Poll Question: 2D or 3D Townscreens ?
Since there is a lot of complaints in official blog regarding absence of 3D Townscreens in MMH7, I thought of doing a poll here.
I personally don't care much as long as there is a nice atmosphere.
So, which kind of Townscreens would favor ?

I'd prefer a little bit larger version of 3D Town Windows, which original "HVI" used to have. Like this one. And it would also have enough free space to contain all the dwellings built.

It depends on how well either is done. There have been good 2D towns and good 3D towns, and terrible ones of each as well. I mean, when praising 3D townscreens, can one really make a blanket statement when the two options presented are the H5 cities and the barebones initial H6 variation? Heck, even in H5, just being 3D didn't make the town good - yeah, Academy and Haven looked fantastic, but Inferno was awkward and Dungeon's outward-facing statues made zero sense in-universe.
I judge townscreens on a one-to-one basis, not by broad strokes of "3D > 2D".

2D made from 3D, if that makes sense.
Or 3D models on a 2D plane.

I also voted for don't care. I think both can look really good, if done right.

Ideally I'd want hologram townscreens.
I voted 2D, as I think those types of townscreens are the most engaging and memorable. I never clicked on anything in the homm5 3d model.

Prefer it like in Heroes 3. 2D screen, but with a realistic touch on it. Not the cartoony/drawing look of H6 and the coming H7.

If they could do 3D townscreens which look like 2D, it would be awesome.
Original H3 townscreens were made in 3D and it worked. Just add this third dimension for real-time effects, but keep 2D look.

This exactly. I dont want to rotate or zoom while in town, I just want to click.

i don't know. 3D with fixed perspective? would that count as a 2D or 3D townscreen since it would, in effect, be an image.
both has had fantastic (h5 haven, academy, fortress. h3 everything) and terrible (h5 rest. h6 everything) examples. If 3D ever makes a return a fixed camera would hopefully fix that terrible central pillar concept that plagued the entire h5 experience.

This, if done right (again, H3 serves for reference) would be simply perfect.

I don't think 3d looks bad,but overall I'd prefer 2d.
In H5 it was sometimes hard to really identify the buildings you've built, which is why I prefer 2d.
Although I think a 3d town with fixed camera could also work
