H4 and Magic the Gathering

Years after years I was amazed at what a great game H4 was design and strategy wize until I discovered Magic the Gathering and realized that H4 is deeply inspired from it.

Magic is a great strategy game which favours strategy diversity above all and bringing a touch of that to Heroes has been genious by NWC.

Sadly their product was unfinished and the dream unfulfilled.

I would LOVE to play a Heroes like game where the battle is a MtG card game. That would be boss.

What part of them makes them similar? I've never played Magic the Gathering, but if it's a card game, how does Heroes 4 borrow from it in the game play aspect?

Strategy is a large part of many different games, and also, do you mean design as in the presentation of the graphics or the game's general set-up?

If you are thinking of a card game, there is, indeed, one.

Unless you thought of something else?

I didn't know that Heroes 4 had a card version. I didn't think it was received well enough to make a spinoff.

I think, though, that User okrane was talking about the computer game. I was asking if perhaps The Heroes Company took a lot of ideas from something like Magic: The Gathering when they made Heroes 4.

I'm not sure why they decided to make it so different from the rest of the series.

I remember that the card version even introduced two new alignments with two new towns. Sadly I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Really? I wonder why they never introduce things like that in one of the computer expansions. New towns are one of the things that get me excited about the next installment. I mean, they already have the idea.... Why not use it?

Ah well. Maybe they have something about those two towns in the link to the wiki page above?

Know that making cards is less expensive than developing games. Besides, people know well NWC and 3DO were at the brink of destruction at H4 and MM9.

Jonathon Bjork has announced on the official forums that the expansion for the Heroes 4 Card and Tile game will have two new towns:
The 2 new alignments will be Hope and Despair. There will be all new units, heroes, spells, and skills for these 2 new alignments. Just in case you were wondering. Just thought you might be interested to know.

A pity the Card game producers were more creative than the NWC with their expansions.

Well, as User EnergyZ pointed out, it is easier to print out a card game than it is to develop a game, in a couple different ways, really. I'm sure the addition of new factions was done to try to draw more interest to their game. It's too bad that it never gave them enough funding, in the end.
