Poll Question:
Heroes Of Might And Magic III On Steam?

Hello all, I come here to ask one simple question, would you guys like to have Heroes Of Might And Magic III on steam?

I have talked with Ubisoft via e-mail and I was told to post on the Ubisoft forums and see how many people would be intrested.

Here is the latest e-mail:

Quote:
Hello,

I would suggest visiting the Might and Magic forums at http://forums.ubi.com to see if you can get in touch with one of the community developers for the Heroes games.

It can be difficult to get direct correspondence from them, but you can at least post a thread regarding this issue. There may be many other players that feel similarly and the more people that request something the more likely something will happen.

We have forwarded your suggestion along to another team, unfortunately there are no other points of contact for the Might and Magic team.

Enjoy the day,
Matthew
Ubisoft Support

So, I suggested a few things for the possible Steam release, take a look:

1. Options for higher resolutions without buggy mods.
2. Achievments
3. Clear, non-buggy multiplayer

And possibly some new features. A man can hope, right?

Feel free to add more suggestions and if anyone knows who could I also contact, I would appreciate the help.

Here is the link to the thread where you can also vote:

Also, yes, Ubisoft actually responded.

Responses:
Yes
No
I don't care

Sadly, I don't see Ubisoft making this.

lol, do you really think that Ubi will do anything for 14-year-old game?
forget it. changing game resolution is not so easy, even having game source codes. Baratorch has made ~50 patches/bug fixes during 3 years and Ubi will not invest 300-500K euro just for few hundred players that still play online at Gameranger.

I exchanged quite a few e-mails with that guy from the Ubi Support, he is actually supporting my idea thus he forwarded it to other teams, I believe it actually may be possible, even tho it's Ubisoft.

It wouldn't cost that much man. And even so, it's not a few hundred, lol. They could easily get new fans who enjoyed Heroes VI and V and never actually played this, or even people who forgot about it over the years.

Why would they do that if it's already on GoG for $9.99?

Not to mention H1-5 (with expansions, of course) and all Heroes Chronicles...

Let me just say:

Postal
Postal 2
Age Of Empires 2 (not sure about this one)
Duke Nukem 3D (also not sure if it is on there)
Doom (same)
Doom 2 (same)
____________
I once did a thing.

untill the moment, when some decisions about the cost and ROI will be made.

have you ever managed team of programmers?

there should be REAL reason to convince people to use any new patch/mod/addon from Ubi.
some players like simultanius turns in homm3, so they will stay with homm3 WT version.
some players like creature experience, tax, bank and other "full WT" features in homm3, so they will stay with homm3 WT version.
some players like additional buttons, hot keys, password protection in HD mod, so they will stay with homm3 HD mod version.
some players like Commanders, creature experience and possibility to adjust game to their personal taste, they will stay with homm3 WOG version.
some players just don't want to install/learn something new.

I'm Heroes III online player and Age of Empires II online player as well. Both of them are ~14 years old games. After Hiiden Path made AoE HD steam version it was in TOP10 of selling games from the start of pre-purchase and even reached TOP1 for few days after release. Programmers added only HD patch, few graphics changes, achievments and steam multiplayer. Community was expecting a lot more changes, but still it was enough to sell more than 100k copies (this number only includes ppl who played multiplayer). The number of online multiplayer gamers of AoE HD version is 5-10k comparing to 1-2k of old AoE, so it made such a big boost to community.
I wish Heroes 3 were added to the steam, it was very popular game in the past too, so why not?

Exactly my point.

@SAG

Oh yes I did, I worked with programmers before, and it's not anything like you are making it to be. It's not hell.

I would love to see Heroes III Complete on steam, even if it came as the native version, but ideally with steam integration for multiplayer.

Of course mod support would be a bonus.

Heroes Of Might And Magic III On Steam?

Yes, this is a very good idea. What we need to do to bring it back is make it easy to access with modern suitability.
This would be a good addition to me and my playmates on Steam.
I support this 100%.

But I dont think Ubisoft will do the work, we need need to get some men who know their head around code and such stuff. Then we will need money to give to them, and then we will need a deal with Valve/Steam to get it sorted out. This is basically it and I think everyone knows this.

I suggest we make a campaign to raise money, either donation or players buying the game before its made. Kickstarter as an example is a great way to fund this project. But for the funding to be functional the campaign must share the news to everyone lips youtube, facebook and major Game news heads need to help us.
We will prolly have to buy the licence from Ubisoft too. This costs money too a snowing load!
To get in on Steam, its either a deal with Valve or through Greenlight (which is voted on) if we want to succeed we cant gamble with it.

Ill help with whatever I can, this will be a big project to make a successful campaign, its not something we expect to work, its something we make work.

100%

Heroes III on steam... Wonderful.
I do not know the first thing about coding and such but I would definitely donate money to buying the source code or whatever is necessary. Btw please do vote on the ubi forum, if we want this to become reality then have to do something about it, not just wait for it to happen.

Yeah I still don't see the point of this. Steam is just a less good version of GOG. Why would we want it on the former when we've already got it on the latter?
