Boy... they sure did MISTREAT this franchise
Old timer here, some of you might remember me from back in 2006 whining about H5 being bad...
The latest installments have been so un-memorable, it is pretty sad to say.
H5 hit a tiny peak with TotE but the game was too buggy, had too poor performance and map making was to difficult for it to grow.
Sad part is that H3 and 4 are still played even today by some of my friends and myself.
Hard to recreate that masterpiece when the studio is in for a quick cash grab and the developpers are unexperienced noobs from lala-land.
/end whine

Nah, they didn't rape it, they bought it.
they bought a virtous maiden at the slave market because her parents had gotten into money problems and sold her as a sex slave to hardcore gang bangers for 8 years straight. now that maiden is a worn out wrench.

Actually I'm surprised there aren't (many?) more like this yet. There are always people who need to whine...

The use of the word rape makes me very uncomfortable. Could we not do this, please?
Seriously, it's not cool.

I have a Heroes VI deja-vu when I read replies like this one.
Attacker: "This looks like crap."
Defender: "Oh God, wait until it's out, it's not done yet / it's a placeholder / it will surely look better when it's finished..."
Attacker: "OK, it's out and it still looks like crap."
Defender: "Oh God, wait until they patch it you whiner!"
Attacker: "They stopped patching, it's still crap, anything else?"
Defender: "Well, it had POTENTIAL!!! Next time..."
Sweet memories. Ubisoft's Heroes games have much more interesting development time than actual gameplay, that's for sure.

I agree... This thread is pointless.
This time use of "too big" words is completely superfluous.

Oh ... it's BIG words now ...
How about if post would say this: Developers MURDERED this franchise ...would this satisfy you? Or maybe they KILLED it?
Because murder is clerly less of a crime. Even tho given it's context it isn't implying actual murder is it?
It's expresion that is prety well known and is part of "internet and gaming culture" since it's beginnings. And is not to be taken in offensive way, because it's not directed towards you or me or any of people here.

To be honest Ubi wasn't the one who killed the Might&Magic games in the first place.
They took the rotting corpse and are still trying to produce something that will give them decent money. I am sure that one day they will realize that the quality can provide them gains, so I am trying to be optimistic.
Still, I don't think that use of terms like "murder"/"rape"/"butchery" in conversation about inanimate object/franchises is justified. It's a little bit too much. I DO love the M&M games, but we shouldn't trivialize previously mentioned words.

Not sure I agree, the game was turned from a love child to a quick money grab on the backs of existing fans and the reason they did not release more is because they did not make that much money in the first place.
Sad part is that this is a franchise which was actually PLAYED by a hell lot of people. Ask any gamer in their 20s - 30s at the moment, they have played this game.
Giving it to an experienced RTS - TBS developper they would have made something special.
Let's look at Magic the Gathering for a second, a game which I believe resembles quite a lot to Heroes in terms of principles (Heroes 4 was actually heavily inspired from MtG). The game is a major success and yet it lives for now 20 years. It's ingenious revitalizing of the game each year that made it stick. Heroes had that with the map-making community (and testament shows H3 maps are still played today). If the strategy element would have also been revitalized like MtG does, this thing could have been immortal.

well, H5 was good. H6 was a disaster. As for H7, I don't see it being as good as H5 but they're welcome to prove me wrong.

I would dare to say the patches made the game even worse, at least for some time.
H6 is the black sheep of the series, and let's hope it stays that way.

H-How dare you!! Heroes 6 is not the black sheep of the series at all!
It's a spin-off.

This "Ubi ruined HoMM" sentiment is a bit misplaced - H5 was a fine game by TotE, but more importantly, it was 3DO and NWC who were responsible for H4, which really was a disaster.

Ubisoft did put in the trash NWC's early work on homm5. I don't think you need to learn about the death threats concerning Forge faction, arguably the main reason why homm4 was so different.

Exactly because there isn't one.
And as far as I remember, the creators of HoMM IV said that it is the closest thing to how they've imagined Heroes should look like in terms of gameplay I guess. I am not convinced at all that series would be much better if NWC was still making it instead of Ubi. After all we just could get different kind of evil.
