What happens when you're tired?
So ladies and gents. This thought popped into my head recently.
What exacly happens when the body is tired?
I do not mean when you are mentaly exhausted from playing Starcraft 2 for 72 hours straight as this Korean dude did before he died.
Nor do I mean when you have been lifting and running the whole day and your muscles need to rebuild.
Sometimes you just feel tired. Sure, it may be a bit late in the night but not terribly late. And your body feels tired too. It's not that you couldn't get up and go for a run, in fact sometimes that helps, it's just that you really, really can't be bothered.
That type of tiredness when you fall asleep really well.
What happens to the body then? Why does it need rest?

Mind over matter, yer damn feelings are making you feel like yer weak and tired, while in fact you might be quite the opposite in reality.

When I feel tired I try to get the perfect sleep hours, arount 7-8. Neither oversleep (I would feel tired again) nor few sleep. When I do that I usually wake up feeling really great.

Yup that's how you should roll. If you go to far or even barely sleep one night you get into a really bad cycle where you can't sleep and I think that's how some people get addicted to sleeping pills.
But that's klinda obvious.

Naaaah, I used to go without sleep for 4-7 days at a time every few months when I was younger. It just came naturally to me.

That's a good point. No idea if you're bullsnowting me now or not since it just seems ridicilous. But what ever, it doesn't matter.
I could skip a nights sleep without a problem when I was like 14-15. Now I can't (I'm around 25). How come?

Because now we're old and tired.
Somewhere around 23-22 I stopped feeling like I needed to do it. Now I do have times I feel like staying up for 2-3 days like, every half-a-year.
