Ffs, still? Look across from the elephant. See that rider on his horse? See the size of the horse? Yeah. Get a clue, guy. It's already been explained why that idea is stupid. That you intend to reiterate your loss of simple aesthetics or knowledge concerning existing units is confusing, to say the least.

Yep, but those are not mounts in classic fantasy nor in history. Horses, camels and elephants were always used to carry people and as such should have rider.

Seriously fred work on your attitude. I like your terrains and understand you don't agree with me, but we should respect one another. For me hafelump without rider looks bold. It is clearly missing something. Unit size in homm3 is not real but rather consensual and it can be done right with rider. Puls it can have interesting tactical effects. Imagine having archer on the elephant. Make it weak shooter but powerful melee fighter and you have something think about on battlefield.

It's not that the idea itself is bad, it's just that you didn't really present a meaningful argument to back it up until now. Your previous suggestions appeared only as stubborn hairsplitting. You should have began by explaining how this design choice would affect gameplay, not by describing several models to which you are strongly biased, while barely making any point of why they should be implemented! Make yourself more clear, snowdamnit, and someone might care to listen!
Nonetheless, Fiorin obviously has something in mind for the elephant, so I don't think pushing your vision any further will result in anything but an unpleasant quarrel with Fred.
I shall now return to watch from the shadows. Please don't turn this thread into another eyesore.

@ mistrz: i apologize. It's not you personally; i just feel i am surrounded and drowning in other's stupidity lately. I've been going through a living hell irl because of other's stupidity, so anything that resembles such i've been particularly hostile to as of late.
I understand elephants have had riders in the past, but with such a large animal it won't fit with the others, aesthetically.

Cool, no harm done. After all that's what forums are for, exchanging ideas. It's Fiorin's work and in the end we'll see what he is going to do with it.
If it's just heavy infantry/ tank type unit, then maybe elephantaur is a way to go. We do have other animalheads in Bastion already.

Using your logic, Unicorns should have rider as Unicorn = Horse with Horn.

No, not by any merit. Unicorns are very rarely depicted as mounts ( like in Narnia). Most of the times Unicorns are sentient and highly inteligent like Dragons.

Guys, i dont think all this fight is needed Just because a model Idea. Im doing the model just because someone asked on this Topic. So any Idea is valid to stay. im not gonna do everything, but somethings i can try.
Bastion already have a Rider on Camel, so i prefer stay with a heavy beast. Ah, the Camel could have a New model too If Anyone could help. Andruids was coordinating the Bastion improves... What he think about the model ?

Someone already commented they'd rather see the original New Town Group's model reconstructed. I'm afraid I share this sentiment. Many creatures in Heroes III are someonewhat stylized and I think hunched brown oliphants just look better than regular grey elephants. Take for example wolves:
- irl wolf
- Ms. Iwata render
But that's still just my take. I don't think I really coordinate anything. Anyone is welcome to contribute or add their two cents to this project and if they want my name under it, I'll gladly put out an update with new content (unless it's something really jarring or not really in the spirit of the original Bastion town ^^).

The "rider" conundrum to me is this: if the elephant isn't meant to have a rider, why does it have a saddle-like thing on its back? To me this generates confusion. If it doesn't have a rider it shouldn't have artifacts meant to be ridden (?)

I was hoping to reach the next milestone with a real substantial change, but sadly, fate decided otherwise. Still, I grew impatient while some really nice assets were gathering dust for so long, so I decided to just finish them up and release a new (albeit half-way) version. Here it is:
Pavilion 2.6.5.rar
+ or, if you have the recent version: 2.6 -> 2.6.5 assets patch
+ submod fix (only if you want to play random maps with new objects - dunes, fortune idols and wisdom trees.)
What's new:
- New Grail sanctuary animation;
- Gorgeous obelisk puzzle graphics, salvaged from some long-lost dimension and generously gifted by Orfy;
- Various minor tweaks and corrections to the town screen;
The work is still only half done, but now the town has long due Grail animation and an absolute artifact of an obelisk puzzle to boot, remembering the times of eagerly-awaited WoG 3.59. I hope my benefactor won't be upset it's included in such a mediocre release. More things will get added and updated eventually, but for now, some other projects and real-life stuff have pushed their way on top of my priority list. I'll try to come back with another update as soon as I can!

Awesome to hear this mod is still getting lots of care and love.
Quick question, whenever I used the Desert Objects submod, random map generation would fail to put objects on the map. At best I'd get some resources, treasure chests, mines, but absolutely no obstacles (trees, mountains, stuff like that), no roads, no underground paths. I made a quick test and I see that this is still the case for 2.6.5. Is there a known incompatible mod or setting that is causing this? (although I tried to disable everything except VCMI essentials and it's still happening).
I have no problem playing without this submod, but I am curious as to what is the underlying cause of this behavior. Thanks!
