make sure that WoG is always at the bottom of the enabled mods. Then platforms as wog revised or sod must be over it, and only then, the other mods. Loading priority matters.

When I launch ERA through Mod Manager or manually, nothing happens. I see the hourglass very briefly, but the game won't start, no error code or anything.

How you expect Era to start when you enabled 90 mods at once? Only one scenario can be activated and then add additionally graphics/interface/cheats mods.

I didn't realize there was a limit. My current Skyrim game has 181 mods, I'm level 84 now, no crashes or anything.

Skyrim is a 2014 game. At the time Heroes 3 was released, the gigabyte didn't even exist, so of course you are limited in many locations. Maps folder, scripts size (3 MB max), etc.

I disabled a bunch of mods, still no movement.
What's the purpose if you can only play one mod of the 62ish?

Man, you can play many mods at once. But mods tagged as scenarios are coding maps locations, so you can't have more than one at once. Then you add to them interface, cheats, graphics, etc. The goal is not to play as many as possible, but play what you need, like in Skyrim, except that Skyrim has 36000 mods and Era 120, ok?
Now if you still can't start, then you have a problem, maybe your windows settings, enable administrator rights, disable DEP, install Heroes in C: drive, not in Program Files and so on.

It seems the WOG options are not applied to my current game. When I start ERA, everything is "standard" HOMM3. No extra abilities, commanders, etc.
Yes, I enabled them in the WOG options and saved the file.

Well, it depends on the mods you are using. If you play a scenario, there are chances it prohibits all other scripts, that is what scenarios are made for. First start era with only wog mod enabled and commanders option enabled. If you see now commanders in the game, means your install is correct and all other changes/restrictions may come from the additional mods you enabled later.
For example, Safe sod mod is removing all era scripts and graphics, this is its purpose, and I see in your screen sod is activated. Read infos about your mods first.

Save wog settings under unique name, not "settings.dat".
In Era's virtual file system Mods/WoG/settings.dat will overwrite the file you created (Heroes3/settings.dat).

if you play with HD mod, make sure you start the correct exe
you have to CREATE the HDversion of era/homm exe first before you can pla it. What was the name of the exe you started?

is you start/play that as it is in the screesnshot, you will get the 800x600 version. you need first to create the h3eraHD.exe by creating it via the create HDexe button. Then chose the h3eraHD on the dropdownbox in hdmod and press play. should start the correct version.
