Why doesn't my DVD-drive register CD's?
So when ever I put a CD into my laptop it just says "Insert a DVD"
This laptop is brand new .. A lenovo Z50..
Do I have to send it back to the shop?

Well, in my experience, some high-class players such as Sony and Panasonic do not read bootleg cd's, cheap cd's printed in Bulgaria, China etc or custom cd's you burn yourself. (Then you buy a back water brand such as Goldstar for 40 bucks and it reads everything.) I have never witnessed a laptop do that though, they even read cd's from the 80's.

had the same problem with my newest laptop. this is the 2nd laptop, and the same brand. why? because "best buy" sucks the big one, that's why. don't get me started.
same problem with both dvd drives. i removed the drive completely. ****ing garbage computer. ****ing garbage software installed on it, too.
my advice? build your own. and install an operating system that works with everything right out of the box. store-bought computers aren't worth the traffic and incompetent sales(not to mention, repair) people.
and avoid "best buy" at all costs.

Yeah... soo..
1. We do not have best buy in Denmark
2. The CD's I have tried were computer games, yesterday it was H3. I have also tried regular music CDs..
3. I am not going to buy a new computer, I do not that much money.
But a seperate hard drive might be the way to go then..

i'm sure you have the equivalent there. escaping incompetence in any country is a rare thing, from what i've seen. especially when it comes to logic and/or quality vs. business sense.

Try runnning this (make sure you set up the right language for you at the bottom of the page if it does not do so automatically)
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems
If this does not help, do a little research and see if your laptop requires any additional DVD drivers, preferably on the manufacturer's website.
