New to 5 thanks to Gog.. LF scenarios
Hi guys,
after playing HoMM3 for like 15 years I decided to move to HoMM5 TotE. And so far, it is great. I have a few questions about scenarios, maybe you can help me with that. I'm not that big fan of campaigns with set heroes and towns.. so I really depend on those scenarios.
1. I am looking for scenarios where you can choose your cities and heroes all by yourself. So no set towns/heroes as in all the official scenarios..
2. I am quite aware that I could create random maps, but where is the highscore list for those? You know, that list in HoMM3 was great with scenario name and difficulty level.
3. Where can I set the difficulty level of scenarios? I download some and the difficulty seems to be stuck at normal, which is way too easy.
4. Are there any classic maps out there for download? Like great HoMM3 scenarios converted to HoMM5?
And final question - any scenarios you can recommend that fit the criterias under 1.?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers,
Rudel

Here's my cent and a half;
You won't find near the selection of fan-maps for H5 that's out there for H3, it's not even close. The Editor in H5 can do some amazing things but it is a clunky monster compared to H3's provided-tools. i.e. Objectives = the map-maker clicks a choice from a list in H-Three but has to write a script for each one in H-Five. Needless to say, that killed a lot of fan-production.
You'll have to search the map-sites and test-drive.
I'm guessing you've not went here?

I did the same.

There's some made. I "think" I've seen recommendations here at HC and CH.

After picking SP or MP the next list should have Hall of Fame with camp & scenerio tabs. However, I make mostly FFAs and I saw none listed.

You don't have the setting-box next to your screen-name or icon at map-creation?

Sorry, not sure. I started making an H5 version of Dragon Orb but have not finished it, I got lost in creating my own stuff and trying to learn what works and what doesn't.

I came late to H5 also, so I think you'll have to search like I did. Also I play with Quantomas' "J" A.I. and I'm sure that would impair my judgment on vanilla TotE. Good luck
Btw, You may not like anything I've done but you can look here too.

Thanks for your long answer, it helped a lot.
First, I found the difficulty switch.. I was looking for it after I chose the scenario like in H3.
Sad to hear about the complex scenario in 5. I played maps like "The Battle of Daeyan's Ford" or "War of the mighty" at least a 100 times. I do not need a story mode in scenarios.. just a nice place where you can grind up your (free chosen!) race + hero and than annihilate any opposition. With H3 difficulty settings, Impossible was always a challenge. Even Hard could turn out impossible when your opponent got lucky with diplomacy (I still remember those 75 Mighty Gorgons stomping my whole army in a few turns).
I already started searching M4H and Kartenarchiv, but in most cases you play with a set town and follow a storyline. That's not what I'm looking for.
As far as I understand the high score list, there is none for Multiplayer or Random Maps. I think it was pretty cool to try and beat yourself on that list, getting a Black Dragon icon next to your name. So I think I need some scenarios that match the above mentioned somehow to achieve that.
Anyway, thanks for your help!

Did you patch your game to version 3.1, yet?
By using the update function within the installation folder of Ubisoft/Might and Magic Heroes 5, the function will go onto the internet and download the proper patch for you(so do not have to go, yourself, online and search for it for hours long to find the proper patch for your country's edition of the game).
Plus, we, experienced players of MMH5:T.o.t.E. v.3.1 have used quite a bit of modification files to put in the UserMods folder in order to polish the game way further. Go in the Forum thread of Heroes 5's Modders Shop to find all kinds of very useful mods.
I suggest finding the mods called 'Arenas Plus' and, 'Unlock all Heroes'. And, some mods suggests a complete overall improvement in the graphical appearance of the map's natural environment + art looks of everything else. A lot more of these mods suggests replacing entire factions into another made-up types that have been customized by such modder in question.
Furthermore, its RMG allows you to make the most of its features. It allows you to make all sizes of maps with or without water(archipelago and continental types according to the size of the map). The RMG allows you to chose the faction you want by letting you chose how many players can be placed on the map you already chosen in size. Check the Players box, go down the page and, chose player one to eight, then click on that word saying random, it will open a list of factions for you to chose from. Click onto the button create, wait for the progress bar to finish the editing of the map where the name is, for you to type in as your own map creation(I, myself, get to put the date of it in order to know how often I play the game in a week or month).
Now, please, have fun with this awesome game that could last for a decade or more to come.

Thanks!
I will check the mod section. The Gog version was already patched to 3.1.
Strange to see that there is absolutely nothing going on here. People are still talking about H3 though..

H3 is a Classic, so much so that is yet fun to play. <imo> Three's longevity (and H4)is based on the "tools" supplied with the game and all the fans that have made use of them. This is not the only reason but <imo> its always of monumental-importance for overall fan-satisfaction. Look no further, than it's possible to link H1-H4 in different aspects.
H5 made it much harder for the majority of Map-makers, Modders, Story-tellers, etc. and then was followed shortly by H6. Many HoMM-fans hoped the H6 Map & Camp-editors would be more like H3's; however they appear less user-friendly than H5's.
Work on Five continues and I've seen more activity on H5-boards lately, so there's Hope that we can have a couple of Classic HoMMs

You can just use the RMG for maps. It might not be balanced most of the time but it's perfect for what you want. I stopped digging for scenarios long ago.
