Poll Question: Improve Emerald Dragon Model?
I believe many of us find the emerald dragon model underwhelming when compared to the basic unit. God forbid I am not asking for anything radical but perhaps it could get a facelift? Maybe brighten or add some emerald stones? I really don't like that face, it looks tired and wrinkly instead of majestic and powerful.
Now then, let us clutter the general discussion thread no longer!
Grandma dino face, how would you feel about a minor change?

Yep. At the moment the emerald dragon looks too lazy and not threatening at all... Kinda nice in its own way, but i dont think their place is on the battlefield
I would like it to be somehow more majestic. I already tried to make an alternative version of its art too to address this point.

I like where i think they're going with it (old, wise dragon) but they kinda failed in it. still, i'm not looking for a complete redo, just make the face like sterner or glorious or something.

I believe it needs to look more threatening right now it just looks too placid; of course, this was probably the point. I would prefer a mix of sagely wisdom and fierceness when provoked if that makes any sense.

I think the emerald dragon could use some more emeralds and indeed the face of the green dragon looks much better than the emerald's wooden face.

I'm ambivalent at this point. I acknowledge that it could be improved, but I'm satisfied with the current design. Change it or not, it matters little to me.

Can somebody post some pics of what they're talking about? All I could find on the Emerald Dragon is the artwork. The MMH7 site has the animation for only the Green Dragon... Thanks!

Press the arrow in the upper right corner and it should give you the emerald dragon.

Yes, a slight facelift could do. A bit cut-and-paste of existing pieces should do most of the job. I kind of like the wrinkled face, though.

oh jeez, did i cause this?
I'll reiterate, any change would come at a cost of something else, just like it was with the vampire and lich. And at this point it wouldn't likely be ready for release. It seems way simpler than it would actually end up being.

Depends on your point of view, I guess. If you designed the Emerald Dragon, perhaps ... but it's not because of the discussion in the main H7 thread since you revealed your presence there . The discussions on the design have been going on since the model was released on the H7 website.
Don't let this discussion scare you off, though; rather see the positive side of it. People discuss what they know so far and come up with ideas. Weeding out the negative criticism, the constructive criticism may work to your (i.e. game development) benefits. It provides community insights.

don't worry, it won't reach Lich/Vampire levels. Besides, Centaur is in bigger need of tweaks.

What about the other models? Like that Pokemon ... which name it was ... ah, Wyverns! And not to mention the discrepancy between the Ghosts art and the phlegm creature modeled after it.
Ah, and I voted that I don't care. If I did, I would prefer it redone as well *wink, wink*.

If you haven't noticed, there are small arrowes in the upper right corner of each units description/animation, that switch to the upgraded version. But just for this time Current Emerald dragon 3D model.
If some minor tweaks would be made, I would have nothing against it.

WAit Pandy, you actualy think those artworks were made before the models? It is 100% clear what was made prior to what. In this case H6 model is older then a drawing made on its base (same goes for centaurs and many other things(thats why I think Artworks in H7 are rather bad))

Could we just... take that quote, enlarge and bold it, slap it on a huge banner, and post that banner EVERYWHERE? I feel this notion is lost on an absurd number of people.
With that said, THANK YOU, LAYN, FOR SPELLING THAT OUT!
Hopefully more people will get the message from hereon out. Unlikely, but hopefully.

Well I get the message, but for me there's another aspect to it. Like Layn also said, one of the reasons it takes such a long time to make even small changes is because of all the bureaucracy: Each change has to be decided first in design team, then it has to be accepted at higher levels, then it has to be implemented, then the implementation has to be accepted at higher levels, etc. I don't know if bureaucracy is any better or any worse in this game than in any other game, but the point for me is still: That's an internal problem for the developers to deal with. Our job is still to speak up when we think something is badly implemented - if we just sit back and nod and clap our hands and say: "Yay, you did something" no matter how bad it is, then we're not taking our role in this so-called "council" seriously. Now one can discuss whether it even makes sense to speak of such a council, given that said bureaucracy obviously prohibits large-scale (and possibly even small-scale) changes, which then defeats the whole purpose of the council - but again, UbiSoft should have thought of that before they put on this show, and if this is in fact just a failed attempt at creating some goodwill, I will not let it pass without saying my opinion.

In case of small changes it's less bureaucracy and more, change in a model, means change in the UV, means change in all textures, which in itself means a wide variation of things. Depending on the changes, maybe we just need adjust the animations, worst case, change the rig and have widerreaching animation changes. And of course also check what that means for the VFX.
All taking time away from key people that we need working on other aspects.
Even creating a unit from scratch, i wouldn't call any of it bureaucracy. And all of it is definitely essential. I have quite a clear picture in my head what would have happened if we didn't have plenty of checks at every turn. And it wouldn't have been good.
Of course you're welcome to voice your opinion on a unit. The difficulties don't make them wrong, and we definitely listen (way more closely than you believe!). heck up until now i've only interacted in communities as a fan, making my own sometimes scathing comments on whatever bothers me.
