Forge, Armageddon's Blade and NWC

You know, I had a recent idea. Since the Forge was scrapped, do you think it is a possibility NWC predicted their downfall (as well as 3DO's downfall) though the game?

I mean in the Armageddon's Blade campaign there is Tamar (http://mightandmagic.wikia.com/wiki/Tamar), who told Catherine her "friend" may be going to the dark path. She assumed it was Roland, who was vengeful at demons. But she may not have suspected it was Gelu, who later made the clash with Kilgor and destroyed the world.

To make the point short, do you think NWC felt that scrapping Forge was their downfall and Reckoning as a "visual presentation" of their bankrupcy?

It's more like an indirect sign for me. Generally, not only 3DO went bankrupt in the beginning of 00's. For example, well-known Sierra Entertainment who published a real lot of games of that age you can remember went bankrupt as well, and a lot of cool games left underrated or even unnoticed.

However, with the Forge being scrapped and Shadow of Death being released without a new castle the first sign of apocalypse became clearly visible, with Heroes Chronicles, obviously undone MMVIII, JVC's retirement from the lead game designer's post and obviously flawed Heroes IV did their cut.

Fun is, when we look at some Tracy Iwata's materials, we can clearly realize that her creatures (intended for NWC's Heroes V set in Axeoth) would very well fit for the genuine, qualified Heroes IV, with fancy graphics, reincarnation of older concepts (Heroes 2 Phoenix for example) and so on.

I would say that 3DO ruined NWC at the core because NWC was a small team not used to the work tempos 3DO forced them to perform. However, everyone's favourite Heroes 3 and Might and Magic 6-7 were a result of 3DO's influence on NWC as well. It's complicated.

As interesting as that sounds, I don't know if anyone would really want or try to predict their downfall. That's like going to battle and giving your army a speech to prepare them for a loss.

Again, interesting theory, but I don't know if I can take it as fact. I just don't see a company, whose main point is survival, becoming suicidal and giving up, especially since they still bothered to make the fourth game.

Well yes. But many criticized H4 for being quite diverse (different stats, different mechanics etc.). Though I'd sooner say they thought that the Might & Magic franchise will have downfall, but they hoped to get something out of H4, but never realized they would fall bankrupt.
