So do I. I can confirm this happens semi-frequently. It's very subtle however. I don't notice unless it hapens right in front of me.

Somehow that gave me the image that you sit idle by in the train, just minding your own business, comfortably at your seat.
A woman sits next to you, just an ordinary girl, nothing very special about the situation. She's also just minding her own business.
After a breath taking romantic encounter the two of you part as friends.
Then suddenly a MAN arrives at the scene! He goes up to the woman and starts hitting her with a bat, the woman falls down from her seat, she lies on the ground while he keeps on hitting her.. and you just sit there, calmly thinking to yourself: "I've now noticed that woman do indeed get assaulted on trains, interesting."

friendofgunnar said: Regarding female only public transpo, I am +10 in favor of that. 95% of the obnoxious behaviour on public transpo comes from men. This includes smelling horribly, leering and groping, playing music loudly, being drunk and rude, and being contagious. Anybody who's been in a city knows the people that ride buses and trains come from the bottom echelons of society. They're frequently homeless or 1 or 2 steps away from it. More importantly though THEY ARE IMMUNE TO WHAT THE REST OF SOCIETY THINKS ABOUT THEM. There is no way to shame them into behaving properly, and for the people on the crazy end of the spectrum there is no way to punish them into behaving properly.
If you live in a city and your goal is to increase ridership (because you want to unclog the roads and reduce pollution and create a cost-effective transpo system), providing an environment for women that's free of all these things is pretty much required. The only question really is how far you go. In the worst cases the only solution is female-only transit.
Man, your country must have some wild buses! Here, if a woman points to someone on a bus and shouts "pervert" the other men in the bus will must probably beat him up real good and throw him out. Still groping and similar stuff sometimes happens. Needless the say, segregation of that kind is a very sensitive issue here, since you have hardcore conservative Muslims demanding separate transport, separate beaches, separate schools, separate tables at restaurants. The secular half of the country (and the rather moderate Muslims, to a degree) are very much against it, of course and they see it as reversing almost hundred years of social reform. I guess, in more rural areas people do sit separeted in the bus by reflex and when you buy a ticket for longer travels from city to city, the custom is to ask you if the ticket is for a male or a female so they place you accordingly. (Only on buses though, not on planes. I guess because, plane travel wasnt very common until recently, it was expensive and upper class dont care if woman sits next to man, so the custom didnt catch on for planes.)
The way I see it, segregation is never the correct answer and separation only deepens the miscommunications and the issues between genders. The way to teach men how to respect women is by making them spend more time with them, not the opposite.

Under the condition that women keep quiet and do whatever we ask them, obviously. Be more precise next time, please.

since both feminism threads are still locked, i'm posting this here:
domestic violence by sexes, and how people respond to it
because, wtf. and, i seem to remember people arguing against this very thing...
@ cor: yeah, it's a soup sandwich in the white house. but, it's always been a soup sandwich. too many people trying to control things, too many people wanting to get ahead. the more people involved in something, the more there are going to be mixed messages, and misinformation.
think of it like this:
have you ever played the child's game, where you get a group of people sitting in a circle, and one person whispers a message to the person next to them, that gets passed around the circle? and when that message makes it all the way around and back to the originator, how it is never the same as what they said in the first place?
now, instead of a circle, make it a network of people. all with different agenda's, all with different clearances, all trying to control one another, in order to ultimately control the public masses.
that's what government is, when you DON'T have just one evil p.o.s. making all the rules, and enforcing them with murder and terror.

Its just the same butt stupid advertising mentality as these:-
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/06/raj-shetye-the-wrong-turn-bus-rape-photo-shoot_n_5651707.html
http://www.slrlounge.com/vogue-italias-appalling-insensitive-domestic-violence-fashion-photo-shoot/
The advertising annoys me, because mostly its just so damn awful you wonder how the hell it got passed censorship. Even these highly paid marketing types get it really really wrong. And they all deserve a real butt kicking and shaming for it.
But the social experiment I have seen before, and the public's reaction pretty much goes the same way all the time. People are still unsettled and disturbed by the female on male violence but they don't appear sure how to deal with it. Obviously the more we educate ourselves about it all, the better people's reactions may become if they witness any form of domestic violence.

didn't appear sure how to deal with it? they laughed about it, and pointed it out to people, so that they wouldn't miss the "show". it was a joke to them. i'd say they knew how to "deal" with it just fine. per popular belief and training, anyway.
that aside, those two ads disgusted me. one, because i hate fashion. two, because i hate fashion designers thinking they can spread awareness through their stupid ads for their stupid clothes. and three, because they trivialize violence, by tying violence into a snowing fashion ad.
nice how they were all wearing make-up, though. if you ask me, if they wanted to get a message across, they could show crime-scene photos of REAL abuse aftermaths. just like how they show abused animal and starving children commercials(which i also hate. i don't need any more reminders of how snowed up people are).
leave it to fashion, to try and make horror look good.
there is a single, specific word for what they are doing when making ads like that, and that word escapes me at the moment... maybe someone could fill in the blank?

Lol, it's a Turkish commercial but I've never seen it anywhere before. It must be only playing on the internet, not on any TV. Not any national TV, anyway.
The first commenter in Youtube page points out the obvious, since it's not the feminists who made or supported this video, it would be meaningless to talk about THEIR double standard. Other than that, in fiction, a woman beating a man is used for a humorous effect more because people seem to take it less seriously and they automatically perceive it as hyperbole.
Violence used like this is a matter of debate in general, we had another commercial where there are two TV sets, one man says to the other, "all the qualifications for these two are the same, only this one is a famous brand, so it's double the price, which one will you buy?" the other guy replies, "the famous brand of course" and suddenly the first slaps him crazy, trying to knock some sense into him. There was a reaction and complaints about this plot and they pulled the commercial back.
I think, if it's obviously humorous and unrealistic, these scenes shouldn't be a big deal in general. When it's done to a woman, it's harder to see it as humor though because it's a much bigger and spread out social problem, so the argument of "don't feed the norm" comes in. Just like you can see a junkie doing a needle on TV but they blur any cigarette in the mouth, cause millions smoke and only a few are junkies.

Yeah but we aren't talking about that right now. We are talking about the likelihood of a professional woman in her 20's, being overcome with such tremendous lust for some geriatric peen, that she risks her entire career to give him a hand job whilst he has a bath.
Excuse me while I laugh ....... Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ooh *fall off chair* ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Yeah right.
Do you have any idea what geriatric peen looks like?? Its not nice and I have yet to come across a woman in her 20's who (without the lure of extreme wealth) cannot control herself around it.
