How do I get my mod to work?
Hi guys, I followed the steps from Mod Wiki.
First, edit Peasant's gold cost from 15 to 5.
Then, placed it in folders.
GameMechanics, which contains, Creature folder, which has Creatures folder, which has Haven folder, which has Peasant.xdb. Then made the GameMechanics folder to .pak and placed it in HoMM 5/dataa1 folder.
However, I can't get my mod to work. What am I doing wrong. Please help me.

What programme did you pack your mod with?
What settings did you have?

I packed the GameMechanics folder using winrar (and since it didn't work, tried 7-zip too) and packed it to .rar, .zip or .7z. Then renamed it to .pak.
None worked.

Are you sure you have settings in 7-zip like here?
Then, as the file is in dataa1 folder, do you open the game via bina1/H5Game.exe?

no. it won't let me convert it to .pak right away. I have to convert it to .zip first then open archive the .zip file and save it to .pak.
Also, what's in bina1 is Hammers of Fate. I'm playing Tribes of the East, latest patch.Yes, I placed it in dataa1. I also tried placing it to datals but nothing work.
PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO HELP ME!!.

Try putting your mod in data folder without packing it to .pak (.zip) archive. If it works, it means that you are not creating valid archive. If it doesn't, than there is something wrong with your mod.
Also isn't there something like dataa2? It should be for Tribes of the East? (I'm not sure about this, because I have stand-alone TotE)

no there's no dataa2 folder.
Sigh, I tried everything. It doesn't work after putting it in the data folder unpacked.
I re unpacked the two data.pak, both the one located in bina2 and data folder outside bina2, changed the Peasant file. Gold cost changed to 5 and placed it on dataa1, datals and data folder (and the data in bina2 just in case) but nothing works.

This sucks...
All I want is to change Nur to Maahir in Academy's tavern heroes or initial hero selection for Academy.
And Yrbeth to Thralsai for Dungeon.
Hey, if someone can do that for me, I would be so greatful. I'll be your best friend. Please?!!! Pretty Please?!!!

Get to Nur, Maahir, Yrbeth and Thralsai's .(AdvMapHeroShared) xdbs and replace their values which means complete exchanging heroes
If you are playing Tribes of The East why didn't you put your mod exactly in the data folder, then?
dataa1 is used ONLY for HoF and bina1 is the folder where there's HoF's .exe file.
Please send me your mod (can be via email) and I gonna check what's wrong

the problem with exchanging the values is that it might change the campaign and scenarios as well. Thralsai has a big part in campaigns. It would be awkward seeing Yrbeth in a male voice.
I have one theory though. Everyone who's marked false on scenario are tavern heroes while true are heroes not found in the tavern. Maybe that's it?
But first, I'm doing a very very simple mod right now just to see if modding works.
All I'm doing right now is change the peasant gold cost from 15 to 5. The file I used is exactly fresh from extraction of the original .pak file. And yes, I tried putting it in the ToTe data folder. It didn't work.

You'd also have to change Default heroes sets for factions for the tavern and lists of heroes acting on maps. That's why exchangin Thralsai and Yrbeth is a way simpler thing - unless you play campaign of course. But who plays modded campaign?

did you try putting the mod in the UserMods folder? .zip should work there
