Pffffft. Thousands of lesbians kiss everyday in Russia and God doesn't strike down. Such a lame hype. You'd better feed us more cool stories about the North Korean leader changing his haircut.
Besides, that photo with kissing girls in aeroplane is a sarcastic selfie covering the Russian government member on the back (ginger dude) who is famous for his anti-lgbt sentences (aside from other no less stupid statements). That photo was highly popular in Russian social networks because that dude is not liked by anyone.
We have gay clubs where people not only find a sex partner for a night but even can be prostitutes, and no one raided them ever.

It's a problem that it happens at all. "It usually doesn't happen" is a weak counterargument - "usually" isn't good enough.

Taking one single case and posing it as an ordinary one is also nothing but a mere propaganda. And you take it as this is typical for Russia, i.e. you are successfully brainwashed and already have prejudices about this country, because you are expected to.
Clubs get raided for various reasons, the one e.g. being the drugs which are present in every club.
Also, don't you notice it's too much threads created about Russia lately? And no one finds it strange. Western media at its best.

It's the young Turks, what did you expect?
I'll admit I don't follow them too often, but I saw their titles and they tend to go in this direction (at least in my perception).
I also noticed that apparently it happened in a lesbian club, pretty strange to allow such a thing in a homophobic country...

Orzie you might be living in denial if you think Russia is not homophobic compared to the rest of Europe. The young people are not, granted, but the laws and attitudes of your regime certainly are.
That being said, there are too many threads on this topic...

Actually, the young turks have no problem talking about homosexuals being abused in America. It's just that one day, it's Russia, the next, it's the US.

I think his point is that this "Russia's homophobic" topic is getting blown out of proportion. The general conservatism preached by the government aside, the Western countries host enough -phobes to make this focus on Russia look a bit (and sometimes not just a bit) hypocritical.

I would only wish America to deal with the N word first before sticking its snowing nose to the Eastern tolerance problems. The case of Ferguson shows there is still lotta work.

Russia is not Europe. Geographically it is, at some degree, but culturally we differ.
Quote: I think his point is that this "Russia's homophobic" topic is getting blown out of proportion.
It just doesn't differ from the thesis "Europe's perverted" which is no less forced via Russian propaganda. Boring.

This sort of thing doesn't happen in a vacuum, it happens because of a general homophobic culture.Quote: You know, we don't care. There is no ultimate way of living, dude.
So if some government decides to commit mass murder, can they deflect criticism with "there is no ultimate way of living"? I doubt you'd accept that, and since you wouldn't, the only thing left is to determine what's better and what's worse.

"Mind your own business" is not the most sophisticated counter-argument for sure, but a thread once a week about Russia and homosexuality is becoming too much. It's not the most important issue in the world, they are not executing gays or sending them to Siberia for hard labor. Their status in Russia is probably not much different from their status 30 years ago in the West. That is not exactly Auschwitz, is it.

Besides, discussion is not restricted. The thing is the current political tensions serve as a nice background for forming a negative opinion a priori.

In my opinion that's too general. I'll say it depends on circumstances.
If it's because of some criminals, then it may be a more isolated problem.. but when it's the law, then it's a huge issue.
