HoMM 2 Price of Loyalty
I am currently playing the exapnsion campaigns, and they're not half bad, some scenarios better than the Roland & Archibald ones. Still a better story than Homm5/MM: H6
Currently on 2nd map of Descendents.

Not to sound cocky or anything, but the point of this thread is...?
Regardless, good luck. I haven't played the first two games, but I guess I should at some point.

The point?Discussion on HoMM 2 PoL, of course.
Right now I'm on the third scenario, the second was a little tricky but I didn't have any major issues.

Third was tricky as well, the solution was to build up a powerful magic hero.
Now I'm on the 4th.

You definitely should!
Re-played the campaigns of both the original and the expansion about 6 months ago, it's pretty challenging and really fun in my opinion.

The first HOMM is simple, charming in a fun way. It makes you realize where did the stuff like "Bless overrides Curse" came from.
After playing Heroes I-II you realize Heroes III was by far the least innovative game in the serries. It added a lot of units and spells and repositioned some (many for the worse, like Mass Haste level 3 -> level 1, Mass Slow level 4 -> level 1). But it added few new systems.
Heroes II added mana (magic points), secondary skills, creature upgrades.

Personally I think I prefer II just a tiny bit over III, I just love the aesthetics and atmosphere so much, and I feel like the campaign structure was a bit easier to follow as well.
However I think you underestimate how many things were added or changed in III, major things like underground, element based magic specialty skills, random map generator, increased combat complexity(by adding "wait"), hero specialties, the new artifact system, being able to press "space" to revisit the dwelling/object your hero is standing on(no more getting stuck in 2-way monoliths because there's a pack of red dragons on the other side yay!)
And then smaller things like variety in the movement range of flying creatures, seer's hut quests, border guards, one-way monoliths, and a lot more things I can't think of off the top of my head right now
Either way, they are both amazing games obviously .

Incorrect. "Wait" was first implemented in HoMM II, not III. More info here.

Since you have to modify the game to make it work, I don't think Wait was actually impelemented in H2.

Incorrect again. Look carefully at the official HoMM II trailer with the beautiful Wait button: here.
Update: A quote from HoMM II: TSW original exe (Nov. 4 1996)
Quote: {Wait} Have the current creature wait to take its turn until all the other creatures have gone. The creature does not lose its turn.
P.S. I'm just reported the facts: "Wait" was first implemented in HoMM II. I've already brought enough evidence. The programmer can verify this
by yourself. I'm not going to persuade anyone else.

Ok, show me exactly how can I use the Wait button without modifying the exe and I'll agree.

Oh I'm sorry, didn't play PoL that much to be honest .
I personally prefer vanilla HoMM II.

I saw this post and I thought it will be perfect for my question
It is a little bit off topic but ....
So I play the original campaign - with the Roland side.
I reached to mission 9 and for now i don't have a lot of problems.
When you complete mission 6 you have a chance to choose between 2 missions : 7.The Gauntlet or 8.The Crown
so I choose mission 7 and at the end of the battle i got like 40 champions , 70 Veteran pikemans , 50 master sword mans and 2 Genies. With this army I will start the final battle.
My other choice is mission 8 when the price is Ultimate Crown witch give 4 to all stats.
So i want some advice form some old school players, witch completed the game - What to choose???
Thank you

I like Heroes II for its simplicity and for the corps that is more in character than can command.
Wish there have this thought in other parts of the heroes
