Heroes 6 SOD campaigns: Necropolis walkthrough and questions

I wanted to start a thread dedicated to this campaign as I see no other on this board. Wanted to share opinions and such...

I'm finishing Vein's campaign and I must say it's fun to play, and the maps are cleverly designed. They are a bit harder then vanilla, but not that much (I'm playing on Hard). The devs definitely learned they're lessons as each map brings something new (especially the 1st and 3rd maps were interesting).

I wonder how you guys find the dialogs because quite frankly, in my Polish version of the game, they're a bit of a mess. The worst of all is that they changed Sandro's voice which was very nice in Danse Macabre. Not to say their bad, but I get the feeling that they were meant to have more sense then they have :/

Pro tip: invest some points in Air Magic. Later in the campaign you're be able to recruit various Elementals, and to be exact Air Elementals (especially in the last map). The most important skill to take is Thunderclap. Why? Air E's have Air based attacks so in addition to doing dmg they can give the "Dazed" effect to enemy units. In the course of the campaign you get a set that with 4 artifacts (from the set of course) gives you +1 turn to the "Dazed" effect. Throw in Cleave+Storm Arrows and Boom! Air E's are fast, so their attack will pulverize a big chunk of A.I. units before they even make a move, and additionally will reduce the said units initiative. Talking about OP

Note that the fourth map may seem nearly impossible if you rush the Elemental shrines and bosses.

I tried to go for the Eel with just water Elementals for example, and made it (thank you regeneration and meditation) but here's how you really do it:

- Build marketplace and capitol ASAP
- Get to the middle of the map. Bring Zakera too, her diplomacy skills will serve you well.
- Approach the elementals standing in a circular formation around the middle. They are all friendly but may require payment to join you. (So approach them with Zakera to vastly reduce the costs).
- After picking up several elementals (by paying) the war horn artifact will appear. Blow it at the different crystal formations (ak, equip it on a hero and then right click) to summon 50 champion creatures of the corresponding element. From Spider lady to Phoenix and Seraphs. Go around the map, pick these up and you should be fine in any battle. However: I recommend you put the champion creatures on Zakera and let her kill off the Children of Urgash heroes that eventually start roaming the map. This will keep them fairly safe for when you need them most.
- When doing the Earth shrine, use only elementals (I used water and earth, plus some shadowpanthers from the menagerie) that are fairly durable. Do not use you champion units cause you will lose A LOT of them. Save champion units for when you battle bosses and use elementals (that are replenishable and durable) for the rest.

Good advice Seddy. There are also many additional "friendly" elementals in various places of the map to boost your troops. But then again, I had a lot of fun with beating three necro heroes (Water element part of the map) with just my starting troops + 20 additional air elementals which joined me. Cleave+Storm Arrows+Thunderclap and a Lightning spell as a bonus (I had a nice Spellpower though) made it possible. After that about 100 Water Elementals joined me so it was enough to literally obliterate every neutral stack on the map (with their Ice spell). After that I cleared the map some more, while adding some other neutrals in the process. You'll need a lot of cash in this map, around 10000 gold for every stack of friendly Elementals (not counting those you'll get for free in the Elemental zones). Zakera will probably help in reducing the prices, but I didn't have her (probably because I choose the blood path). I attacked the bosses only when I had around 100 units of each Elemental (plus one stack of Champions). It's enough to beat those bosses. All in all if you invested enough time in past three maps to build up Vein enough (I had around 45 atk and def + strong Air Magic) this map is a breeze (I played on Hard)...

Oh yeah: Sidenote on the "drink o not drink Zakeras blood": If you drink you get a 1-time +2 might attack  and direct blood path I think. BUT: If you say no each time, you get a total of +3 might def and +50 tear points. I'd say that for rushing reasons, tear is better as the reduction is HUGE in price = allows for rushing dem elementals quicker. Also it makes the third map a breeze, cause it eliminates almost all enemy troops through diplomacy/a cutscene.

Question: How does one really beat the Avatar of the Void? (You get a pre-set army, so no need to conserve troops before it)For now, the 8% of max hp regeneration and constant dmg is enough to keep me somewhat at bay, whilst my numbers slowly dwindle. The duration doesn't seem to go down, got any tips?

I'm afraid I cannot give you that much of an advice (because my success in this battle was probably based on my version of Vein attributes and spells)...

I just threw everything I got on it, occasionally changing my units position as to not recieve dmg from those void rifts. I think the key in my case was high morale and luck as it maximized the dmg output. It's a good idea to cast Storm Arrows on Fate Weavers, because altough their base dmg is reduced by the barrier, bonus dmg from the spell is not. You must remember to make the first attack in each turn with the weakest unit or your hero basic attack (when not casting spells) because the first attack always does zero dmg to the Avatar.

Most important units in the battle are Fate Weavers (ranged dmg) and Black Dragons. I was casting Storm Arrows whenever I had a chance on Fate Weavers. It was also important that I casted Reinforcements on them in the first turn (more attack dmg plus more dmg absorption from void rifts). Blackies seem to be immune to most of Avatars abilities so they are the slowest melee units to loose their numbers (making them the strongest dmg maker in your army, especially with lucky strikes). And remember to resurrect Dragon Wrights for the purpose of making them cannon fodder...

I agree that the barrier is most troublesome (as it regenerates 20000 dmg) so for the couple of turns I was going in circles (the dmg output made with my remaining units was lower then Avatars regenerated health). I thought that I was a goner. But around turn 23 he stopped making it (it seems you have to endure for those 23+turns). I was left with only around 90 Fate Weavers and 40 Black Dragons but it was enough to finish it.

I've beat the Avatar in my first battle so I'm not sure if he stops making the regenerative barriers around turn 23 in each battle, but in my case it did.

PS: Boss achievements when fighting the Avatar are probably the hardest to get in this game in any Boss Battle. I didn't get any of those two, and I'm not willing to repeat this battle anytime soon

Stuck on Map1 - Lord Vein

Hello, I'm stuck on map 1. Lord Vein needs to destroy the catapults, I go through the portal, destroying all of them, but it is a one-way portal and I can't go back. Meanwhile, a red hero comes by ship, goes to my settlement, captures it and the game is over for me. If I stay close to my settlement, the time limit to destroy the catapults ends and it is game over again. Please tell me how to complete the map? Thank you a lot in advance.

Simply build an upgraded Town Portal (and use Advanced Town Portal spell with Vein) in your town to get back whenever you need. There is enough time to destroy all the Catapults even if you go back a few times...

Stuck on map 2 of Necro Camp.
Does anybody have any tips about last two battles inside Anastasya's mind? I have finished Kiril with "minimal" loses in my opinion. I lost only 55 ghouls keeping all skeletons  a whole 41 -_- and over 100 ghosts. When I get to fight with Anastasya's reflection she obliterates me with spells and I don't even get to kill single stack not to mention she has lots of troops. Any tips? I have gathered all troops from buildings on the map and all magic oriented artifacts but really I can't outheal her magic dmg. Add to it unit dmg and it's annihilation. How did you guys beat that encounter? I went for dark magic with my build and it was pretty good with agony and life drain so far but it seems that without any elemental destructive spells I can't do it. I do have one lightning spell but of course it has 3 rounds cd and by that time the fight is over. Do I have to start whole campaign again and go for destructive spells in build? Or is there easy way to respecialize?

Like I said a few posts up I went for Air Magic, because of the artifact set which enhances it ("Dazed" effect). But I don't remember the fight with Anastasia giving me any trouble... Maybe your stats are low? Did you visit all possible stat boosting locations, magic defense for instance? Do you have Reinforcements? That also helps. My Vein was stat heavy, and Air Magic was a bit like a bonus, but it wasn't my main focus, I won battles mainly because of the raw power of my troops (though Storm Arrows do nice bonus dmg with Liches for instance). Dark Knight's blood path specialization also helped a bit (life drain for free )...

Haha, I felt something was amiss

Anastasya has a cameo in one of Veins campaigns maps that's why I made a wrong assumption (didn't remember which map though)...

Awesome campaign There are a few details that are not clear to me, not easy to follow all facets of the storyline unless you are paying a lot of attention. Will have to play as tears too, after I turned Zakera she pretty much disappeared until the last mission. Then there were some unclear gameplay decisions like when you visit the realm of fire and your army disappears only to reappear after you progress a bit. Not knowing that I transferred my army to Ludmilla and so Vein ended up with no army to face the boss lol But I had a save just in case. Final mission was very satisfying just like the dungeon one.

Mission 3 Inactive Spirit Gates

On Mission 3 of this campaign, I can see few buildings at the upper left corner of the map. Does anybody know how I can reach them? I can also see Two way Spirit Gates but they are not active. How I can activate them?

A little more detail? How far have you progressed? I imagine you mean top left corner of the first map?

I think you're talking about the Crag Hack secondary quest, but I'm not sure. If that quest, visit all the obelisks and the gate should open. As for getting to it, you should be able to by boat, via whirlpool.

necropolis mission 3 Bug?

I am in mission 3 where you escort mother Namtaru to the central island. I have reached there, no problem, killing 3 pirate ships and taking the other forts along the way. The cut scene played where she gets out of the ship and walks into the fort. I cleared everything on this island and swapped armies with Zakera to build up Vein and then went on hunting. The Dragon Ships objective never activated when I visited the dragon nexus,(which from reading the walkthrough is supposed to be the next objective) and nothing has come to attack the fort where Mother Namtaru sits.

I have gone on to conquer and clear all the forts on the other islands and all the gates are now open but still no other quests have activated.  The "Protect the Mother" quest still won't end even though it has been 2-3 weeks since I got her to the central fort. I can go through the final gate to continue the Odyssey quest but nothing happens.

Anyone have any ideas how to get the next steps/quests to activate? I have cleared everything and am stuck with only the two open quests, Odyssey and Protect the Mother and no where to go.

I really want to finish this campaign as it is the final one for me, but I don't want to restart this map without knowing what I should do differently to get the quests to activate. This map is a pretty time consuming slog.
Thanks.

I'm only getting through this campaign now, on the final map. I obtained all the Champion units and defeated Abyss Worm & Uriel but they killed most of my units so I guess I have to restart the map, since I doubt I can defeat the other two bosses and from what I'm reading there is also a final battle.

Is there a better order to defeat the bosses? Also, only 4 champion units appear out of my 6 stacks in battles, is there a way to fix that or I should go with two stacks of elementals instead?

Well I tried it again and I managed to finish the campaign. The boss order for me was Thunderbird, Hai Ryou, Abyss Worm and Uriel, after that everything went smooth, I killed the final boss in one take as well. A really fine campaign, it was, probably the most difficult in the whole game. Can't wait what Heroes 7 is going to bring!
