In my not very humble opinion Ashan's lore can be saved and they have taken steps in bettering it. Can it get its personal gimmick? Not sure, but it isn't always necesary, there are settings out there, that are doing fine without it. Forgotten Realms and Westeros being some of the primary examples.* To be honest, Enroth did fine without any special gimmick. The whole sci-fi aspect worked in MM games, but was utterly unnecessay in HoMM and NWC tottaly failed in implementing it... there are a ton of ways how Forge could have be done better.
*The extremely long seasons barely counts because it bary affects the story or anything, at most its a minor flavor thing. And the series is not known for that.

JJ 12+ requirement isn't big problem here. I can name quite formidable list of cases where no one gives a crap about PG. Btw, H6 had a couple of dirty jokes and usings of bad language, so they're on the track.
However I wholly agree about Comic book, it's definitely a wasted potential. I would have bought it if it were selling in my country. It actually even contains sexual scenes if I'm correct.
Anyway, I have high hopes about Ashan after Legacy, DoC and HO. It has a huge potential imo (ofc most old-time fans would be pleased only with the return of Ancient universe), especially after Marzhin became writer. Newcomers and those who played from H5 do enjoy it. Not mentioning that majority of players don't even follow the lore (that rises question why Ubi care so much about it).

Of course it has potential. It is the scene for H6, which obviously is the game with the biggest potential that ever existed!
In fact it seemed to be a game made solely out of potential. And for potential's sake, haha!

Yeah, and while H5 is viewed as "poor" plot-wise in general, after it there're people who enjoy Ashan and who not. And I won't wear judge's dress and say which side has majority.
Btw, do not judge a potential by "years spent".

As if those didn't already exist way before Twilight.

Pretty Vampires started with Bram Stoker and LeFanu (Carmilla) and were actually popularized by Anne Rice's novels (one of them being Interview with Vampire).
Some settings give you both the pretty and monstrous: Warhammmer, Fantasy, the different clans of Vampire The Masquerade/Requiem or even the Witcher series (There are like 5-6 different vampires in the first game for example).

The problem with the Vampire in Ashan is not that they are handsome.
If you look at the Vampires in the NWC game - they are MONSTERS, not individuals, they even change into bats while moving (at least the better ones). They get their special strength via the life-draining ability (making it a bad move to just damage them SOME only).
But they are monsters - the vampires.
Now, in Ubi-Necropolis, Vampires are NOT monsters anymore, but - lore-wise - extremely powerful individual beings. As units, however, they have been quite unexceptional (if you disregard the brokenness of certain abilities). In game terms, in HoMM 6 Liches were a lot more decisive and remarkable than Vampires and V-Knights.
And there goes my problem. If you look at HoMM 7 human faction - they suddenly pull a human being as a champion that will obviously, as a champion, be way better than the Elite Vampire - even though, if you look at the lore, giving VAMPIRES Champion status would be a lot more fitting, since THEY have the superhuman powers; think HoMM 4: how POWERFUL those T3 Vampires were.
It may look like a small thing - but it makes a lot of difference, actually, at least to me, since it goes a ways to show that things are not REALLY fitting.

And - more importantly - they go "blah!"

This is why one of my hopes for H7 necropolis was a Death knight/Vampire hybrid. A maunted vampire in the lines of H5 death knights. We got something like that, but I would much rather see this.

Overall its not even like monstrous vampires are not an option for an ashan-themed necropolis,I mean the official site does mention that there exist the monstrous akhkaru-vampires.
Sure we won't get them this time, but that might be more because of the limited amount of new models for the necropolis.

In most vampire movies, and stories in general realy, those that end up killing the pesky Vampires are mere humans. Highly skilled humans (which Swordmasters are), but human non-the less. I would immagine training for swordsmaster includes a point or two about how to dispatch those things.
Just because something has supernatural powers dosen't mean it must be champion.

I hate when people hate on Ashan. I love this game universe to be honest, and I actually think it's more climatic than the old one.
