@Kyon: Have you noticed how many of these posters got BANNED?
BH was an administrative money sucking snow as the workforce for it was deliberately used like slaves.
In this world, if you take more than one single year to develop and market any kind of game, your company is not worth the money invested to deliver anything.
Besides, a new developer called Virtuos got the job at polishing the standalone expansion of Shades of Darkness(v.2.1) and, guess what, it even works perfectly on the latest Microsoft Windows 10 Home.

What are you talking about?
There are many, many, MANY games and projects that took a lot more than a year and are one of the best the gamers have ever seen.
The Heroes franchise doesn't need a year limit for developing a new title, they have their legacy from Heroes I onwards and it grows stronger by the day.
As soon as Heroes IV was to be made and companies started using the deadline card on developers that actually cared and gave their all for the game, negative stuff started to happen to the franchise. Suddenly there were lack of graphics, lack of brain for the AI, many bugs, crucial features were missing etc.
As I see it the same thing happened to Heroes VI and the worst thing is that the developers weren't the ones that were late like in the case of Heroes IV, but the people that were deciding the story and the basic interface elements. For such projects it's absurd to explain how important and crucial are such requirements. Since the basics of the project were changed, it was plainly obvious there were going to be delays, bugs, less features etc.
I hope the new developers will know how to handle the continuation of the project and I am hoping for all the best of the franchise.
As a side note I've also seen people "defend" heroes VII on the forums, I am only hoping UBI isn't doing such things with VII or any other projects.

They went bankrupt for good reason, i.e. the job they provided wasn't up to the standard of the heroes franchise.
They mostly were the programmers (graphics/ animations were outsourced) and there were tons upon tons of bugs/ crashes/ exploits during release.
Also, Black Hole blaming Ubisoft in a letter for their own failures is quite pathetic. If they can't handle the project they shouldn't talk and instead let another small dev do it.
I will say it loudly: I'm glad Black Hole went Bankrupt. Virtuos handled the expansion really well.

@x-ecutionner
Black Hole originally planned two expansions with new factions each. Yes, some H6 features were bad, but
1) I would still like to see more factions in the game
2) According to the Black Hole post you speak about, all these bad decisions were the mistake of Ubisoft and they got bankrupted thanks to wrong contract. We can only guess now what could have happened if they had continued working on H6 but I am pretty sure the game state would have been much better & some of these bad gameplay decisions could have been fixed as well.
After this big fail, they had nobody understanding the game engine well (because it was their own one, made for H6) and it was difficult to do the improvements and fixes in it for the people who had nothing to do with it.

Actually I feel that the whole development of H7 is pointless, given the fact that the game itself is a big copy-paste of its predecessor. So why wasting a budget in a new instalment (which by the way runs worse and display inferior graphics), instead of improving what you have done already?
H6 (v.2.1.1) is not a bad game but it seems to be a sort of early abandonware: few maps, almost no support, no real mods.... And let me tell you fellowmen: this is a gigantic mess, since the game is currently sold in Steam for 30 bucks.

I do not believe BH was the right team for the job but perhaps ubi's deadline is what caused them to get stretched so thin? It is clear that polishing and balancing was an afterthought as they rushed to make the game playable and still came up wanting - while they were falling apart. Also, how many hated H6 features were their decision and not dictated by ubi? I do not deny the possibility that they were just not that good but I wouldn't count out ubi's role in their downfall. Don't be quick to condemn BH, you could have been in their place.

On the other hand I do not believe that H6 would have been saved if BH kept working on it. I have seen them at work and had discussions with them and their reasoning was pretty weird at times. Their balancing pretty terrible too, just compare the design of inferno and necro. One faction is designed to lose against the other. Same thing happened with virtuos where originally necro was dungeon's hard counter. Necro used to be immune to dungeon abilities or even benefited from them..
