By changing the main list of campaigns which includes also the list of scenario maps (better way) or by simple exchange-modding

There is no tutorial for that. If you wanna do it, you should find "Campaigns" file (IIRC it is in GameMechanics) and change directories or even add some new. Replacing is IMO more difficult. You should put your map files in the same directory and with the same names as the original scenario maps.

Browse/search your game folder and you will find a folder called campaigns.

Oh, man... there is much more to do. I can't tell u now what to do, but what I know is that you must find files that describes campaigns (capaign.xdb or whaterver like this) and where are given directories to campaign maps (/Maps/Scenario/CXMX/map.xdb). If you find it, what you have to do is to replace old directories to these of your maps, what more, you can add new maps to existing campaigns (not more than 5 in each) and even add new campaigns (I'm not sure but I think there can'
t be more than 6 campaigns)!

i see, so far all ive done, aside from editing, has been placing the maps in the folders called C1M1 etc.
there really isnt a tutorial for this?
in the \data\Campaigns folder i see files called C1, C2, C3 etc and they are XLB files, are these the ones?

.xdb files, yes, but the names of your maps' files must be the same as game map files (GroundTerrain.bin, UndergroundTerrain.bin, Map.xdb, Map-tag.xdb, MapScript.xdb, MapScript.Lua).
The rest of files is unneccesary. Skip them and them put the rest of your map files in the folder. This method is worse but if you don't know how to find and edit main campaigns file, use it.
Good luck

i kept the names of the maps what they were when i opened them.
when im editing anything i always keep it the same name even if its saved in a different location.
so what file do i need to change to tell the game to use MY map versions?
also whats a good program to use to edit XLB files? notepad doesnt look like it wants to "strange because i used to edit the game all the time"

About #1, I'm curious, have you tried using the Campaign editor? It looks like it will at least let you "select your maps and name the campaign"?
On 2, I use notepad but have to open the map with 7zip 1st.
