What's the max zone guard size for random map in sod?
I'm trying to get a strong zone guard. If I put too big number as the zone guard value in rmg then there won't be any guards. Highest I've got is 112 azure dragons day 1, which would be ok but I've failed to reproduce that. A guard of 1000 000 only gives around 30 azures.
How was that calculated anyway? Guard value divided by AI value = guard nr? With high numbers it goes to azure and rust dragons anyway so the creature type is not a question.

There is the relation
AI value * number of creatures = Guard value
with some variation, it's not perfectly equal. Also, guard value does not need to be the same number you put in template, it changes depending on, for example, monster strength.
However, it seems that there are also constraints on how many creatures can appear as a guard.
It is very unlikely to see 'throng' of any creature week 1. Therefore the upper bound is probably a bit above 100.
It is also pretty rare to see very low numbers of creatures. The higher the level, the smaller minimum numer of creatures to appear as a guard it seems. I have never seen below 5 lvl 5 creatures as a guard, but I have 4 black dragons as a guard, and 2 crystal dragons. It suggests sort of inversly proportional relation there, but then again,I can't say it with absolute certainty, as I have not seen the code responsible for this.

Guard value depends on size of the map and difficulty settings mainly.

So if template has guard value 1000 then I will get stronger guards on a bigger map than S map?
The slightly-above-throng-guards rule seems true, the max number of azures was 112 and higher values resulted in no guards at all.
Edit: The number I was looking for is 3 000 000 for guard value. It gets 90 to 115 azures most of the time, which is ok guard.

If I may ask, what do the weak monsters guard on such map and what are they guarding?

I don't think I understand the question.

It also depends on monster strength settings. The relation between guard value and actual monster power is quite convoluted and I'm too lazy to calculate it now. Check this post.
Max rolled number of monsters can be 99, then it's randomly multiplied by 0.75 to 1.25. Don't know how original RMG handles edge cases.

What I was trying to ask was how many pikemen will guard the eventual crypt near the starting town at a map with a guard of 90+ azure dragons. I mean that the guard value is related to all monsters on the template
Also I read the link, so I guess there is some variations possible in the answer to this question based on how strong starting zone is defined to be, but I guess that it has to be weak since we can't have 100 azure dragons guarding a treadmill, can we?

Guard strength depends on treasure value. Larger zone values mean bigger treasure piles and not stronger monsters.
Monster strength also depends on monster setting per zone (in template) and per map (in RMG options).

OK so if I got this correctly, starting zones can be set as weak as normal while with a big treasure value in a hard zone there will be stronger monsters. How is monster strength value of a zone guard then?

If you mean there is possibility for treasure guards to be stronger than zone guards, how come the zone guards usually are the strongest? For example I killed road block throng of archangels, yet there are no stronger monsters guarding anything than that on either side of the areas the angels were guarding. Is that done intentionally by the mapmakers?

No I just want to get the basic idea. So template maker can pretty much customize all monsters only having to be bound by a few basic rules such as zones then
