Stevie said: I like the army composition. Dwarfs should have more mechanical units and equipment.
Thanks!
I think so too, their army should not only consist of only dwarf units (Heroes V Fortress).
That's why I mixed in several units that would fit into a Dwarven faction, while not drowning it in dwarven raced units

I think I like these too...exceptthe tank, it somehow feels unheroesish to me. But the rest looks really nice!

So if the tank was made more...might & magicish, then it would be good?
(asuming you like the other mechanical units that are actually the same, just not so big..)

My opinion
Nice roster, but if I'd do Fortress, I'd do it differently. Basically, I'd make Dwarves the main race and melee units and Halflings as the ranged/beast-handler caste, with Dwarves being associated with fire and Halflings with frost- they don't have to be hobbit clones, at least not exactly! I don't think Gnomes are that interesting or fit Ashan, as Gremlins/Cabirs kinda fill their nieche. That how it would look IMHO:
Core:
Shieldguard
(Halfling) Poacher (eskimo-style, throws spears)
Armored Bear
Elite:
War Mole
(Halfling) Hog Rider
Hearthmother (females Dwarven casters, wielding oversized flaming hammers)
Champion:
Frost Giant (kinda looks like a Yeti- extra hairy etc.)
Salamandra
Warfare
Runic Anvil
Gatling Gun
Great Canon
Related neutral: Valkyre
Heroes:
Might: Berserker, Thane, Defender
Magic: Grudgekeeper, Skald, Runesmith
Opinions?

Hobbit clones?
You know halflings have been in Might and magic universe since 1990 right?
(And yes, I know Tolkien Hobbits are almost 100 years old, but that doesn't mean that M&M Halflings can't be used)
Gnomes are also a part of might and magic universe (although not so present as halflings)
Warmole?
If you mean a unit that burrows underground, then no.
Dungeon already has a unit like that.
I like the gatlin gun as "ballista", a bit better then just 1 small cannon and a big cannon.
2 melee walker champions?
what is the difference between their playing styles (except for the ice and fire difference)?
Grudgekeeper...?

Some answers
About Halflings- standard, hobbit-like Halflings like in H2-4 don't fit the Fortress' theme as a rough faction of steel, fire and ice. However, eskimo-style, wild Halflings are much cooler (no pun intended) and IMHO fit the Dwarves much better.
About Gnomes- were they in the M&M games? I don't seem to remember. Again- I think that with Gremlins and Cabirs filling the nieche of small, machinery-liking creatures (and being less boring humanoid) they're kinda rebundant. The only way I would include Gnomes is as spirits of Elemental Earth, the opposites of the sinister Troglodytes- perhaps in Sylvan?
About Moles- imagine an armor-plated, badass mole with massive claws and teeth, which can crate holes all over the battlefield allowing your otherwise-immobile army passage. Quite cool and strategic, no? Indeed, I also think a burrowing-worm creature fits the Dungeon (perhaps a Warfare unit? Hydras IMHO should also be Elites replacing that bullsnow Strider, and Faceless as spellcasting Champions), but if they don't have it at least let the Dwarves get one. They should also serve as the Fortress' "flier". If you still don't like them, I'd do a line-up like this:
Defender
Poacher
Shaft Drone (rune-animated constructs)
(Halfling) Frost Drake (Rider)- the Fortress' only flyer
Armored Bear
Hearthmother
Frost Giant
Salamandra
About the "Ballista"- I think every faction should get 1 "Ballista" (unit damage-dealing Warfare unit), 1 "Catapult" (siege damage-dealing Warfare unit) and 1 "unique" (with Haven getting Sisters, Academy getting Ammo Carts- which can also be upgraded to replenish spell points, Necropolis getting Reanimators and so on). There should also be some variety within the "catapult" and "ballista" units (for example I think Orcs should get a battering ram a-la Grond- or just make Behemoths siege-capable). That's why I was kinda dissappointed with Academy's unimaginative Warfare units, despite their cool line-up.
About the Champions- easy. Think Sylvan's Green Dragons and Treants- one can be faster and more offensive, while the other being more slow and tanky. Or one focusing more on support and working in sync with other units, with the other being more of a lone fighter. Options are endless.
About Grudgekeeper- first, it's better than alot of Ubi's unimaginative names. Could be changed to Grudgebearer. Basically, these are old and wise Dwarves who write down every wrongs done to the Clans over the generations, to never let them forget their upcoming revenge. Their hatred manifests as a strong connection with the Fire-god Arkath. Idea came from Warhammer (the ultimate source about Dwarves IMHO- Tolkien for example didn't really detail them, compared to Elves and of-course Hobbits). Up until now, every faction seems to have an offensive/evil hero, an economic/leadership hero and a defensive/good hero, for Might or Magic respectively- so Grudgekeepers are going to be the "evil/offensive" Fortress Magic Hero.

So just recloth the Halflings? Ok.
Gnomes where in the earliest M&M (way back in the 80's), but they were never in heroes (heroes is a spin-off series of the original m&m games)
The Gremlings from H5 academy? (im not 100% sure about the mortar unit in my line up, so mayby)
I won't add any moles in my line up before I know Troglodytes's roles in H7 Dungeon.
For all I know, it might be just the mole role (tunnel making) you are talking about.
Ballista- Agree.
Champions- Well I think there are way to few ranged champions in Heroes in general, so in my case im adding a tank/saboteur champion and a ranged champion with the possibility for AOE damage (depends on enemy formation), but with risky outcome when champion is surronded with allies and enemies (his attack can also damage allies, high risk, high reward).
And there is already 2 faction that already has 2 champions that has the roles you are talking about (Sylvan, and Dungeon).
Grudgekeeper is from Warhammer.
Copyright problems...?

Gremlins were originally featured in H3. As said, they kinda fill D&D's/World of Warcraft Gnome role as midget masters of machinery.
Other than those two, I don't know other outstanding fantasy deciptions of Gnomes.
About Trogs and Gnomes- maybe. But from the lackluster abilities I've seen so far on Academy and Necropolis units (I mean- total Magic Immune Gargoyles- WTF, that's supposed to be the Black Dragons' unique ability), I don't except any unit in the game to have such a cool ability.
Champions- I personally think just two factions should have ranged Champions- Academy (Titans, being the ultimate shooter faction- their second Champion should've been the Djinn, BTW) and Stronghold (Cyclopses, being the ultimate fighting faction- to make them different from the returning Behemoths, though they should also obviously be able to hold their own in melee). And Siege Tank is also taken from Warhammer/World of Warcraft (but from reality as well). About Dungeon- in an ideal world, they would reduce the Hydra to Elite (or make it a Champion of another faction- say Sanctuary, or a lizardman/swamp faction) and make Faceless a SPELLCASTING Champion, fitting the faction's theme. Since we're on the Altar of Wishes here, I presume such a world exists :-)
About Warhammer's Grudgekeeper- and H6/H7 Vampires are not Arthas clones, and half of H5 was not taken from Warhammer? With the right renaming and changing, copyright problems can be avoided or at least mitigated.
Cheers

-Gremlings, yeah i know that, I said h5 gremlings because of the guns, and not H3 gremlins because of their chainballs.
-About Trogs and Gnomes, we will see, the faction page is coming up pretty soon (mayby some time in mars).
I agree on only 2 faction having ranged champions, if there is only 6 faction present, however if there is coming up 3 more faction (Inferno, Fortress, Sanctuary), then I would say that 3 ranged champions would be ok (with different roles, if possible ofcourse)
About copyright: yes steam tank may be from warhammer ( or mayby as early as Tolkien's Silmarillion (there are tanks there inspired from WW1 most lickly) and H6/H7 vampires may look like arthas, but they don't have the copyright names.
When I think about copyright examples i think the recent Scrolls and Candy Crush Saga episodes.
Small companies used the same name as the big time companies, and the small time companies was sued...something like that...
