dont want to leave those H3 players in the cold
We still dont know when homm4 patch comes out, so as long as its unknown, we keep toh running for homm3. So far activity in ToH gaming is still at its peak, there has been no slowdown. But I expect it to slow as we move into the next two weeks.
Whats nice though, is we get to play the game for a while, to tweak homm4 clans and such appropriately for a game we barely know.

So much for being a rookie
Well, I got the HOMM3 trilogy for Christmas as a gift. I'd never played it and didn't even know when it was released. So I have been playing my way through it against AI, learning the tricks and trying to get myself ready for a foray online, when I find this place just as HOMM IV is introduced.
Well, so much for mixing it up online with a few you for long. I suspect the III games will dry up fairly quickly. Looks like I'll have to get IV if I ever want to get some online gaming going.
Cheers

Looks like they made a crap game here w/tons of system requirements.
A LOT of people will be playing H3 for a long time it seems.

Disappoined
The truth is i am Disappointed with Heroes IV. It doesn't have multiplayer (as it was discussed), graph is not great, bugs and other stuff.
Another thing I dislike is the animation. Most of the walking troops move on the battlefield like they are constipated or have something up their a$$.

Cast Mass Stool Softener and that will clear right up.
But it creates a quicksand like effect in Round 2 of the battle.

i think that Heroes IV is much much better than Heroes III .. mabye not to fast like Heroes 3 .... byt if u play alot you will be faster .... its more interesting .. it have good things ( caravans ... vials ... fog... new magic , tavern is more rich whit heroes ...ect ) mabye i like h4 more bacause there is mix of couple of games : Diablo, Warcraft .....
my version never happend to crash...i got athlon 1400 gforce mx200 (64 mb ram) 256 ram .. creative audio card
and is not like cartoon ! if u pyt 1280*1024 the game looks amaizing!
P.S after playing 6-7 hours H4 .. i lunch homm3 ... play 15 minutes .. and quit the game .... H4 is better

hiyas all
only one thing 2 say from here i LOVED HOMM 1_2-3 but now forget about it
The bottom line is that the changes to the HOMM system have produced a game that's a lot more like a fantasy wargame than a strategy boardgame, yet the boardgame origins hold it back and become a liability. The added features of HOMM4 do add some depth to the game, but at a disproportionate cost in game flow. The synthesis to this crazy gaming dialectic is that the gameplay feels diluted. You can take that Hegelian mixed metaphor for what it's worth, because for me, the magic is gone. And the might, and the heroes, etc. ITS SO SAD

There is always a risk when you mess with a winning formula, that you may alienate some of your original fans of the game. I personally like the changes that were made. I feel that players will have a stronger connection to their heroes. I know I take it personally when my heroe goes down in battle. I also like the added strategies involved, in having your heroe take part in physical combat.
Anyone else feel the same?

Hi
I played heroes4 for about 3 hrs yesterday (finally got it!!) and I was disappointed, even though i was advocating giving it a chance. A few things I dont like are the combat animations, it seems hard to tell what is goin on there. The graphics seem fine, not an improvement or a downslide and i dont mind so much my hero being in the fight.
The thing that really got me was the simplification of the heroes. In heroes3, most of the personality of the game came from what hero you managed to use as main, it was good to see them develop and watch their specialty increase in effectiveness especially heroes like Tazar, Crag etc. Now that is gone, if you choose a lord hero, they are all the same. You can develop their skills differently, but in the end, when you are playing multiplayer, you are using 1 hero for the final fight 90% of the time. I dunno if they tried to increase the roleplaying parts of the game, but to me, so far the seem to have depersonalized it. It might grow on me, I hope so, but first impressions arent great.
Just your friendly heroes4 newbie.

Hi kehnon. Nice to see you post here. Im 100% agree with you.. homm4 will never reach the hights of homm3. Inside i just still hope that "something", just "something can suprise me and convince me that this game is worth spending 100+ hours on.. sofar i havent touched it for about +1 week now... so lots of time for ToT
