Before I buy heroes 7...
My idea of the perfect heroes-game is:
- heroes3 style(art+combat)
- heroes4 story
- heroes5 skillsystem (more balanced though)
- heroes6 areasystem (so the ai doesnt run around with 5 lvl1 heroes taking mines)
is it anything among those lines?

The H6 area system is there. The skillwheel has different underlying mechanics than that of H5. Story so far is not bad, but not the level of H4 either. Art is definitely closest to H6 as a lot of assets were imported from it. Combat tries to be H3-esque, turn system is similar.

That means no Iniciative, only normal speed of creatures? I was unpleseantly convinced of the oppposite.

Creature speed and creature initiave are two separate entities in H7.

So it works the same as in H6? I'm a bit confused, because Stevie mentioned H3, and I honestly can't remember how turns worked back there.

oh and another question:
how are the damaging spells in a longer game?
I always loved playing the magic classes, but i hate having to rely on frenzy/hypno in a longer game.

He meant that battle order in H7 depends on initiative of creatures, just like in H3. H5 used the ATB, which was a different beast and not used in H7.

H5 sounds and music-style anyone? Nobody remembers the amazing main menu theme of H5? Whatever...

There was only speed back then, which would dictate when a unit would attack and the number of tiles it would be able to move.
Initiative, as for units with the same speed, would be then dictated by the attacking forces (the ones who triggered the battle would have priority when checking on equal numbers).

Partially correct: this is only the case for the very first action. For all subsequent actions, the game considers the owner of the previous creature that acted (and "waiting" or "defending" is also an action!). The other player gets priority, when tied for equal speed.

even if this game is screwed up, is the duel option working correctly? If that works, I might buy it sooner than expected. Does it work correctly?

Duels suck. Only two heroes with fixed skills and 3 possible armies per faction.

The HoMM 3 port to the dreamcast was more exciting than Heroes 7. No denying that, personally.

Well depends from what angle you are looking, I dare you play H6 for one hour and try to not get a single crash.
I've been playing for several hours, the game doesn't run smoothly(at least on my PC), some combat animations are bad or delayed, some aren't even there, sound effects are poor, spell randomness in magic guild is horrendous, balance isn't really good(but that isn't that big of a deal compared to other stuff).
All things considered, I've still played the game for like 5 hours without a single problem, H6 was completely unplayable throughout majority of its life...
