Sylvan discussion
Please use this thread to discuss MMH7 Sylvan.
ABOUT SYLVAN*
The Elves are graceful and patient souls who live in close harmony with the lands and forests. They are in tune with Sylanna, the Dragon of Earth. Her deliberate nature and ancient wisdom are reflected in their approach to life and worship. They view the forests and living things as their responsibilities, and do not shrink from punishing those who defile them.
A few years before the Second Eclipse, his head turned by a band of flatterers, High King Arniel decided that Elf power was too decentralized, and that the traditional way of electing the supreme ruler (through a vision shared by the Druids) was unreliable. His solution was to usurp the powers of the local Elf kings, strip the Druids of their authority, and make his own title hereditary.
Among the various rebels that clashed with him, the most tragically famous is Queen Tuidhana. The conflict between Arniel and Tuidhana escalated into open war, until Brythigga, the Mother of Trees and home of the original royal dwelling, was burned to the ground, leaving a blackened scar on the earth where nothing would ever grow again. High King Arniel was caught inside the conflagration and burned alive.
The place where Brythigga had stood was stricken from the maps, and to this day no Elf will go there. Another Mother of Trees has been consecrated, hidden deep within the forests, but no Elf will speak of her to outsiders.
Centuries have passed, but tensions remain high between the Elves and Tuidhana’s people, now known as the Dark Elves. The current High King, Alaron, is now slowly re-establishing stronger ties with the other nations.
LINEUP
CORE
Hunter
It may come as a surprise, but no, Elves are not vegetarians. Although many Druids choose to be.
Master Hunter
The Master Hunter receives his title during a special ceremony, in which an elder Treant offers the Elf one of his branches to be carved into a bow. The Master Hunter uses this bow until his death, and is buried with it.
Double shot
Master Hunters are so swift that they can shoot two arrows when lesser men would only shoot one.
Dryad
Dryads can sing trees into shape to create tools, weapons and even buildings for their Elven relatives. A chorus of Dryads can form an ancient tree into the foundations of an Elven city.
Treant synergy
Close to Treants, Dryads emit a protective shield for all allies, and even heal the Treants by their only presence.
Oak Dryad
As Dryads are spirits, it is very hard to destroy them for good. Like Nature itself, I suppose...
Gift of Life
The Oak Dryads have such a close relationship to Treants than Mother Treants can literality offer their own lifeforce to them, allowing them resurrection.
Pixie
It is important to distinguish between Pixies born from wildflowers and those from gardens. The former are rough and solitary and tend to die quickly if they are captured or domesticated.
Sprite
Sprites are closely tied to the turning of the seasons; they are rare in winter and relatively numerous in spring and summer.
No Retaliation
The switfness and small size of the Sprites make them impossible to retaliate.
ELITE
Druid
Monlin, the Elven language, makes no distinction between male or female Druids. They are all called simply ‘Druids’, which can roughly be translated as ‘the ones who know the plants.
Leaf Daggers
Channelling Earth's power, Druids can cast a flurry of razor-edged leafs that cut through cover and armor, unaffected by distance, but only once per battle.
Druid Elder
Druid Elders haven’t slain a stag to make their coifs. A dying stag will seek a Druid of his choice and offer him his hide to use as he or she sees fit. It is a great honour to receive such a gift.
Thorns
Calling upon the power of Earth itself, once per battle, Druid Elders can cast a spell on the battlefield, creating an area covered by thorns that slow down and hurt enemies inside it.
Moon Doe
Female Twilight Stags are nocturnal. While they don’t burst into flame when they are touched by sunlight (contrary to what the old nursery rhyme says), they prefer to come out at night, especially when Asha’s Moon is high in the sky, hence their name.
Unfettered
The creature's power and agility makes it resilient to any form of movement reduction, magical or not.
Sun Deer
Needless to say, mating is a rather complicated affair for Twilight Stags, as the males and females can only meet during the short periods when both sun and moon are in the sky!
Inspiring Presence
The vicinity of this creature is a blessing for all allies. Morale is increased dramatically, as well as luck.
Blade Dancer
There are several forms of Battle Dance. Mastering one of them is already a great achievement.
Vigilance
Blade dancing is a movement-based combat style, allowing the Blade Dancers to never be flanked.
Blade Master
Remember what I was saying about the different forms of Battle Dance? Well these Elves have mastered several of them.
Whirling Death
Masters of blade dancing at so fast and mobile that they can hit all enemies in range in the same movement: deadly.
CHAMPION
Green Dragon
Because Green Dragons have a rocky hide covered with moss and plants, it’s no surprise that a resting Dragon can easily be mistaken for a mere mound or hill – it’s usually the heavy, gravelly breathing that tips off the unsuspecting traveller!
Regeneration
Avatar of Earth itself, the Green Dragon draws his strength for the very ground of Ashan, regenerating himself constantly.
Immune to Earth
The very nature of the Green Dragon makes it impervious to all aggression from Earth Magic.
Emerald Dragon
Like their progenitor Sylanna, Emerald Dragons are among the most patient and measured types of Dragons, rather unlikely to dissolve interlopers with their corrosive breath unless provoked.
Acid Breath
The Emerald Dragon's breath is a gigantic flow of acid, burning the toughest armor long after the pain first appeared. Entire armies can be decimated by this terrifying breath.
Treant
Treants are born only on sacred soil deep within the forests of Irollan, near a Dragon vein or nexus attuned to the essence of Earth.
Llving Shelter
Treants can transform into a magical trees that protect allies with cover, increase defense and acts as a moat when enemies approach, making enemies trip and stop. The Treant cannot attack or move in this state.
Ancient Treant
Treants are possibly the oldest creatures walking the surface of Ashan. The tales they would tell if only they could talk! Sadly, they can only... bark.
Entangling Roots
The Ancient Treants have such great roots that they can burrow and surge anywhere on the battlefield, grabbing and entangling any target with tremendous grip.
Upgrades benefits from basic abilities as well.

Hmmm I dont know. Never been interested in this faction, and not even this version impressed me. Bunch of humanoids and only 2 beasts, one of them is especialy unimpressive(looking at you bambi). From all the factions this one is the weakest for me, but it has always been like that so who am I to judge ?

I like Sylvan. Especially the bambi
As a whole, they look like a pretty colorful and effective team. Here is a side by side / army line-up / roster overview image of the bunch:

I like it a lot. a tad too green, but overall a visually pleasing faction. replace the bladedancer with anything non-human and it'd be one of the better factions, probably.

Yes kiryu133! I also would like the factions to have fewer human creatures. Blade Dancer is the obvious one to go in this line up... maybe replace him with some kind of an angry "honey badger + porcupine" mix of epic proportions
Forests are full of terrifying creatures even in real life and even more in fantasy worlds... such potential.

Or maybe replace him with some sort of a great eagle or a giant paradise bird... would be a nice addition to the fast attacking theme of fury... not many flyers in there to begin with. Pretty much just the pixie. Dryad seems to be floating, but i would be disappointed if it could actually fly :/

Technically they are not human creatures they are humanoid creatures because they are elves. I know humans and elves are sooo different from one another.

I like sylvan. This is ironic, but I agree that bladedancer could get permanent vacations.
then we could bring an old friend back:
or it could be a creature inspired in a white owl:
maybe with a phoenix vibe...

let's face it, the only possible replacement for the bladedancer is a swarm of hummingbirds.

Overall I like the sylvan lineup.
I really like the design of the Sun deer, the pixies(I really like how they look kinda off) and the treant.
However I think the blade dancer looks really lame and the moon doe doesn't look that impressive.
I also think the Dryad should have had feet, having 2 floating female units without feet seems a bit too similar for core units.

Lightavararx had already started a similar thread. Why not help him put on some pictures and help out a new member? Why do the same people have to make threads?
Mods come on! Elvin, alcibiades and destroyer do smth. Not cool guys. How on earth will newer members feel more welcome, have a motovation to be active and contribute too?

I'm liking the Sylvan lineup, at least from a concept art standpoint at this time. Still mixed on the Green Dragon based on the gameplay preview we've seen, but I'm very hopeful for the Emerald Dragon upgrade (which looks pretty cool to me in the concept art). Druid and Blade Dancer lines took a while to get used to, but I like them now. Core is particularly good in my eyes, especially the Master Hunter.

i agree, but frankly i feel like the only unit thet could have de-greenfied of the lineup is the bladedancer, perhaps reaching the druid. The Hunter wearing a leaves cloth as camo makes sense.

Imo still think this one is better.
I don't mind dragon but at the same time when you compare it to base treant it look like two form of the same thing.
Other than that can't say much has the unit missing to me drop it to a low average faction.

They could've made the upgr dryad also a bit blueish, just like the upgr treant. That would make the line up a tad less green, these units more consistent and the dryad and her upgr better discernable.

What I'd do...
Is replacing either Dryad or Pixie for a walking animal unit serving as tank (a Bear or a Tiger), seeing their role as a fast debuff unit, & replacing Blade Dancers either with Pegasus Riders or Giant Mantises- giving Sylvan the Elite flier they deserve.
