Excuse me for continuing the "how to treat modders" topic, but does it mean that we shouldn't tell other people that some ideas in our opinion just don't fit HoMM3 universe? No one actually used words like "It sucks" etc., so honestly I have no idea what "constructive and polite criticism" is in that case. Does it mean we can't say we don't like some ideas and we just have to either praise them or leave?

it is not anyone's place to say what does and doesn't belong, as what does and doesn't belong is objective in nature. it's the same thing as saying, "your ideas do not belong in this forum". at least, it can be taken that way. it isn't wrong of someone to come up with an idea for what they would want to add, for personal use or otherwise.

someone did use the words "it sucks". revolution did. he said so here:

revolut1oN said:
I can say that Doom town sucks imo and its none of your business.

but before that, trith said certain things introduced into heroes would be ridiculous. he said so here:

Trith said:
Let me tell you one thing. Things like DOOM, F.E.A.R., StarCraft, Final Fantasy or Skyrim  factions are bad-to-ridiculous ideas. I could elaborate on reasons of my point of view, but I won't, for now at least.

whether he explained what he said later, he didn't change this post. a newbie reading this post, and revolution's, might be hesitant to post their own ideas, for fear of some people here ridiculing them. and it is not only "their problem"(from what someone else said), as it becomes a growing issue when people, especially a younger audience who might be seeking acceptance, are turned away from the forum, or modding heroes, because of this. that would mean that the modding community here rules over all ideas, and only THEY will dictate what is allowed, as far as ideas go. you see the point i'm trying to make now? it may seem simple to some, but it could lead to no introduction of new, fresh, or better ideas than what is currently available in the modding community now.

one can know the difference between constructive criticism and rudeness by reading the first post in this thread, as i spelled it out there.

by no means, does everything need to be praised, i'm not saying that at all. what i AM saying(and i'm not alone here), is that people could use a more graceful manner to express their views, and EXPLAIN why they think so, so that it is an opinion they are expressing, and therefore cannot be construed as a slight against anyone, which is against the CoC, as well as the community as a whole. stifling ideas is the last thing one should want to do with someone, especially in a game modding subforum. if anyone thinks someone posting an idea is misguided, then GUIDE them, but don't be rude to them. that's all i'm saying, hobbit. i'm not trying to turn hc into a place where people are stumbling over niceties, what i'm trying to do is make it a more pleasant environment for creativity.

Edit: thanks for the catch, joonas. i can't be on point all the time.

I support people being able to say whatever they want. If someone insults you, don't file a complaint. What is this, kindergarten?

strike what i said before. this is like playing verbal whack-a-mole.

if this place was kindergarten, there'd be more people forced to be nice, miru. this isn't kindergarten. what it IS, is people on the internet thinking they can be as rude as they want, because they think they are anonymous. they aren't. they're just rude.

i would be all for people saying whatever they want anywhere on earth, be it face-to-face, OR on the internet, AS LONG AS THEY COULD PROPERLY FACE THE C0NSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS.

the internet shouldn't be a haven for people to say whatever they damn well please just because someone isn't physically there to break their face if they cross a line. it's the equivalent of insulting someone from relative safety, behind the back of someone the insulted would have to bash with a hammer in order to get to the pipsqueak actually insulting them.

being nice keeps things civilized, and welcomes people into the community, instead of driving them away.

i really can't believe i have to continually explain this.

I recall seeing people posting mods and getting told it doesn't fit well with the general theme.

I think it ought to be assumed if someone is spending time working on something, it's because said person think it does fit, or doesn't care if it doesn't. I mean it's like showing someone the awesome work you just did, and in stead of getting a response like "hey event X doesn't seem to work", or "if you do this to event Y then you can get the thing you want even more neatly", the response is "all you just made was a complete waste of time".

I think that constructive criticism requires something to work on from, so it is not enough to say it does not fit, without at least why it does not fit and what can be done about it, but I think the whole "doesn't fit" idea is kind of misdirected, because I'd be surprised if someone made a mod they'd agree with doesn't fit, or didn't already know, and made it anyway.

Bashing somebodies ideas is the worst thing that could possibly happen. The best possible way to disagree with somebody is to provide constructive criticism especially online where we lack the face to face interaction. People online take everything said with how it is worded which is, essentially, the only way one can take something on here. It's a shame but that's the way it is. Humour gets lost on many and there are so many misunderstandings it's ridiculous.

Basically Fred, disregard the people who only go out of their way to insult you. I know this reply is a bit late but the best way to go about these things is just keep doing your thing. Never let anybody ever knock you down. This is only online after all. You don't know these people and they don't know you. It's a shame because, ultimately, they are the ones going to miss out because they don't take the time to get to know you because all they want to do is bash you or bash another persons idea.

It would be good if everybody could get along with one another but with so many people on this site and with so many differing views, it's impossible. Just don't let it ever get to you because this is only online. You might have friends here and so on but never let it get anymore than that. Never let anybody get to you or be able to hurt you. It's a fine line if you start to get semi attached here but it's one you need to learn.

Keep doing what you're doing, never let anybody get the better of you or let them get to you and just keep doing your thing. People who have nothing but negativity to say aren't worth being listened to anyway.
