i keep seeing extremely high numbers in some people's posts, for stats/creatures/resources. what is the point of having such extremely high numbers in a game? just curious as to how that would be any diffent than playing using the usual stats for HoMM3...

I don't know what means "usual stats". Every map or campaign has its own requirements and plots. A small map will be done in one week so you will have low stats. A 252x252 map will require 12 months so stats will be higher.

i understand that. i don't understand the reasoning behind abnormally high numbers for stats/levels/resources, etc. i only play huge maps myself, and i never see numbers that high(not even in regular resources after a couple months of play). the numbers i see in posts seem to be unnecessary. my point is, why would anyone have or need numbers so high, when it all equals out in the end?
15 vs 15, 100,000 vs 100,000; they're both the same. the damage done by a hit would be equal in relation to the numbers, i would think. so why use such high numbers in maps? i wouldn't imagine the battles/scenarios would last any longer. correct me if i'm wrong; i just don't see the reasoning.

Well, there are maps and maps. Some maps as random you will have regular armies. Some maps as custom you will have millions. Is a matter of progression. The purpose is not to have big or small armies but to give the player the feeling he is advancing, so it depends on the intensity of actions.
But the pic example is from tew4 as it is the most suggestive about having dozens of high heroes. And tew4 is not usual map, spells can be endlessly improved and each improvement cost is doubled. Hence the high numbers.

that makes sense. thanks for explaining.
that's a problem i've run into with my own maps; a sense of continual progression. and i haven't found a way to really balance the difficulty, so that it would match whoever plays, novice or no. one would think such a thing would be possible...

You know why I have this numbers? Because I choosed the "spoils of war" or something in the WoG options and Sal's Conquistador is giving them to the enemy. Before I took the first town I was also struggling for resources, after that I've been rich as Crassos.
P.S. Ops, not true. I forgot I also added events on all towns giving owners other then human 50 of each resource and 50000 gold each day. I've made a script to replace many less usefull objects by dwellings of powerfull monsters and I wanted AI to have the resources to buy them.

Neither clicking on quest log button nor "mentor hero" button doesn't do anything. Why?

Well, first, if you activate a mod during a game, must press F12 to reload all scripts. Then, some mods will work if started middle game, others not. Mentoring buttons will work if start middle TEW4 but I am not sure the penalty counter days will work, as they are dependent of a time trigger which requires instructions (start new game). In general the safest way is to start and finish a game with same mods.
Except trainer mod, which I configured to work any time.

None of the links I've found to Mentoring are working... Does anyone knows where to download it?
