Get rid of the AI? Opponent Controlled Neutrals

I love HOMM III. I'm definitely a novice compared to most people here, but one thing that bugs me is that so much "skill" in the game comes from knowing how to abuse the AI.

I can't imagine I'm the first person to wonder about this, but searching was unsuccessful in finding any info. I guess my question is, does anyone else think it would be beneficial if neutral units were controlled by the opponent instead of the AI? If so, is this even possible to implement (I know I have zero clue if it's just really hard, or impossible to do.)

Was going to add a poll... but can't quite figure out how to do that on here.

Ghost mode in Heroes V works really nice, you can take a control of neutral creatures and make some fun with other player during battles so why not do the same for Heroes III
I'm worried this would be very difficult but maybe in VCMI could be possible?

I wonder how much this would change the endfight. If I control the neutral units against the opponent, I'm going to know a lot more about his main hero prior to the endfight. This may eliminate a lot of the tactics and unknowns particular to the best part of the game. I may also get a good view about which of us is currently stronger, leading me to accelerate or delay my attack. But I hear you that relatively easy AI manipulation may play too major a role in the game to its detriment.

Ah, yes you raise a good point which I completely overlooked. We need a 3rd neutral human to control the neutral creatures obviously!

This idead could work with together with a different idea.

Lets imagine a guy only loves to battle. He would be able to enter the battle mode, and the game will put him into random games battles  and he will battle as npcs.
