Anyone Else Running Windows XP
I'm runnning Windows XP and I am having difficulty with one aspect of the game -- the mouse. Whenever I start the game (and throughout the game as well), the mouse cursor is covered with what looks like black and white garbled garbage. I can still see my cursor, but the best way that I know how to describe it is if you took a scratch-lottery ticket and only half scratched it. You can still kind of see what's underneath, but you have a lot of "stuff" in the way. This "stuff" follows my mouse around and does not affect game play in any way, with the exception that I cannot see how many turns it will take for my Crusaders (or whatever) to attack those Medusa (or, again, whatever) -- kind of annoying, but still workable.
I know that "Officially" Heroes IV does not support WinXP, but I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and possibly has a solution.
Thanks
Pent

I have no problem playing H4 under XP. Maybe you should check your graphic drivers or something.

*If* you have a tracer/trail setting
Try adjusting your pointer option's in control panel/mouse.
That's the only reason anything would "follow" your cursor.

Thanks -- I know that I don't have trailers on for my mouse, but I'll have to check my video card (Radeonn?) to see if I have to most up-to-date drivers.
Thanks for your time

it must be the xp patches - when i loaded the game all the reqirements passed. don't know why but i hardly ever do the auto-updating for windows - paranoid i guess.

The only problem I have with XP is the music/sound. However, I have heard at least several other people mention the mouse problem.

In the 'read me' file for Heroes 4 there is a statement about reducing the hardware acceleration a notch or two, to fix what you're describing.
I'll try that -- I know I have my hardware acceleration set to maximum (for Civ III, yaknow )

Heroes 4 uninstall failed - Now I can't re-install - Help!
i was having the cursor problem (see previous posts) so i uninstalled HOMM4 until I found out what was wrong. Problem is that the uninstall function didn't work 100% so now I got a corrupt 3DO file that I can't delete and won't let me re-load Heroes 4.
it says "Cannot delete data: Directory is not empty."
Try to open the file "File corrupt/unreadable...etc."
I've tried add/remove in the control panel - deleting directly from windows explorer - and disk clean-up - and still no dice.
suggestions? (please, resist posting "zany one-liners")

It worked -- I just took my Hardware Accelerator down a notch and I have a working cursor again
Thanks!

re: Uninstall problem
Ginger:
tried installing to something other than the default directory? There should be an option to put it other than (say) C:/Program Files/3DO/Heroes IV (or whatever the default is). Good luck

I have played Homm IV the last two days, 24/7 amlost.
I have not seen a single bug.
I have not had any computer problemst at all.
The game runs smoothly with the best graphics !
my system:
T-Bird 1200
512 SD-Ram
Geforce 2 pro 64 Ram
IMB 41 GB 7200 RPM UDMA 100
MSI k7t turbo
19" screen; Which is actually a little small for Homm IV I think...sighs..

I was talking about the 19" screen which is a little small for Homm IV...
But I think it's weird that people with a lot better computer than mine is having trouble with stability with the game. I haven't had a single problem !
Excpet for the fact that I think the monsters are far to small...

Huh?
Thats the simplest bug i am able to fix!!!!
Most XP cursors are 3D... so go to Start---->Settings---->Control Panel--->Mouse---->Pointers---->Pick a regular one!!!!
Easy!
P.S. Plz guys vote on the poll in the ToH section named "Mirc channel for ToH".
