I've just finished watching the interview with Erwan LeBreton. He said two things I'm not very happy with, though.
The first one is the creature designs. He specifically mentions he wants to have them "epic and enchanting", exaggerated and whatmore. Indeed, the High Fantasy that some people have mentioned. So, it wasn't just a "hey, that might look cool" concept, but something they've been actively pushing.
The second one is rather in contrast with the "epic and enchanting", namely the faction color (and I mean the political coloring in this case) and standing, specifically Arachnapolis. All factions are supposed to have shades of grey, but in doing so, the factions all came closer together, there aren't any real black and whites anymore (besides maybe Inferno). Rather than to enlarge the differences between them (epic and enchanting!) they've actually narrowed the gap, forming a boring, uninteresting mumbo-jumbo of factions, where no one is good or evil.
In specific Arachnapolis, which he mentions is actually a faction of Bhuddist wizards who have fallen to an adoration for the Spider aspect of Asha, trying to find ways to skip the fate through holes in the web. The resurrection of undead is just a means to this end, while they're not hellbent on destroying all life, but rather try to find some eternal zen mode. Even if that concept may yield a nice faction, the one thing it is not is a Necropolis. If they simply would have called it Arachnapolis with a few undead tagged on because there was no true Necropolis in Ashan, the response of the community would likely have been much different, who would then have been clamoring for a real Necropolis faction next to it. I'm going to call the current faction Arachnapolis from now on, it's not a Necropolis for me anymore.
Now for Marzhin's interview!

Thanks a lot for this awesome feedback!
From what I understand, you got to play 2 or 3 single player demos. Didn't you have the chance to play some multiplayer at all? Did you at least got to discuss it with the devs? Have you heard anything about simultaneous turns?
edit: oups I missed it in Marzhin interview! awesome! Do you know if it will be more powerfull than the one from H5 (where sim turns ends for good once you met another player)

so, Erwin acknowledges the fans were more qualified for the job than he was, couldn't have been bothered to look in the credits of Heroes 4 to see who the writer was and propose a deal, and didn't really want to because he wished to be the dungeon master of Might and Magic
in other words, if anyone else had been the Ubisoft consultant, we could have gone with Arkane's vision and had a chance of continuing JVC's universe, yeah that sure changes my perception of you and your fan fiction my beloved avatar, thanks a lot
seriously though for a moment, thanks Galaad and Stevie, you really did good nearly fell off my seat when I heard you ask him my question lol

nothing on create a hero?
good job anyway however i feel the need to complain about how you framed your interviewee's. you should put them just a bit off-center so they look into the frame rather than having them in the middle. so if you'd turn the camer just a tad to the left it would look much more dynamic and alive. just some friendly advice, it was pretty good otherwise, especially for an amateur job

In the interview, Erwan said very clear he was responsible of the excesive color coding that applied to each faction in Heroes VI. I can only hope that H7 is not an exception but a trend in a better direction (hint hint: don't overdo it!)

Nice interviews guys! I enjoyed listening to them.
Glad to hear that simultaneous turns are in. I'm not sure how much I'll use it myself, but it's a great feature for online games.

I believe he mentioned that they tried reaching out to the original team, but it proved impossible? I don't see a reason to hate on him because of that. Not to mention that Marzhin himself admitted that the original drafts for the story set in the original universe were pretty terrible - had "anyone else" been in charge of it, who knows - we could be now using that script.
Quite honestly, it would do us best if we could have access to these documents Marzhin read - I believe it could give us all some more insight in the subject of the current universe.

nah, he said "we made no real effort to contact those guys, to identify them"
he gave his usual whine about having no bible from NWC and JVC being too busy to help, but said he knew the fans could help, said he didn't try to contact anyone else with the excuse that they weren't in France lol
Marzhin said the Nival Heroes 5 was on Antagarich and pretended Heroes 4 didn't happen (which would have been just as stupid as the final version), and he said the Dark Messiah draft was set in Beldonia and would have been had superficial Axeoth namedrops instead of superficial Ashan namedrops
that would have been an awesome building block, too bad Erwin said no and threw the entire canon universe in the bin lol

He said they had considered it, but realised those guys lived in the USA. They realised that if they had to make them work for Ubisoft, they would have to move themselves and their families to France. The whole logistical operation plus the likeliness of those people agreeing with it was considered too much by Ubisoft, so they never bothered to even make contact with them.
To me, that sounds a bit stupid; even if they would not have come over to France to work for Ubisoft, they might have had contacts and/or access to materials of the original games that Ubisoft hadn't.

Pff, that didn't turn out so well if you ask me. Controversial questions like the ones suggested in the Q&A thread would have been much better, IMO. But since everybody assaulted me after I proposed that ...
Still Verriker has a new awesome status now.

Speaking of which, you should ask Arnaud about the Q&A status, see if Xavier can answer gameplay questions better since it's his area. It would be good to have those too.

For you that got a chance to play the game, how was he feel of the adventure map? Music, openness, sense of exploration? And did the adventure map buildings "make sounds" while passing, like in H4? Were there nice sound effects when taking a chest or visiting different locations?
I still remember that feeling when playing H2, that enchanting music and sound effects with orchestral strings.

Ok I managed to sit through about half the Erwan interview before I had to turn it off. If I should try to say just one thing positive about it, at least I have to give him credit for not hiding the fact that he's responsible for just about everything we dislike about the way Heroes has turned.
