7. NORWAY
Margaret Berger - "I Feed You My Love"

~Controversial Elimination~

Yah well sorry Margaret fans, "I Feed You My Love" is only my 7th favourite this year. But it is fantastic nevertheless. I love pretty much everything about it: Music, vocals, lyrics, her dress... err (why is it always easier to write stuff when you focus on the negatives?) SO OK YEAH THE NEGATIVES: there are none, basically lol. The reason why Margaret Berger (btw a woman with an old crone's name performing the most contemporary song of the year <3) ranks this low isn't anything more than me just liking 6 songs more :X

Lol this write up sucks. ANYWAYS, I think Margaret is our winner. At this moment Emmelie is leading in the betting odds, but while "Only Teardrops" definitely has the *IT*factor required to enthrall an audience, Margaret is significantly better singer than Emmelie and her song is just about as infectuous. I have this *gut* feeling (intensified by overeating on beef stroganoff less than 30 mins ago lol :X) Norway will do better than Denmark, and since the contest likely stays in Scandinavia, it means an inpending Norge victory

Projected placement: 1-3

VII. Yohio - "Heartbreak Hotel"
SWEDEN - Runner-up

Slaying one predicted winner after the other MUHAHAHAHA

Ok guys, ever since Yohio announced his participation in MelFest, every person who knew of him talked about his like he's the best thing since sliced bread and... well he's good, but not *that* good, lol. "Heartbreak Hotel" is a solid 9 out of 10 for me.

That being said, Yohio got snubbed HARDCORE by the international MelFest juries, and I so don't get it. "Heartbreak Hotel" was the second best song in that finale and Yohio's singing was on par with pretty much everyone else except the old farts.

So why was he robbed? I'm not sure, but the only reason I can think of is 1) judgemental elitism (He dresses himself as a Final Fantasy character... He Must Be A Joke Entry KILL IT WITH FIRE") 2) prejudice/ignorance (He's An Emo EW KILL IT WITH FIRE") 3) Strategic voting. I mean, for those who didn't watch the MelFest finale: Yohio got 30 points from the juries, which is the one-but-lowest amount any finalist got, only before completely ANNIHILATING the televote. Is this really worth of a low score for you? No? I think the same way.

But I now got over Yohio losing to Robin Stjernberg *completely*, so it's time to cut him loose.

Margaret's got a Lifetime Guarantee.

But feed you my love simply does not strike as anything. It's boring. You even forget that there's music playing if it's in the background

Now, Yohio.
Well, snow Sweden is all I can really say here.
They're awesome. His voice is snowing sexy, they are techically good, they have a good song, their show is fantastic. Not to mention they're young and pretty, sure killer with the ladies. Robin needs to win if they want to avert a public stoning. I doubt he will.

6. SPAIN
El Sueño De Morfeo - "Contigo Hasta El Final"

This is sooooooooo pretty ::melts:: "I loved Contigo Hasta El Final" from pretty much second 1, when I heard those bagpipes, then followed by her beautiful voice and the GORGEOUS chorus. It's so simple and I guess people could say it's boring but... I just find CHEF very tranquil and pristine. Everything about it has a calming, eiphoric effect on me. It's weird. i kind i wish i put it even higher :3

Projected placement: 12-24 and i really cannot be any more specific than that sorry. Such songs are SUCH pains to placementpredict since they could do both really well OR very poorly OR... neither :3

Projected placement:

XI. Luminita Anghel - "Unique"
ROMANIA - Runner Up

Remember this?

MORE ROMANIAN RIDICULE <3 Actually the performance in the semi is just SLIGHTLY trashier, go watch that one hereif you're more into that.

But anyway this song is UNIQUE in more than one way and boy do I love it for that. THIS is my favourite from the Romanian selection (actually why don't we just have three Romanian entries in Eurovision 2013? Literally *no one* will miss Latvia's and Cyprus's entries) because it's just the *perfect* blend of OverTheTop ridicule and serious contender. I love Eurovision entries that encompass that bit of equilibrium.

Of course the MAIN reason why I love Unique is because it's Luminita Anghel who brings it, a screetching harpy who does her best effort to completely butcher the English language whilst singing <3 The secondairy reason for my Unique fandom: the music sounds like a tango version of the Plants vs Zombies theme, and that's just hilarious.

Good Job Romania for creating this unique piece of artistique

5. THE NETHERLANDS
Anouk - "Birds"

This is the best Dutch entry since 1993. Which is just realized is 20 years ago, YIKES.

And we continue down the same paradigm with "Birds". Oh my god, I thought this one was rather plain at first, but the more i listen to it, the more i think it's quite pretty and just ~too good~ for Eurovision. Ok that makes me sound like a snob srsly but these are ANOUK's own words, which leads me to why this is above "CHEF" despite having almost the same opinions applying to "Birds" as well.

I.. ADORE Anouk. Actually, i was a HUGE fan of hers before. Girl and Nobody_s Wife are two of my FAVOURITE songs of all time. So when she was announced to be the Dutch Participant back in November i instantly hit annoying fantard mode and have been terrorizing splinterboards and chatrooms with my rabid fandom ever since.

The funny thing is that I am not excited for Anouk anymore JUST because she's Anouk. I mean, the fact that she's a glam rockchick who looks remarkable well for her age is a nice plus, but Anouk's entire existance in Eurovision has been just... completely hilarious.

Ok some examples

1) Although the Dutch were the FIRST to announced their performer, it took them FOUR MONTHS to reveal the name of the song Anouk would sing. Even then it took another one-and-a-half months before "Birds" actually was released

2) Although this is widely considered to be THE. LAST. HOPE. OF. THE. NETHERLANDS. to do well at Eurovision, Anouk... really doesn't seem to care about the contest at all.(ad-verbatimAnouk quote: "Well... i'd like to make the finals, yeah... I guess ) Actually, she just doesn't want to have ANYTHING to do with Eurovision at all and furthermore refuses to go to any of the Eurovision events (). Usually such stank elitism would turn me off, but because the Netherlands are SO desperate to do well and this nonchalant, indifferent woman is their final hope is just so hilarious to me lol.

3) Even inspite of Anouk seething indifference towards Eurovision, she will probably qualify and place in the top10 because she's just that awesome/her fanbase is just that insane.

Projected placement: 5-10

V. Ralf Gyllenhammar - "Bed On Fire"
SWEDEN - Finalist

When everything else fails, use FIYAH.

Ok SO WHAT if Ralf is a terrible live singer. This performance is AWESOME. It was my favourite in the finale of MelFest. It's SO OTTridiculous (a good sign if ever there way) and it's brought with so much conviction and zeal you're just SUCKED into the entire performance. I think it's E-P-I-C really. Second best option for Sweden overall imo.

4. GREECE
Koza Mostra feat. Agathonas Iakovidis

DRINK! DRINK! DRINK! ALCOHOL IS FREE ANYWAY. Also, PLEASE BE WEARING KILTS IN MALMÔ BECAUSE THAT'S A SIGN OF SURPEME AWESOMENESS.

This is SOOOOOO MUCH fun, basically. A lot of people HATE this entry Because It Doesn't Take The Contest Seriously How Dare It and i've got a lot of things to say about such attitudes (mostly involding the removal of sticks from unspecified parts of the body where the sun never shines), so errr the kindest thing I can say I guess is "Shut Up and enjoy the damn' show ".

Seriously though i have no idea which humourless dried-up prune would dislike a song that SO blatantly adverized plain drunken fun. I'm not even that much of a drinker myself, and I'm sure this song is more of an anti-crisis pamphlet moreso than an alcoholism enabling chant, AND it's a good, infectuous song so I don't understand what the problem is. I guess some people just have a distate for the notion of anyone else having fun.

Also just the juxtaposition of random greek lyrics (which apparently don't even make sense in GREEK) to "Alcohol, Alcolol, Acohol is Free" being chanted is the funniest thing. Agathonas has also WON ME OVER. What a charming c00t geriatric. Such an apt replacement for last year's Mini-Babushka <3

I would like to end with WHAT a clever choice of a song this is btw. With Koza Mostra, Greece is GUARANTEED to not win, but still do well. And they selected an awesome song too. Any country who wants to throw the comp in the future: TAKE NOTES ASAP.

Projected placement: 11-20 somewhere in the top 20, but where exactly, i'm not sure. Maybe even top 10? lol that'd be awesome actually.

IV. Esma & Lozano - "Imperija"
MACEDONIA - Original entry

WARNING: RANT AHEAD

This video is the only evidence that remains of IMPERIJA's existance. It's so depressing.

Omg perhaps this wasn't the wisest move to rank this song after marathoning 7 other eurovision write-ups, because I've got a lot to whine about. i'll try (and probably fail) to keep is succint.

So the question on my mind is: WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT. Apparently, some Greek idiologically-blinded fundamentalist nationalists found the idea of Macedonia (NO! THE ~FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC~ that *wrongfully* refers to itself  as "Macedonia" I forgot my political correctness, apologies. ). ok, so these ... schlemiels found the very idea of FYROM entering Eurovision with a song called "Imperija" (which I think you've understood by now means "Empire") ~CULTURALLY OFFENSIVE~  so they did everything in their power to make Macedonia (whoops: *FYROM* pardon) withdraw their song. This was then JUXTAPOSED to another source of controversy surrounding Imperija: apparently it was meant to double as promotional song for an event called Skopje 2014, which annoyed many of FYROM's denizens for reasons my foreign brain fails to comprehend.

To cut a long story short, instead of just persuing the obvious, logical route of "uhm it's just a song, get over it" the Macedonia delegation decided to pussyfoot around the issue and withdrew Imperija and then... replaced it with this pathetic excuse of a song instead.

GOD BLESS THE MACEDONIAN EMPIRE.

I am still SO irate about this because I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Imperija so much. It was perfect. Lozano and Esma's voices complemented each other really well, it was modern and incredibly infectuous. It easily could have ranked at #1 had it been kept. It wasn't though, and this IRKS me. I hope you can now understand why I put Macedonia in my bottom 3 over the actual-worst-song-of-the-year, Latvia.

Ok and now i'm out for today. Ukraine, Bulgaria and San Marino remain. Three countries, Two updates, one winner... peace out

3. BULGARIA
Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov - "Samo Shampioni"

YES THIS IS MY THIRD PRE-SHOW FAVOURITE DEAL WITH IT.

Remember this?

I understand that having "Samo Shampioni" is a VERY weird choice to have in your top 3, especially this year, but i've grown so fond of it for several reasons:

1) It's a damn good song I mean, it's not the most complex thing on the planet but it's incredibly infectuous, ethnic and UNIQUE. As i'm writing this update, i'm looping Samo Shampioni in my headphones and - well i'd rather dance/sing along ALL DAY instead of write, which is a GOOD sign!! The drums/dubstep beat/bagpipes (btw BAGPIPES <3) give the music a lot of body and Elitsa's voice compliments it well (more on that later)

2) It's Bulgaria: I mean, as someone who has a Bulgarian mother, I DO tend to have more pronounced opinions on Bulgaria's entry anyway. This entry is REALLY good imo and maybe my favourite Bulgarian entry of all time? It's really close between Samo and Voda/Water anyway, which brings me to:

3) This is the spiritual successor of Voda: Elitsa & Stoyan's record of the only Bulgarian entry to ever make the finals will not be broken this year <3. "Samo Shampioni" is pretty much it's successor: It's the same blend of epic drum pounding, incoherent screetching, electro-ethnic music and fun. Which is GREAT.

4) Elitsa's voice: I mean, Elitsa is the best singer in the world. But Her voice has a special, otherwordly quality to it and she uses it really well. The random screaming <3 "AAAAAAH AAAAHHH AAAAAAAA AHHHHHHHHH YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" <3

5) The entire selection debacle: Ok this is the backbone of my fandom, actually. Bulgaria had three possible songs for Elitsa & Stoyan to perform. "Samo Shampioni" and two others that weren't nearly as good (actually, they were insipid and terrible respectively). By some WEIRD mishap, the insipid KISMET won the preselection. The results: meltdowns all over the internet from fans who prefered Samo Shampioni (which was just about everyone). None of these meltdowns even COMPARED to Elitsa's, who was FURIOUS when Samo wasn't selected and refused to perform Kismet. .

BUT THEN!!! BTV, the tv station that had arranged the entire Bulgarian preselection process, suddenly found EVIDENCE of copyright infringement! The issue was never further elaborated on, Kismet was dumped onto the garbage heap and "Samo Shampioni" was then put forward as its replacement.

Thank god Bulgaria understood the concept of "beneficial" rigging lol.

Projected placement: 15-30 Bulgaria is a HUGE question mark for me. I can see it qualifying and even placing in the top15 (elistoyan are not breaking their 2007 record, that's for sure), yet at the same time.. if this does NOT qualify i wouldn't be entirely surprised. I really hope that the absense of Gigi Radics/imperija will ensure their qualification, as it -imo- righteously should.

III. Grete Paia - "Päästke Noored Hinged"
ESTONIA - Runner up

This was my favourite *SERIOUS* song of the entire preselection process. The other two of on the Should Have Been list are so-called "Joke Entries" and I didn't see Ukraine's selection. (San marino's and Bulgaria's () entries were internally selected), so this leaves Adorable Badass Munchkin Grete Paia's song as my favourite. I was CRUSHED when Päästke Noored Hinged" (and my other Estonian favourite whom i'll take about really soon) lost to Birgit BÕREMEEL.

I can't precisely lay my finger on why I love PNH this much. I really like the combination of an audibly awkward language like Estonian to modern dubsteppy music sung by a diamond-in-the-rough. (Grete's singing isn't PERFECT, but that unpolished qualify makes her performance better actually?). I think it's very special. Now cue to every reader expressing how BORING it is

And she's so *adorable*, really. She performs with so much conviction and energy that I'm fully willing to ignore any vocal issues i may have. Had this been selected it would have made the finals and finished around ~14th~ place. Instead Estonia went with the most easy and inoffensive option and is probably not gonna qualify at all. What could have been.

II. Winny Puhh - "Meiecundimees Üks Korsakov Läks Eile Lätti
ESTONIA - third place

#Kashyyyk2014

This Wookiee trollfest SLAYS me every time I see it. Sorry if you HATE this ...errr... "song". It's the kind of entry you either LOVE with all your hearts or HATE with a passion as ardent as a thousant suns. I am rather firmly in the Lovers camp, sorry.

I mean what can be said about this disheveled, entropic performance? I mean, i've seen a LOT of OMGWTFBBQ stuff on the internet, but this trumps most i've seen; Key to why I love Meiecu- WINNY PUHH is pretty simple: I find this HILARIOUS. Dressing up like wookiee's in spandexes <3 screecing in random estonian <3 spinning drummers <3 everyone dying on stage OR suspended in the air <3 Someone pinch me and tell me this is real. <3

Actually this performance is a tad too OTT, even for my tastes. Their semifinal performance is less OTT and just as fun (i mean whenever I think of it I just.. crack up. btw: that's the real test of whether is funny or just terrible - if it makes you laugh it's not *subjectively* terrible).

My dream opening for Semifinal 1, really. Could you imagine the meltdowns when it would inevitably qualify and place in the top 3? I'm eternally grateful for Estonia and Winny Puhh for making my life a happier place. This truly was a great troll entry...

I. Army of Lovers - "Rockin The Ride"
SWEDEN - Semi finalist

... but not as great as ARMY OF LOVERS sorry Winny Puhh lol. Not surprising considering Army of Lovers was a pretty big band in the nineties, as I've understood and reformed JUST for eurovision.  "Rocking The Ride" is just more polished, more accessible and imo funnier. As OTTShocking MUKLAL was, "Rockin the Ride" is, as you will agree just the Party Anthem of Eurovision this year. At least it SHOULD have been. God this was so robbed.

Ok I'll just randomly list all what i love about it

- "Dérangez, Boulversez, Avalez, Melangez, Rettachez et voilá, Kinky Kong ^__^" dafuq lol
- I LOVE that broken record section in the beginning where they just keep doing the same thing over again. SO hypnotic <3
- STARFISH NIPPLES
- Cowardly horny lion/Captain Nemo/African Fertility Goddess costumes
- That CRIMINALLY infectuous beat. NA NA NA NA NA
- The throne <3 So pristine <3
- Being pretty much about sex and nothing else <3
- having a faqing ORGY ON STAGE <333
- Camilla's LED-cross crotch <3 the spot radiating from between her legs insinuating her magic vagic <3
- random gay kiss on stage
- "I WAS BORN SEVEN MILLION YEARS AGO, IN SWEDEN, AFRICA. ::bulges eyes:: I AM LA CAMILLA... AND I ~RULE~ THE WORLD"

bow down minions. holy crap BEST. THING. EVER.

And this finished 6th out of 8 in the semi. I understand this is just... the campiest thing that ever existed but... that's also what makes it so wonderful.

AND NOW... for the grand finale

2. UKRAINE
Zlata Ognevich - "Gravity"

Nothing comes from dreams but dreams
Still you believe in one love
Something happens and it seems
like a strike of thunder......

Nothing comes from love but love
Why is it growing stronger?
I am falling from above?
i will wait no longer

IMMA LIKE A BADDARFLYYYY
SPINNING ROUND THE SWORD AS IF TO DARE
I SHOULD HAVE STAYED UP HIGH
it's stronger than me - LIKE GRAVITY, LIKE GRAVITY

Nothing comes from pride but pride
My way is clear yehhhhhiyeahhhh
Dancing on the edge tonight
NOW I FEEL NO FE_AAAAAR

IMMA LIKE A BADDERFLYYYYYYYY
SPINNINGH ROUND THE SWORD AS IF TO DARE
I SHOULD HAVE STAYED UP HIGH
It's stronger than me LIKE GRAVITY, LIKE GRAVITY

I'm like a butterfly ^__^ Like gravity
IMMA... LIKE.. A ... BADDERFLYYYYYYYYYY
AND I SHOULD HAVE STAYED UP HIGH
It's stronger than me - like gravity, like gravity

GRAVITY.

Wow. My mind is BLOWN by this one. It's perfection. I just get lost in those AMAZING lyrics (i love her pronounciation, botched and broken as it is. It's charming, actually!! ^__^)
and between Zlata's radiant beauty and AMAZING video clip i just don't know what the HELL i must praise first.

Interestingly, when Gravity first came out, I initually disliked it. It was rather awkward imo. It was a very melodic powerballad that tried to implement incredibly Over the top vocalists. I just thought it was a mess that tried to be INCREDIBLY impressive yet melodically sound and achieved neither.

And then Gravity got a major overhaul and embraced its OverDaTop side. Every complaint I had initially was taken away. The first Gravity suffered from Anggun Syndrome (basically: it tried to do too many things at once which made it a mess) and the new version is just.. pure synergy. I haven't yet seen it live, but I know Zlata and her backing vocals are AWESOME (... live singers :3) so i doubt it'll disappoint.

Please, please, PLEASE win. I'd much rather have this be the dark unicorn to steal the win away from North-Western Europe than Russia.

Projected placement: 1-5. I have a feeling this will finish fourth.

AND THIS MEANS OUR WINNER IS NONE OTHER THAN!

1. SAN MARINO
Valentina Monetta - "Crisalide"

Remember this?

The SAME duo that was responsible for the extremely fun Social Network Song (San Marinese singer Valentina Monetta and eurovision brontosaurus Ralf Siegel) now brings this... wow. What a turnaround. I was excited the SECOND they were announced as being the next San Marinese entry yet again and... before Crisalide's release i was one of... i think 5% of the eurovision internet fanbase that was happy with this choice. The other 95% were MOANING AND MOPING. "Ugh Those two again. Why don't you take the contest SERIOUSly, San Marino? Don't You Want To Win"

Seriously, every possible Ascetic puritan whine about San Marino in their usual Spartan voices "Well They Won't Qualify If They Don't Send A Serious Song " instead of following the more logical rationale of... "uhm, it's San Marino and this is Eurovision? Of course they won't qualify". People can be really dumb sometimes. o_O

But anyway, Crisalide. I before Crisalide's release I had (and I kid you not) a CLAIRVOYANT DREAM about San Marino sending a serious, low-tempo but epic powerballad. And then it turns out that San Marino was going to send exactly that. My interest was more than peaked.

Is this my true favourite? Perhaps not. but it is the entry i'm most exicted for, because Crisalide is pretty much a win-win situation for me. Either it fails to qualify and the idiots that blabber about Serious Contests are proven wrong once more or Crisalide qualifies and... becomes one of the greatest underdog stories of this year, and the idiots that blabber about Serious Contests (those that hated crisalide pre-release out of PREJUDICE) are proven wrong once more.

I won't even attempt to make a projected placement on this. I can see Crisalide failing, but I wouldn't be too surprised it if sneaked itself into that finale due to a combination of Italy lovers and jury votes. If San Marino makes the final and has a good draw... I can see this place in the top 10. The juries will definitely love this. It's solidly entertaining, artistic enough AND the ending GOD the ending is just... epic. Amazing crescendo. So much better than Italy, right, Italy lovers?

Fly, along with the wings of love
Fly, lose the chips on your shoulder and be like a vid
Everyone, sing along
Fly
Fly
FLYYYYY TOGETHER WITH HERRRR

At the start of kismet I was totally psyched. That kind of eerie song would have been great. (Because we all know bulgraian choirs and bagpipes equal awesome.) We don't get many of those in eurovision. Then it goes on and it's all bleh.

I think the problem with Grete is that she doesn't sing. She recites the words out loud. It's like rap.
And I'm not sure if she's supposed to be off key constantly but it annoys the hell out of me.

Dem wookies man, dem wookies.
It's a perfect piece. Just made so it sounds awesome, gets stuck in your head and annoys the snow out of you. just

Army of Lovers is so 90s. Perfect Eurodance: the most ridiculous stage performance, catchy tune with words that don't make any sense and amazing female vocalist with male backing. Not to mention tons of fun! Got to love it. Totally gets my vote too.
Just a little note. This isn't actually a joke entry. Not if we count it in as an eurodance piece. They're humouristic to begin with so it can be counted in as a serious attempt of eurodance.

As for ALC, dude I love you but no one messes with Bonnie Tyler...

Nah man, don't get me wrong, like I said, I have plenty of love for Bonnie, and if you'd seen me do the 'I Need A Hero' scene from Bandits, you'd know I was telling the truth (if you're not familiar with that movie, go look it up, it's awesome, but here's a previwe). But you gotta be real, and the way she moves in that video is really horrible, and my biggest fear is that she'll make a total fool of herself at the live show. You may remember the UK entry last year, that wasn't even a bad song, but a good song is just not enough at the live shows.

At the start of kismet I was totally psyched. That kind of eerie song would have been great. (Because we all know bulgraian choirs and bagpipes equal awesome.) We don't get many of those in eurovision. Then it goes on and it's all bleh.
It's a pretty poor song overall, yet again better than the last few Bulgarian entries. Given that more than 95% of the current generation of Bulgarian musicians are mediocre at best and totally worthless in most cases, it could've been worse.

Here is what can be truly considered a superb mixture of modern and folklore sounds, probably one of the best Bulgarian songs ever and if it wasn't more than 20 years old, it would've been an uncontested choice for Eurovision.

Welcome to Malmö!

A picture I took last week in my daily commute – The Final Countdown has started, and such a remarkable monument we’ve got to celebrate this! Inspiring. I’m nevertheless convinced it will be a great week when the circus comes to town.

Anyway, I have FINALLY read, watched and listened through this thread, and while the thread was presented as ranting I think that it has a high percentage of relevance. Very nice of you Lexxan to present highlights that did not win their national contests. Here's my thoughts about some of the entries:

Denmark
I can’t get the hype. Ethnic flutes, Ruslana drums, wind in hair, fire on stage and a pretty barefoot girl – none of these ESC Classics can hide that the lyrics are not that great and that the music is becoming uninteresting when it starts to repeat itself after the first chorus.
It’s good compared to many other entries, but Emmelie isn’t the worthiest winner. Cool history about the de Forest name.

Spain
This is one of my favorites as it got ethnic bagpipes, wind in hair, fire on stage and a pretty barefoot girl and other ESC Classics. But the most important thing is that the music is just great and she has a good voice. On the downside the music may be to varied, it’s folk, ballad, pop and guitar rock at the same time but so what when everybody get at least one thing they want, potentially several.

Netherlands
Anouk is indeed “~too good~” for this! I have more or less missed that she exists but Birds together with Nobody’s wife and Girl really caught my interest. Her music is soon to be added in my playlists.

Albania
This is U2 through and through: epic ringing guitars, anti-military yet with a somewhat militaristic arena image, a song about identity and religion. But what have happened to BONO’s voice? And the guitar solo is out of character for the Edge. Even if it can't compete with Pride or Sunday Bloody Sunday it’s better than the modern U2's Magnificent, which has a similar sound but is kind of watered down, without energy. Could become a favorite if they are good on stage.

France
Another good one. Cool video and more cool guitars. It will be interesting to see how it will be in Malmö.

Ukraine
I this one is good and while it's not an entirely fair comparison I always come to think on the Eurythmics' There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart). It's the rythm, wailing, long curly hair, fairy tale video, both songs and videos are a bit too much. One good and one funny version of the same thing.

Taking a break for discussing BADDARFLYYYY

Malmö presents the Official Symbol under the headline “The Butterfly Has Landed”. The PR consults Happy Forsman & Bodenfors explains that they wanted to find the common denominator of Swedish Television, ESC and the city itself (and that's the butterfly!).  “The butterfly is a species that exists in an unlimited number of variations, just like humans. It also represents change, freedom and beauty”.

Karl X Gustav – who spent his five years as king in the field pillaging Poland and conquering the eastern half of Denmark including Malmö is now officially crowned with a baddarfly on his shoulder as the party king!

(And btw, Dave Stuart looks like him in the Eurythmics video mentioned above)

***

Ok, back to the music.

Switzerland
Oh yeah, another rock n’ roll band! It makes me happy. Clearly electric guitars are not the devil’s music, as some fanatics claim. Nice funny video – TO MALMÖ!
San Marino
This one starts as one of the best ballads of the year, gets an echo of Nothing Else Matters from around 1:20 and then suddenly transforms to It’s Raining Men! I’m out of words.
UK
Not my kind of music, not my generation and not bad either.
Russia
Lacks credibility.
Belgium
The prechorus between 40-60 seconds has something, that’s it.
Germany
Unoriginal, and comes with a boring video.

SWEDEN
I think we have a good chance to get a very good result this year but everything depends on what happens on the stage. Can Robin Stjernberg step out through the TVscreen and make people remember him and the song? He certainly has the potential to do that, and I've read that a new show is rehearsed.

Bye for now, see you later

the Rehearsals are happening right.damn.now.

Some notes:

- Zlata promising everyone a "big surprise" in her interviews and OF COURSE she meant it literally <3 being carried on the stage by a giant for no reason <3 btw after tonight Ukraine is SECOND in the betting odds they better win now.

- Ireland realizing they are boring and just blatantly campaigning for The Gay Vote by sending half-naked dancers on stage for no reason <3 still dull tho.

- Anouk nailing it, as per usual. She actually cares about the contest now, lol. Plz win <3

- Klapa s mora performs in traditional victorian embroided gentleman's frock, making their already awkward and unintentionally homoerotic performance even MORE awkward and unintentionally homoerotic <3

- Who See dressing up as Astronauts

- Alyona Lanskaya emerging from a spacecraft shaped like a discoball. <3 I don't remember if i mentionned it, but the explanation behind 'Solayoh' is that the song is about a DISTANT planet where everyone's happy and dancing and the sun shines the entire time <3 Belarus thinking you need interstellar space travel to have a great time <3

- Russia X___X plz fail.

- Cyprus is still sleep-inducing and Despina fittingly wears a matronly see-through sleeping gown during her rehearsals (plz let that be her actual dress during the semi lol)

- Moldova applying the ancient Roman principle of Imitatio Et Aemulation and improving the Paint Dress act of Sabina Babayeva <3 She's such a loltard too <3

- Austria, Estonia and Slovenia are nice but unremarkable imo.

Also, in an attempt to force me to like Robertoad more i screened his backing vocalists and had fun cruising the webside of his MALE backing vocalist. Not only is this BaVo's website hilariously narcissitic (<3) it also doesn't mention eurovision or roberto in any way or from despite him being the defacto main male vocalist of Luv Keels (<3) and to top it all off, here's his agenda for the upcoming month:

Not even Robertoad's own backing vocals believing he'll make the finals <3 We are, as most people would say it, pretty damn' Fµç§€d.

This year is still awesome.

It has begun!

The formal opening was yesterday and The Town is crazy with more than 180 ESC related parties, shows and things to do during the week. Don't know how many if any things I will go to since much of it is not worth the bus ticket, or for the participating childrens' parents, or "seen it before". And some great stuff, where (of course) the crowd will be!

Some rumours I've heard indicate that:

- Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the local football god, will probably participate somehow.
- It will be a very "ironic" show focusing on the wierd sides of the
Swedes, an ESC concept only a Swede could come up with.
- The popular manboy Eric Saade will do the interviews in Green Room.
- Tourists are estimated to spend 20 million €.
- Loreen will perform Euophoria with a mute choir.
- It's the most climate friendly competition ever.
- The official food flavours are liqourice, elder, rhubarb, red chili and apple mint.
- The local music high school pupils that worked as stand-ins during the eary rehersals
were better than many countries' official artists.

Good news: The biggest (only) newspaper in Malmö gives Belgium and 5 is max

That was a good one, the stage looks good and the boss got a good haircut.

And after being at the dress rehearsal the local newspaper now gives only 3 stars to Belgium, saying it's nice polish on it but little real vocal content.
