Era II Frequent Crashes in Multiplayer
I'm having frequent crashes in multiplayer (about 1 crash every in-game week). No error message is displayed. When 1 player ends his turn the data sends 100% and the other player crashes right as his turn should start. Either client may crash and the exact time varies somewhat.
On both machines I am running Era 2.46 on clean heroes 3 complete. I had previously been using the HD mod, but have removed it from the equation in an attempt to narrow down the source of these crashes. I have disabled all WoG scripts via the in-game UI and started a fresh map and still receive the crashes.
The computers are connected via LAN, it is a strong connection.
I have set the compatibility mode to windows XP and run as administrator.
I have searched this forum and have been unable to find any solutions which solve my problem.
I am just about at my wit's end on trying to fix this problem. Any ideas or potential solutions would be greatly appreciated.

The irony is that HD mod drastically reduces the crashes, as it has up to date .dll files. Heroes 3 + wog was initially build for win 95/xp maximum, the shock with win 7/8 is harsh.
Then it is true also that wog wasn't enough tested in multiplayer, there is a lot of data to pass forth and back, so the choice of scripts for MP must be selected carefully (read the descriptions).
In single, I have no crashes at all with Era. It crashed a lot when I upgraded to win7 then I did a manipulation with sound in registry and crashes are gone so I am not forced anymore to use HD mod, which slows my games.

So, you play on LAN, and choosed the compatibility with Windows XP ?
You could do it for no reason, if you simply don't have it.
And, it sends the data to the other computer, and it crashes ?
Umm, you deleted Heroes 3 HD, but this fixes some errors.
And if you want to play, why don't you ignore LAN, and get Hamachi ?
This works for each game sepparate, and if you don't have network, get a router. It will make the both devices be connected to the same IP, meaning that you will be able to play
I don't know any further if there is a problem with WoG, Era II, or whatever your using there. I didn't even play it, but the tips I gave you, I already used for other games.

I have tried using the HD mod.
I have tried not using the HD mod.
I have tried Hamachi as a network connection.
I have tried LAN as the means of connection.
I have tried disabling all scripts and creating a new map, (making sure to disable the quicksave script).
I have tried winXP compatibility, and no compatibility options. (one computer runs windows 8 and the other runs windows 7)
The consistent things are that I have Era2.46 with the default settings (including Wake of Gods) and have not under any of the circumstances I listed been able to get the crashes to not occur within the span of a week of in-game time.
I have not received any crashes in single player, this just seems to be a multiplayer conflict.
Any other tips or ideas?

@Error3
Umm, that's what I say. If you have Win7, or 8, then use the compatibility with Windows 98. For me is the best compatibility.

Just tried Windows 98 compatibility and still no luck. The crashes remain.

And when you play SoD/vanilla game, all is ok? Try also to download Hota expansion and play it online using HD mod. If no crashes, then is definitely wog the cause.

Using HD Mod and Vanilla Complete I get no crashes.
I launched the HD launcher and selected heroes3.exe and hit "play". I was able to play over 2 weeks game-time with no crashes. In fact it seemed very fast for moving between player turns (sending, AI moving, etc.).
When using the HD launcher and selecting era.exe I crash every 3/4 days (on network play of course).

Excellent news, I have finally gotten the crashes to stop!
I have not yet discovered the source of the problem, I will attempt to work the disabled features back in until I locate it.
Here is what I have working. I did these steps for both PCs:
I had era+HD mod+heroes complete installed.
I reinstalled Era2.46 over the install I had (just in case I had messed up some minor setting I couldn't even remember). I added the patcher_x86.dll version 2.6.0.0, this is updated over the version included with era 2.46 and is required for the HD mod.
I then disabled every other mod except WoG. Specifically, I disabled Fast Battle Animation, Secondary Skills Scrolling, and Yona (the other mods included with era 2.46).
I then launched Era from the HD Launcher which is still using the ini settings provided to me by Salamandre and not the default ones. (although, I do not believe the HD mod has anything to do with the crashes I was having). The launcher loaded the programs as windows, and I left them that way (previously I had been using full screen).
I loaded up a map I had previously created which had all WoG scripts disabled and I played for over a week and half and have not received any crashes. This is longer than I had ever played without crashes before. The map did have a couple of minor erm scripts I had written active which changed the attributes of a few heroes.
I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I ran the HD Launcher as admin in winXP sp3 compatibility mode.
Thanks again everyone for the help! I will try to narrow down which specific conflict was the original cause and report back on that.
Update:
I played 2 weeks with no crashes after making the following changes.
1)Re-enabled all Era-included mods (Yona, Fast Battle Animation, etc.)
2)Re-enabled all scripts I wished to use
3)Used full-screen mode on the HD mod.
4)Re-enabled the mod I've been writing
5)Added the new interface mod
Very interesting note, and what may have fixed my problem!!!:
The HD mod and Era2 both install dpwsockx.dll. The description reads "Internet TCP/IP and IPX connection for Direct Play". The version installed by the HD mod is 4.7.0.700 and the version installed by Era is 4.8.0.400. This means that when I installed the HD mod over Era I was downgrading this connection dll. By installing Era over the package and then adding the updated patcher_x86.dll I now have the updated versions of both! As this dll directly deals with the connecting aspect, and since none of my other changes amount to anything, I think it is a very likely culprit for the problems I have been having.
