here's an idea for a mod:
Replace Dryads with Blade Dancers as core creatures and make Griffins their Elite creature, like in H4?

+1
I would only replace Pixies rather then ryads. (I like the designe more and Pixie and BD have the same role (Dmg dealer))

I always liked the griffins spot in h4, and Id also replace the pixie since it looks out of place in this line up.
If someone could turn the griffin into a hippogryph that would be awesome.

No. It's important that there is now a faction without (high-tier) fliers. This kind of variety was an asset that unfortunately got forgotten since H3 tried to balance everything out.
The griffin is ok in Castle/Haven (ok, it's supposed to be neutral this time), it has been serving a purpose as a non-human in Haven lineup.
Blade dancers also are required as an offensive (ground!) elite. I'd leave them there, although I don't like the design.

In terms of design, I like this Sylvan. As a few others already pointed out, finally the color scheme is being broke, and as a result the whole army is pleasant to look, and to me they all fit together. I am especially fond –apart of its faceless face- of the Pixie. She stands out and IMO has its place in a nature town. The faction feels like a nature town overall, and I think this is why I like it. No over-emphasis on the racial, some over-decoration but not that much considering we’re in Ashan.
To me the Dryad is not that similar with the Pixie, aside the fact they are both feminine and looks fragile, let’s hope they will differ in gameplay, but visually, one is a green spirit and the other is kind of red/pink flower so is different enough for me. Hunter is a bit rainbowish but I like the cape and the bow, upgrade looks better, which is a good thing.
The biggest problem I see in this lineup is the Elite slot, starting with the Druid. To be perfectly honest I was really looking forward to the female design of this unit, and how disappointed I was when I saw something barely looking like the male Druid of H5, only gender-bended. Seriously, why didn’t you do a male Druid directly in that case! You took a firm stance for a female design, and you didn’t honor your commitment! She’s not even pretty, her face looks like some old witch from eastern Europe, and those eyes, no, sorry to disappoint you, but glowing eyes doesn’t feel magical, it feels silly. And we can’t even see her shapes, you know, there is a whole grey area between your usual Ashan prostitute and being dressed with a bag! To sum it up, she looks manly, with stupid glowing eyes, and a dead deer on her head, which looks super odd since Deer is part of the lineup as a unit, no matter the explanation one can find to legit this.
Now for the Moon Doe. I like the skin, the blue/transparency gives it some ethereal feel (kind of), but the model is just a Bambi. Sigh, it replaces Unicorn, it could look a bit more mystical, more unique. Same goes with Sun Deer, is only the texture and effects which does the whole thing, the model by itself is just your general Bambi again, with horns this time. As a new creature in the lineup, as a replacement of the icon and high representative of this faction, I am utterly unimpressed and disappointed by this model. As for the Bladedancer, I won’t comment much since I never liked that unit as a unit anyway, but I could witness it clearly didn’t match the fan base’s expectations. Let’s hope he has a fun gameplay.
The champion slot, is the best. The Green Dragon does look a bit like a Kirin, but that is not because of its design, but because of its stance. But it is clearly a different creature, and looking at it I don’t even miss its wings, so, well done. Treant I like very much, especially the upgrade, in fact, I’d even say is the best Treant design ever made(!).
Now, when you look at creatures overall, there is not that much of new, but the overall feel is very different from what he had in HV, which is a positive thing for me. Though, if you really ask me the kind of creatures I would have liked to see, I grief Unicorn and Phoenix, and because I am such a conservative I would have replaced Hunter by Catelf, and add Sphinx, Lionman, and Firewolf as NWC originally intended for HV.
And a Satyr, still can’t believe they came up with Root Snake instead of Satyr.
But overall, as I said at the beginning of my post, I am pleased with this lineup.

Pixies look so out of place and too high up the tier list imho, the pixie or the dryad needs to be replaced with some beef. Hunters are going to be my main interest though as it has always been the archers that were the key focus of every Sylvan faction. I loved their position in H5, not too early, but not too late, but way too strong compared to the rest of the line-up, I used to literally throw all my units at the enemy to protect them 'cause they were by far the most useful, similar story with H3 but far less extreme.

Wingless dragon was a good idea but if the treant is not a shooter then I don't see the point.

I don't think the treant has to be a shooter. The two champions might support two different strategies, at least in theory: either deer, dancer and pixie charge into the enemy, supported by ranged fire. Dragons will have to take over once those go down. As tanks, they should be better at this than fragile phoenixes. Or treants trap-root enemy melee in the center of the battlefield where they are beaten by full ranged fire. In any case, Sylvan has to make the most of its core/elite shooters. This is quite traditional for this town.

I like the idea of slyvan having more than the usual amount of shooters, especially since they have basically no fliers.

It is, though I don't like the deerhead (feels silly), the staff and the absence of the golden sicle. And it not being the best elite.

i did remove these things from the quote since i also dislike them
guys, replacing the pixie with the blade-dancer and putting the griffin in elite is silly. just remove the blade-dancer completely instead.

Well is true she doesn't HAVE to be pretty, but then should be a design decision. The way they went with it, I can't understand why they didn't do male druid instead.

I for one am really happy that they did not make her sensual. The Dark Elves of HoMM5 are something I dread to ever see repeated.
All in all I am very happy with Sylvan, they did far better than I was expecting (not Dwarf good, but then again nothing is). I sincerely hope that the Treant shoots though, one way or another.

So you are wondering why they didn't go with a male druid since this woman is not pretty enough anyway?(not sarcasm, actually asking).

I think I wasn't clear enough. My main critic with this unit is that it seems they took the h5 druid, only to gender-bend it. I see this as unimaginative and counterproductive.
