Yes, the one-eyed character John Goodman plays represents Cyplops and the blues singer he tries to kill who sold his soul to devil is actually referring to Robert Johnson. Urban legend is he sold his soul to the devil to play so well. "Getting crossed" was a pun and here is the funniest death scene ever:

Nice. But very hard to remember anything so specific, haven't seen the movie in ages...
Maybe the Zenofex one next :

I think being specific makes it easier not harder. Clues that are too general brings countless possibilities to mind.

Probably. But the New York escapee thing only fits if you bring in another Kurt Russel movie (Escape from New York) and if I remember right, he didn't die in the finale, it was an open ending.
Anyway, I consider bringing in more than one movie in a single clue kind of cheating, it will mess things up.

He was not an escapee, that is clearly a reference to the Sneak movie. Anyway, let's wait for Zenofex, it will be quite funny if the answer is wrong.

That's the one.  The escapee part is from "Escape from New York" and was meant to be a major hint for the lead actor (at least I thought so). Come on, it was much easier than the "whiny teenager".
