Note-Worthy News Stories
I thought this is something that HC should have: a thread in which you can post any news stories and articles you think are worth sharing.

No contentious at all. Stevie likes them young, Xerox and a few others like them bearded, as of the rest: we are just normal.

I think I'm actually the most reticent poster with regards to sexual relationships here on HC. The pedo part is just for fun and misdirection. Or maybe it's my true nature or alter ego, who knows...

An unsettling article on Boko Haram.
An article on food waste, a subject on which it is surprisingly difficult to raise awareness. Even if you don't read it, please know that 30% of the world's food is wasted (Last I checked, the estimation of food waste in the U.S. was around 40%).
Somalia's still not politically stable. Somalia's struggle isn't particularly wide known. They lost all forms of government in 1989 and are constantly suffering tremendous tragedies due to the clan wars. They have a president right now but the whole situation is still extremely uncertain. On a side note, Infidel is a good book if anyone is looking for something to read. It's the autobiography of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a woman who was born in Somalia. Her family flees after the government dissolves and she eventually lives in Europe and the U.S. It's about religion, politics, and gender. It goes into a lot of detail about her experiences.

Thank God, it turned out to be just a rumor, what is the world coming to!
Saudi denies it may ease ban on women drivers
Under the suggestions, only women over 30 would be allowed to drive and they would need permission from a male relative, usually a husband or father, and if they lack those then a brother or son.
They would be allowed to drive from 7am to 8pm on Saturday through Wednesday and noon to 8pm on the weekend - Thursday and Friday.
The conditions also require that the woman driver wear conservative dress and no make-up, the official said.

I think they are perfectly right. Women driving in Muslim countries are definitely dangerous.

Thank you for making use of this thread, artu!
I have two more serious, depressing articles to share:
1. The Ongoing Events over the 43 Missing Students in Mexico. I cannot express how sad this is. For anyone who hasn't been following this, a group of students in southern Mexico were heading to a protest. The students were originally kidnapped by the police and then allegedly handed over to gang members who murdered them and burned their bodies...
2. Abortion in El Salvador.
When Maria Teresa Rivera suffered a miscarriage three-years ago, she was handcuffed to a hospital bed, surrounded by seven policemen, charged with murder and sent to jail.
Rivera is among hundreds of women believed wrongly jailed in El Salvador for defying a ban on abortion, accused of inducing abortions when in fact they suffered miscarriages, stillbirths, or pregnancy complications, women's rights groups say.
. . .
Abortion in El Salvador has been illegal under all circumstances since 1998, even in cases of rape, incest, a deformed foetus, or when a women's life is in danger.
El Salvador is one of 28 countries globally that prohibits abortion in all circumstances, according to the Centre for Reproductive Rights.
(I may be helping with this situation in El Salvador soon.)

I'll be moving to El Salvador in early 2015 and may be working with some of the people trying to help these women.
