done when i realized i didn't need 39-45. i have enough as-is to break up any repeating graphics. so now that the solo trees are done, i can work on the clusters. after them, i'll do the sawmill, and then any remaining defs containing living snow trees.

did two more trees to replace the 1st two defs, since the others are already named and in my lod. then i replaced the lean-to. now i just have the 6 cluster defs and the sawmill to do. the only potential slowing issue i forsee, might be the shadowing on the trees to better seperate them when clustering. so the pace is most likely going to be slower than usual with making these groups of trees.

turns out the pace isn't so bad. i'm having to burn the lights first, then the mids next. so it's only twice as much work burning as usual. i have 4 of the clusters done; i only have the 2 largest defs left. i'll take a break now, since i'm getting tired.

done with all the clusters. the only thing that remains to do(which will be short work), is the sawmill(and, it appears, replacing the trees on the HotA snow hill).

you have to be careful when placing shadows. if you want to get rid of them, use the smallest delete-box function in the editor, on the upper-left corner of the def. if you look closely, you will see one pixel that stands out. that is the pixel you need to delete, in order to delete the whole shadow. there is nothing to fix. they were designed that way. if you place one and it's not in the right place, undo it and try again, don't delete it, because it will take longer to rebuild your map if anything else is deleted "underneath" the shadow def.

you can't have a full-shadow def(only light and dark pink). you have to have at least one pixel(not pure black), in order for it to show up in-game. i placed that pixel in the upper left of the box, for easier removal.

Awesome work as usual, but I would strongly suggest you ask a moderator to rate your thread as project so you can edit the OP before you disappear for a while. Only the regulars will see the screens in the thread, please put the best screens in the OP, so newcomers can see the potential of all your hard work and it might motivate them to make some maps with it.

sounds like a good idea. i've been wondering why it wasn't rated "project" from the get-go. because as poetic as it is(???), it's actually an ongoing project.

@ galaad: lol, that was you? can you change it to anything? change it to "dick" or something similarly inappropriate. that'll motivate the mods to change it to "project".

@ neph: i have pondered that myself. i'd like to have floating ice as well, but i don't have the resources or what it takes to animate anything properly.

the problem, i think, is that by making any edges more "transparent", you won't be able to stack the defs properly. but i just had an idea... i could make slightly larger defs of the same ice, only having the entire def "transparent"(where you can see ocean or bubbles beneath it), and then layering the ice you see in the screen over it, so that i could have proper edges where needed(by covering up what's not needed to be transparent with non-transparent defs). that might actually be do-able.

i still have the stackable jungle water to fix before i will attempt new ice defs, though. for some reason, the same formula doesn't work on all the defs, even though they're all from the same source.

while looking for adequate screens to place in the op, i realized that i'll have to make more than a few new ones. i at least want one screen for each terrain(and it's possibilities). it'll be easier that way, instead of just posting a bunch of disorganized screens. i have to put the revised rocklands, old rough mountains, and the rough tree replacements on the back burner for now. i'll hold off with putting a rough terrain screen in until i've replaced their trees.

i'm working on updating the patch now(i'm on artifacts), before i work on the screens(i'll update the op when i'm done with both). thought i'd post progress of one def, a lava rock(the brighter, bland version is the original):

done renaming all the artifact defs; they're ready to go into the update. i'm debating on whether i'm going to go to the club tonight(since it's 80's night, which is the best night for this particular club. a really fun atmosphere on thursday nights), as i haven't been in a couple years now. i went out and bought an external hard drive to backup all my current(and future) modding work. i think 2 terabytes should cover it.

did some more renaming and organizing over the weekend. i have 263 defs left to add.

edit: i was off by a lot, lol. as it turns out, most of my latest stuff had already been added.

edit 2: forgot that i had already done 2 of the sawmills, so they're just being replaced.

edit 3: everything has been renamed. now i have to add everything to the patch and it's objts.txt file.

brought it up to 271 defs after remaking the charred cursed terrain that i had in my original objects patch release(part of the dragon terrain). i also replaced the skull on my old Fear Utopia using the new charred cursed terrain.

ok, after some minor changes and replacements, all the defs are added to the patch. now, to add them to the fredobjts text file. i should be done with the patch by tomorrow or the day after; and i should be done with the screens before too long after that.

after much of this week was botched due to me sleeping two seperate days and then concentrating on not falling asleep and being too tired/unfocused to work on the patch with any clarity the days after, i finally got the patch done today. now, i just have to make some screens, and check for bugs(which i don't anticipate); and it'll be set to release. i already uploaded the patch to my mediafire acct, so that's out of the way.

i already found an issue: i didn't replace my old werewolf dwelling with the better one i made. that's the only issue i found so far; hopefully that was the only one.

done with the latest patch(barring anything else i may have forgotten to add), and updated the op. and i'm only 25 minutes late.

edit 2: missed an object. reuploaded.

edit 3: oh yeah. i should probably mention what got added in this release... so, i added all the artifact graphics, all the trees i've been working on(only left to do are the rough terrain trees), and various other odds and ends i've been tinkering with. i would have added all the spider terrain stuff, but it's not done yet.

i'm currently working on 2 different creatures, that will be added in the future: a frost dragon(which i found the idea for here at hc), and a mummy(which i will recolor to make the royal mummy).

i still have much more to do, until i'll be satisfied. currently, the map object count in my patch is 4,756 defs.

thanks. i didn't really work hard on it. most of it is rehashed stuff from existing map work(hell, most of those screens have been posted here before; i just reposted them in one area). i was going to make brand-new screens, but that takes forever. i don't have the patience.

edit: i just realized that i don't have a volcanic terrain screen posted. i'll have to fix that. and i realize now why i haven't posted one yet. i have volcanoes to fix(3 of the h3 volcano defs, and all of the h2 volcanoes). back to work for me.

edit 2: added a quick volcanic screen to the op, until i fix the other defs.
