Should heroes VII use unreal Engine 4?
I was wondering. We got word that unreal engine 4 is now free to use for all (or so i understood) and it supposedly offers better possibilities (i am not a programmer so i wouldn't know the technicalities) and is much newer than Unreal Engine 3 that heroes VII is built upon.
So, is it easy to move from unreal engine 3 to 4 and is it still possible that heroes VII could make the jump?

Quote: You can download the engine and use it for everything from game development, education, architecture, and visualization to VR, film and animation. When you ship a game or application, you pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter. It’s a simple arrangement in which we succeed only when you succeed.

I saw having UE3 as another attempt to cut corners. Maybe they want the game to have as low system requirements as possible.

i prefer them using an engine they're more familiar with and if it helps them cut down on requirements then doubly so. h8 in UE 4 maybe but get used to the engine first, k?

I do think they should've used UE 4, but at this point that's too late. I do think the graphics are ok/good in H7, but they are a few years outdated. My guess is that UE 4 would have been less compatible so they would've needed to do their own models or more work on the models, but that's just speculation on my part. Using UE 3 they could probably "salvage" a lot more from h6 possibly directly like combat-system and just add something into them like flanking-system so it meant much less work for Limbic.
As for how "heavy" UE 4 is, by reading forums I understood it's not even much heavier really as base(recommended specs were quite close). It just allows more to be added so it can potentially become much heavier, but also give more to the game. If you consider that they would put exact same things to UE 4 as they did in UE 3 it wouldn't make big difference, some features just might be a bit more "enhanced". That's how I understood it anyway by reading forums, I have no experience or knowledge in that field myself. I do think UE 3 is enough for h7, but I would always hope that games strive to use the newest "proven" engines

If they use UE4, they'd have harder time reusing models ... maybe? idk?
But god forbid!

I don't think Reusing models would be a problem
H6 had its own engine
DM work on Source
Neither stopped their models being reused in M&M X which worked on Unity or in H7 that works on UN3. Maybe there would be a bit more work in their revamp. But I don't see it as a major issue.

I was just wondering on the future proof of the game. Maybe if they could jump or use the UE4 it would offer more things, possibly more fluidity but also, it would allow the game to endure for more years and accept newer technologies.
To be honest with all of you, i would prefer if the game is good in vanilla to have a life span of even 4-5 years with expansions that will keep it relevant and then talk about heroes 8. That way, UE4 would be a tool that would allow for such future proof and constant optimizations

A computer that is a 6 core with Windows 8.1 is considered high requirements even...
today's world of game development and play as a user-player.
A badly configured multi-core PC will have a dire problem at running such a graphically demanding program engine such as UE3.
I say: Lets wait for Windows 10.x to prove itself on the global markets of PC use then, attribute it to 8 cores and 10 cores type of configuration of such PCs. Only then, UE4 could be synchronized with the O.S.'s embedded Direct X 12. So, yes, only Heroes 8 should ever be seen as the next step and, generation of strategy gaming. Heroes 8 could be able, in a much later time, allow the user-player to directly interact with the matter of the kingdoms's affairs(official meetings and audiences with high ranked officials of the kingdom).
