I need help with Heroes of Might and Magic 2
Hello!
I got Heroes of Might and Magic 2 from GoG. There are 2 versions there DOSbox and Windows. The problem is that there is that horrible popping sound at the background which makes the game unplayable for me. The DOSbox version can be fixed by editing a config file inside the games folder.
For the windows version there is no such file. I have upgraded my sound drivers and still there is that clackling sound
Can anyone help me

The problem comes from the sound effects. If I turn them off the music is OK but I can't play without sound effects.

I didn't experience such a problem on H2, but I did on another game, if I recall correctly a possible fix involves changing your audio frequency in your system.
But, as I said I don't know if this is the case for Heroes II.

Could you please tell me how to change the audio frequency so I could test that with Heroes 2?

Meh, the tutorial says check properties of microphones tab, but I don't have any microphone installed, thus the window is empty. Wanted to see if can eventually solve also my sound problems with H3.
@Edit: I found it elsewhere. Thanks.

Unfortunately that did not work I guess I have to play through the campaigns with that and just deal with it and for the rest of the time I will turn off the sound effects.

Why don't you just play the dosbox version? There are no real changes I don't think. (multi-player only?)
Make sure you play with the opera music, best town music in the series. (if you don't mind sitting in a town for 5 minutes)

for old windows games with audio problems, you can try:
control panel -> sound/audio devices -> audio tab -> sound playback -> advanced -> performance -> try lower levels of hardware acceleration than "full"

I just bought Heroes 2 myself and had this same issue. Easy fix.
Go into the dosboxhomm2.conf file and under [mixer] change the prebuffer value to 100. Fixed my sound popping completely.
Oh, sorry, I didn't see you posted about Win95. Don't know about that.
